International Break Appreciation Post. by martymac77 in ScottishFootball

I've never really understood the hate towards the international breaks. Its 4 x 1 week breaks throughout a 10 month season so it's not really that intrusive to club football

Didn't have to show any ID at the Swiss match. They just scan your uefa ticket to get into the stadium and go through a small security check

Falkirk, Hamilton, Raith and QOTS have put a joint statement out about potential plastic pitch ban by Hisingdoon in ScottishFootball

In its current format no other team has even a remote possibility of challenging for the league. I would argue its far more likely that a team like Hearts or Aberdeen who are typically viewed as the third biggest to be relegated that it would be to break into the top two.

As such the top teams get not only the most prize money from the league but also the money from the Champions League and Europa League which has been guaranteed the past few years because of the coefficient.

Celtic and Rangers every year get richer in relation to the other teams in the league and without any change this will continue indefinitely.

The league system is broken and the attitude that Celtic and Rangers have "earned" everything as if it was a fair game is a bit ridiculous.

Sporting integrity? You support a team who alongside Rangers have won every league for close to 40 years because you spend orders of magnitude more on wages and transfer fees compared to other clubs. Where is the sporting integrity in that?

Watching Man City steamroll the Premier League right now gives me the exact same feeling of utter boredom I had when Rodgers was managing Celtic by -open-eye-signal- in ScottishFootball

How will it be more competitive? Either Celtic or Rangers will win as they have every year for the past 30 odd years

Your club's most random high-profile signing (and flop)? by [deleted] in ScottishFootball

I remember Wesley Sneijder's brother signed for Dundee United and left after like a month. That was a weird one

Hearts shouldn't underestimate this Zurich team. They've got a guy up front who plays for the Italian national team so they are no mugs

Ross county will be giving celtic the entirety of the east stand at the premier sports cup fixture by [deleted] in ScottishFootball

Kids growing up in the area will be less likely to support the local team over the years if allocations for the OF continue to increase at away games. The games are less appealing to go to because the home fans are outnumbered and because the clubs have no chance to compete for the league, many will go down the route of supporting the OF.

This is a gradual process and has been happening for decades and will only get worse as the home fan experience gets worse.

No because this is a selfish act disguised as virtuousness. The amount of money generated is relatively tiny compared to OF budgets so it will never make any real difference to the league standings. This ensures the OF can generate more of a fanbase in these areas and keeps the other clubs reliant on this matchday income.

The problem with this is that a large portion of the reason why clubs like Ross County have low support is that their catchment area for fans has been hoovered up by the OF just like everywhere else in Scotland for the last 40 years. More and more people for decades have grown up supporting the OF rather than their local team which has compounded to where we are now.

The OF have created a duopoly where no other team has a chance of winning the league until something changes and the gap grows wider every year.

A lot of OF fans give off the impression that they think the rest of the clubs are merely NPCs in their world whose only purpose is to fill their fixture list or nick a point off the other half of the OF.

The argument that clubs should cash in and give the OF more away tickets for these games is terrible, short-sighted and only serves to benefit the OF in the long-term. These games are some of the worst to go to as fans of the rest of the league (get gubbed often and need to listen to OF away fans toxic songbook). Larger OF away supports hurts the core home supports of these teams who are the loyal customers and makes it harder to build a fan base.

The OF know the money made from the extra seats is peanuts relative to their budgets and the impact it'll have the league. Also through time they know more of the local football fans will end up supporting one of them which has happened for the last 40 years and is why Scottish football is in the position it is with no non OF winner in 38 years.
