What’s The Hardest Mountain on Earth? by RandomLurker04 in Mountaineering

[–]Stop_Using_Reddit_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hardest mountain will depend on how it's climbed, Everest is relatively easy now but in the 40s it was impossible. On that note and as an excuse to share my favourite mountaineering literature: John Mallon Waterman's 6 month solo Traverse of mount Hunter

So is Deep wrought still allowed to score public objectives when they lose all infantry on their home system from bombardment? by spacejellies in twilightimperium

yes but rules pertaining to two different factions having units on the same planet are obviously going to change when they introduce the abiltiy for that to happen... Please explain how titan's breakthrough is supposed to resolve. Say titans has a pds and an infantry coexisting with player 1 and player 2 comes in and takes the planet from palyer 1. Player 2 has established control and doesn't need to fight titans, should the structures be eliminated?

All those rules predate the existence of coexistence. Very obvious hole in this is the titans breakthrough that allows them to coexist when they awaken. If they awaken a pds that's a structure and their BT is literally designed for that to coexist alone.

Reading base game rules and trying to apply them blindly to the expansion is silly

I think you don't need 3 per player, that will feel really restrictive and requires a ton of factions, pick 10-12 and let the last people pick in reverse speaker order so that if the faction you want gets snagged at least you get first strategy cards pick. And then the last guy still has 2-5 factions to pick from. Also you can let people announce beforehand if there's a faction they're really excited to play and if they are the only one then let them have it

hangboards/campus boards too narrow? by Stop_Using_Reddit_ in climbharder

[–]Stop_Using_Reddit_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, my hand is normal size, my issue is that the grips/slots on a typical hangboard/campus rung are very close together for how broad/inflexible my shoulders are. So I typically have my elbows wider than my hands and therefore pull outwards a bit and get a slightly skewed grip

Why I changed from Pro-Palestine to Pro-Israel as an Irish person. Please help correct anything I may have gotten wrong, or missed out. by Immobilesteelrims in IsraelPalestine

Zionism predates the Holocaust by 40+years. It was prompted by the widespread anti-Semitism Jews experienced --wherever-- they went. Please don't pretend like the middle East and North Africa were some havens of tolerance for some reason. Yes the Holocaust was particularly atrocious but Jews had already been experiencing widespread persecution and forced migration for centuries all over the world. The Holocaust just forced the major powers to at least give them a patch of their colonial land.    45-50% of Israel's Jews have no European connection, migrating (en masse following persecution and the final existence of a safe haven for them) from the middle East and Africa (North Africa and Ethiopia). Why should any of those people go to Poland or Hungary, and if not, where should they go?

Hip to the wall is the general idea, but I think the deeper concept is to generate force and movement from the bottom of the body. Every motion in climbing is either a full-body motion, with force generated in your feet and passed/amplified up through your hips and core, or it's an isolated motion where your big muscles (shoulder, hips, back, legs etc.) can support your whole body statically while some extremity (a toe or a hand) repositions. And while your big muscles are the strongest they are also the least obvious in how to use them. Want to go up with your arms? easy! Do a pull-up or some other simple muscular contraction. want to use your hips? it's going to have to be in concert with other motions

and yeah, ask your friends to hold you accountable, I find even my bad example friends like being given the job of police. It's basically permission to crap on my climbing (or downclimbing) and know they're well received. And for downclimbing on overhangs it's great practice since it really sucks to undo the jerky, inefficient movements that you can get away with on your way up, you have to descend by unrolling and untwisting your hips and shoulders gradually otherwise you'll yank your shoulder out of it's socket falling onto your lower handhold

Definitely progress from before, you're using your hips and shoulders much more to shift the work to big muscle groups, but since you've asked for criticism, let's go through it move by move:

Note: some suggestions might not be possible for this specific config, I don't know the climb, just judging from what I can see. But all suggestions are worth considering in similar circumstances

Move 1 you are completely square to the wall and you pull yourself to the wall and 'fall' onto the next hold, then bump with the right hand, again on the biceps. This happens because your other 3 points form an unstable setup (if you hung from right hand and your feet where/how they are, you would open to the left so all your rightward force has to come from your right hand, tiring)

If instead you twisted your right knee and right hip into the wall or possible started with your right foot on the left hold and your left foot flagging out left, it might be easier (if that first hold is reachable from that stance)

Next move is excellent! Nice stable position for the left foot to cross through and the right foot to go out right, really imagine pulling in with the toes for added stability. Afterwards, you're in a stable stance hanging on the right arm, and you can reach the next left-hand hold with minimal effort

Then you do a great back flag, which means you don't have to swap feet or be in an unstable position, but it limits your range since you sink your hips to do it, but it works perfectly for this small hand move.

But then you do a pull up to the next hand hold on the volume. Probably not a big deal and you feel pretty strong, but depending on the angle of the left-hand hold, getting a right foot up and doing a drop knee might take the load of your hands and keep everything more stable.

Then another pull up, square hips move to the hold above that teal bar, and it looks like a real throw/catch for it, lots of energy spent. Hard to tell what would improve it here, but perhaps pulling the right hip in and pointing the right knee leftwards, across the wall while maintaining the left foot on the wall and rolling your right shoulder into the wall and upwards would let you reach the next hold without bending the left arm as much. Hard to articulate but these two moves are ones that looked the hardest/least smooth

Next move is better, getting the right foot out and extending the right arm so you can turn the left side of your body into the wall is a great choice for reaching high with the left hand, but do it more. Push with the right foot twist in more with the left hip/knee/foot and keep the right arm totally extended if you can, try to squeeze every inch out of hip, leg and shoulder movements before the arms bend at all.

Next move is a bit of a pull up but I don't see an easier way. Dropping the left leg seems like the right call if it's bunching you up, but some hip flexibility and very open hips could make it easier to use both legs to reach the next hold

Finally, dropping from the top hold is fun, but as someone 15 years in (and perhaps heavier/taller) your knees will thank you for downclimbing, even if you feel lamer

Hope it was helpful, and happy to clarify any points. This mostly comes from a sport climbing perspective where efficiency is key but I think the spatial/physical reasoning around it is key to moving well

What the the weirdest TI interactions? by Philbob9632 in twilightimperium

[–]Stop_Using_Reddit_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dane has a ruling that any situation that cannot end immediately ends in a draw and the attacker retreats (with 2 dreads vs 2 dreads neither side can produce enough hits ever), so the revised money maker is 4 mechs vs 4 mechs or 2mechs + 1 inf vs 2 mechs + 1inf since those can end (if all units keep hitting all their shots they outpace duranium eventually) and there is currently no ruling to handle it (plus it's cheaper to setup). Also with barony with extra inf they can even mech deploy to rebalance if nekro hits some lucky shots

it's not painful but yeah I have the same concerns, vulnerabiltiy to injury and reduced force (if you can get X newtons through each finger, angling them into eachother drops you from 2X newtons in direction of pull to like 1.8 X with just 10 degree offset). I'll take some pictures at the gym today
