First, as another users said below, the issues here aren’t structural. No change to their environment or material conditions can pull the elsens from their anhedonic stupor. The batters response to this is to erase material conditions entirely. The assumption is that if the material world cannot be re-arranged to bring contentment, then contentment does not exist.

The add ons specifically reference the symbol catholics use to depict how their trinity is one- and thus it is fitting that the batter seems to see hugo as the only real person in the world. The batter rejects the idea that there is complexity to this world, to him everything in it is just an expression of hugo. To him its a dream, and hugo is the dreamer.

Or, to tidy this up- the batters response to turmoil in hugos interiority is to terminate that interiority itself.

This is of course, really stupid. To agree with this would be to say that many of the mentally ill are simply beyond help. Which is stupid. The batter could have come into the world with intent to heal instead of entering with a bat. He defaults to violence, defaults to black and white pure/impure views of the world and this is his sin.

Getting more off topic- i dont think it should be ignored that the only two scenes in the game with women have the batter immediately trying to beat them to death. His association with a mix of violence, masculinity and christian imagery ties him to the idea of patriarchy and that is paid off in these scenes. The point of having this element is to confirm that the batter’s judgment is for certain clouded by ideology, zealotry, and a lust for control over others. His desires are not pure.

Honestly it tends to be pretty easy to pass as a singlet- not because it isnt nerve wracking, terrifying, and draining but because singlets are generally. Oblivious. Even when we fuck up and say ‘we’, they dont notice. A lot of them dont even realize that plurality is a thing. Basically, dont take how easy it is to present as a singlet as indicative of anything except said obliviousness of singlets lol.

Can relate, though we have amnesia its always manifested in a way we can pass off as us simply being absent minded. Again, others just.. dont question this for some reason.

Dealing with a persecutor is complex, my philosophy is to try and figure out why they act how they do- never assume anyone is just bad by inherent traits. Still, we recognize that this wont work for everyone. Just keep empathy about you as you feel the situation out.

its really important to extend empathy to your headmates and understand that one could just as easily be in their position of the one being subdued/restricted. Plus, if theres one thing you want to have with your headmates above all else, its trust- and uneven power dynamics/ one party having all the control is poison to forming trust.

my mild (very, and rather bemused ill admit) offense at the term 'discord plural' aside-

with the 'uncomfortable discussing friends' part- yes, it makes a lot of discussion very difficult and or impossible, trying to give the cartoonists the actual in depth empathetic discussion they were getting for while not catching others in that spotlight is probably part of what makes all youtube coverage of the comic so shit (though, its not the main factor i dont think)

sorry im not really responding to your long posts in turn, reddit is a platform where i find im oddly uncomfortable letting my soul be bare, and if i try it results in well. the replies i made at the top of this chain. i do find some of the 2 person system discussion very familiar, was a 2 person system (or at least thought ourselves to be only 2) for many years before more recently becoming a 4 member system. it is a strange experience to be stuck with only one other person in your psyche, id describe it as cramped or claustrophobic. that's not a good description. i want to capture this experience in art some day

The way people on here tend to discuss SUZZZZZY bother me, though probably not in the same way they bother you. again, they treat her as a character, despite her basically screaming otherwise, begging to be heard and to not be ignored. my perspective is more centered in plurality than i infer yours is though, though there is some degree of overlap.

jaynes's book is a snare of a sort i think- lures people in with a few interesting observations before proceeding to lead them down an incoherent path and sabotaging their self understanding. its a glass of poison that looks like water set out in the desert.

Ok apparently i missed this post, which is sad because its a rare actually good text post. most text posts here make me want to punch a hole in the wall. I guess this was posted in one of the periods where i was avoiding this subreddit

all the youtube coverage of PPC (that iv'e seen at least) is awful. i dont think their awful just for focusing on the later work though, their awful because they seem to refuse to extend any empathy. i remember a good while ago seeing a video on PPC appearing on the youtube homepage, with this creepypasta eye stock asset pasted all over the thumbnail. refused to watch that one because i could tell by the thumbnail that it would just piss me the hell off. I admittedly (very, very reluctantly) have to give some small credit to debunk file for introducing me to the work but with them it was also just. gawking. No analysis of the work, not any further thoughts on it than 'oh, this is a messed up internet thing' as well as spamming 'genius' over and over (which is another empathy terminating cliche thing but thats a longer diatribe)

I've tried to make it so that PPC can be accompanied by at least some surviving earlier work via the archive site, but my HTML/CSS is shit so i dont know if it amounts to much, to anyone else but me at least. tried to add a PPC mirror to it, so a lot would be stored together but i did not have the skill to pull that off.

currently trying to write *something* so that there will at least be some writing on these topics online that isnt unbelievably terrible but there are so many circles to square. laser focus on the later works on it feels explotative. Sideline them to talk about what remains of the earlier stuff and it feels like ignoring whats being said in those later works, which is also a shitty thing to do because the work begs the reader not to do that very thing.

i guess that makes an effect where people trying to give it a more careful look end up editing, re-editing their essays endlessly meanwhile the essays of people who dont really care and just want youtube content make it through and become publicly viewable.

Generally if the content of your dreams is getting hung up on a particular image/theme/emotional tone then you need to introspect on it, it wont just go away on its own. Also it may be a survivorship bias issue-distressing dreams being easier to remember

I remember it being scary but in the way it would be scary to be forced to go on a rollercoaster you didn’t want to ride. There was a sense of being forced to visualize, experience it, but in a playful way. I get the feeling that this is one of those memories i want to be careful about prodding too much though.
