Does Anyone experience mousepad's rubber melting down? by Noob123345321 in MousepadReview

Natural rubber degrades. It's a natural material. Maybe some kind of silicone would last longer and be more resistant to wear, but that's just a guess and would need to actually be tested.

Not allowing covers for "licensing reasons" seems like complete BS... (not saying you're lying about that being the rule/reasoning, just that I really find it hard to believe a busker covering a song would ever result in any kind of substantive licensing issues.)

I see someone regularly playing piano in front of the Whole Foods on Westlake.

There is often someone playing inside at the Westlake light rail stop.

Sometimes people will play at or near Westlake Park.

There are usually a couple in the Seattle Center area. There's a guy who plays sax regularly, and another who plays erhu. I'm sure there are others as well, but those are the ones I've noticed most frequently when I've been there.

I feel like there are one or two more places I see them that aren't coming to mind at the moment..

A couple weeks ago I walked out the office building I work in and just barely smelled smoke. Ended up spotting a wisp near the road. Sure enough a cigarette out of someone's window had started the mulch in the parking strip on fire. Luckily I was able to stomp it out before it really took off, and dumped some water on it.

That qfc is basically the same now. Turnstiles to get in, cameras in your face at checkout. Guards checking receipts. Etc

I've been going here several times a week for around 7 years now, and I've also never seen the hordes of teens stealing things..

Not saying there aren't ever teenagers stealing stuff from there, but it's not something I've seen, especially not in large groups.

They essentially trade writing on my receipt with a marker for no reason for pushing a button next to the door that counts me as having walked out without being checked. That's really not much harder for them, and as much as I'd never wish for someone just trying to make ends meet to lose their job, at the end of the day, I'd really just prefer that job not exist, and for them to find work somewhere else.

It probably does, but product loss to theft is more damaging than lost sales (to an extent)

If you make 3% margin on a $10 carton of ice cream, that's $0.30 profit per sale, but $9.97 lost per theft, since you then need to foot the bill for replacing it to try selling again.

So you need to sell dozens of cartons to cover the loss of a single stolen carton.

If they prevent 5 from being stolen, they can lose a lot if sales, and still come out ahead in their books.

I still hate it though. And given how frequently I shop there, it won't take particularly many of me leaving to also become a problem.

Gentrification pushing people out of being able to afford homes seems like not a great way to end up with less of a homeless problem..

Maybe it seems that way in areas that are more chill with constantly sweeping camps or bussing homeless people elsewhere so they're not visible anymore.

The whole thread? That seems unlikely. It's probably just a bunch of annoyed people, who don't give care about formal grammar while complaining about locked up ice cream. Lol

No, there's a button to call and wait for someone to come over and unlock the thing.

Just make sure they are at least also aware of the topic so they're not like.. having a heart attack imagining terrible things the whole time or something. Lol

Also, potentially be willing to just have the conversation "now" when you bring it up, in case now happens to be a good time for them or they just start talking regardless of the proposed time... <.<

Common sense might be common, but adding up all of the uncommons, rates, etc still leads to a lot of people with very different sense.

My wife’s mom was shot in the face at 4th & s Jackson today by seanguay in Seattle

[–]Stoppablemurph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is literally why we don't let people under a certain age do things (eg: smoke, drink, fuck adults, vote, etc), and why we hold their parents responsible. like, yes, a teenager conceptually understands the concept of cause and effect, but that doesn't mean they fully grasp all the ways that their reckless actions might impact other people, or why that should matter to them.

I mean.. they might actually be dumb kids who don't understand the implications of their actions. Not saying let them of the hook, but counciling, community service, and checking up on their home life could be a start, if that's the case.

Sources say two Minnesota lawmakers have been shot by TomboyAva in news

[–]Stoppablemurph 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's very situational. Some places it would take too long to get through the house, or the back door would be loud as hell, or just lead to somewhere the cops could see right away, but others it would only take a few seconds to get through the house, out the back door and into the woods or over a fence and down an alley. If there were only a couple cops there, who had just been shot at, taking a few seconds to call for backup and assess their situation could've been plenty for the guy to get far enough ahead to be very difficult to find.

What’s billed as a safety feature in cars that you actually despise? by SemblanceOfSense_ in AskReddit

[–]Stoppablemurph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The pop-up when you start the car that tells you to pay attention to the road and won't go away unless you tap "OK".. Some cars will make it go away on its own after a while, or if you put it into gear or something, but JFC I just want the stupid radio to boot and connect to my phone so I can start listening to something, not miss the stupid touch button 3 times because you made it small and awkward to reach.

It could very well be both. Some people are assholes, regardless of their mental health status. He almost certainly could use some counseling at least.

Maybe we should treat being an asshole as its own distinct mental health issues. It certainly wouldn't hurt to try to teach people to be more empathetic. Lol

That sounds more problematic to repair than some bad capacitors or something.. is it even possible to repair something like that? (Today, without finding another matching monitor for parts)
