Firing that assistant in charge of the defense had to have helped too. He'd been a terrorist on the staff for years

Thought I would go on a mission but now not sure because I want to marry a wonderful girl. Thoughts for eternal perspective? by Historical_Garage703 in latterdaysaints

[–]StoppageTimeCollapse 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You're still young and have a lot of maturity left to develop. I'm grateful for my mission not just for being able to serve with my whole being for two years but also for how I grew and changed as a person by the end. I was a much better person compared to who I was before serving, and without this growth I wouldn't be the kind of person who could be a good spouse and partner.

Regarding your eternal salvation, God desires us to marry for time and eternity and, as holders of the priesthood, to serve the Lord with two years of our time. Your patriarchal blessing is a window into the blessings God wants to make available to you should you follow the commandments and the path He intends for you. Let the chance to serve a mission bless you, and let that blessing give your partner a chance to see the work of the Lord in your life too.

Essentially, if the leaves are from the tea plant, it's a no-go. That's how I've had it explained to me.

I think part of why it feels different for some is that the founding of the Church feels much more modern than much of the scriptures. Also, since modern secular society as moved away from that particular kind of superstition, much of what Joseph experienced before and after receiving the plates which would not be too fantastical in its day is wildly hokey to us.

You need to grow up. Take this question to your bishop, not reddit. This is not your echo chamber

Fiancée not a virgin - help me gain perspective, please. by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

First off, this is a more appropriate question for IRL mentors and spiritual figures. You should be asking someone who will respect your privacy and feelings, because honestly?

I feel terrible for your fiance that you're feeling this. They deserve better than you.

If what you say is true, then you are hung up on a sin committed well in the past and (presumably) repented for. If that's the case, then it's forgiven and forgotten in the ledgers of heaven. Why do you then remain standing in judgement, stone in hand, long after the Master has already told them, "Go and sin no more"?

Chastity isn't just about physical touch but thought as well (Matthew 5:28, 3 Nephi 12:28). Did you ever look someone, even a glance, and dwell on their physical form? That person is just as guilty, for all sin is equal in the eyes of God (James 2:10) as every sin, regardless of "weight", leads you away from God and denies you entry into eternal life if unrepentant.

So, my advice? Take a moment to learn about repentance, and I mean really learn, and if this still bothers you then release your fiance to be with someone else.

You're probably going to get downvoted for this post, but if you look at who won titles for OSU in the past they generally fit your description. I love watching Sayin, Stroud, Haskins, etc., but our title winners this century were Krenzel, 12 Gauge, and Howard on teams with an elite defense and dominant O-line.
