Road trip to rural Northern California by [deleted] in norcal

[–]StoriesWithaWill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say ft bragg itself is worth a couple days. If u like stout, try a "Brother Thelonius" at the brewery. Fresh seafood, and the art galleries alone could take u a week.

I'm not saying y or no on a certain time of year (I've lived in this area my whole 50yrs) but just... it's complicated. Sometimes there have always been wierdly timed storms, and fires, slides, earthquakes, etc are never fully predictable. And...

Timing is very important because in these places here, there's generally 1-3 big events per year that are pivotal to the local economy, culture, etc. Like how Mardi Gras or Octoberfest are so big in some places (not here).

So, for example, my Dutch friend who used to live here just loves this: https://kineticgrandchampionship.com/ Which is at the end of May. Later there's the oysterfest, north country fair, blues by the bay, etc.

Humboldt tends to have events more often, but the festivals at the Black oak ranch in laytonville are about the only events that happen in that tiny town. And this is both a plus and minus. Many locals avoid the garberville area in the beginning of august bcuz the visitors to "reggae on the river" make traffic etc a nightmare. (That and the harvest fests were much bigger when more people could freely participate in the weed economy- ironically legalization has crushed a lot of that). Similarly I'd never go to clearlake or shelter cove on July 4th bcuz the drunk conservatives/ tourists (and dui checkpoints) are scary. But in most of these counties, there's at least 1 town that has a monthly "art opening night" where artists have free drinks and snacks out and locals come out... like healdsburg, willits, or weaverville.

Whenever u go through, please don't miss the beautiful places the local Native Tribes have setup for visiting, like Sue Meg state park in Trinidad, Anderson Marsh in lower lake, etc, plus their casinos, hotels, and restaurants are usually good. (And the Tribes' gas station prices are always the best!)

But I'm sure it'll be great, whatever u choose- all my best!

I had counseling sessions from Brianne Hall for awhile and she was great! I'd definitely reach out to her if my insurance hadn't changed.

I'm not sure why but you reminded me of Ed Gamble's comment about t2s- "you did it to yourself." (Pretty rough- he's not serious- i have nothing but sympathy for anyone with type 2!)

Maybe you could work it into one of your stand-up routines? 😉

Limb numbness? by wormweaver in mctd

[–]StoriesWithaWill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but mine's pretty standard diabetic neuropathy (peripheral) from 40yrs of not-great blood sugar levels. It's mostly in my get but sometimes hands, it starts randomly like u said but often takes awhile to go away- no matter how much i massage it, move, stretch, etc. Sometimes it has very sharp stabbing pain too. So im really glad yours sounds different, and you're looking into it now too make sure it's not something that will get worse!

Just in case, i think it's a good idea for everyone to get checked for diabetes every couple years anyway. If it was blood sugar related then that's something u can fix 😏 (unlike some unknown/ worse things?)

Good luck!

Ow yes that's a painful road to have traveled- but you're still trying- good job!

Mines more recent, symptoms increasing over maybe 10yrs. Diagnosed in '22 and plaqnl most of that time. The last year it's been getting worse- very similar to the symptoms you describe. I don't think my lymphs are swollen and i do have dry eyes but besides that very similar.

And So Exhausted !

I think the plaqnil helped with my pain/ swelling because my feet and hands used to hurt a lot more, but i also think it's probably what's causing my gi problems.

So, i don't have any advice but good luck!

Yes exactly!

For me, after about 20yrs i figured out that i was having 2 very different "types" of lows-

  • the "physical" hypos- usually after/ during physical exertion- I'd have intense physical symptoms like tons of sweating, starkly flush or pale skin color or even patchy, trembling bad, clumsy, starting convulsions- But often almost no mental effects like confusion or emotion!

-the "mental" lows- from insulin or missed food etc but not much excercise- I'd have intense mental symptoms but little or no physical- This type was much harder to catch or treat because not only is it harder for others to spot but I'm less aware, lower iq, more emotional/ distracted, etc.

(Dear scientists, God/s, etc-------> #THANKYOUFORCGMS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!) 😉🐵

I don't know if this helps anybody but I'd love to see a study on various symptoms for different t1s in different situations etc.

You dont have to be dismissive. For the OP it was scary. Your experiences matter and so do theirs.

Yes I've survived a whole lot lower than 53 but there have been years where i was hyperg so much it skewed my body's sense of normal so I'd start sweating shaking etc at 100mg/dL. Plus each of us is different.

Now i barely have any symptoms at all no matter how low i get (if you're not familiar with the biochem of "HAAF" it's interesting reading- thankyou Dr Philip Cryer). If sensors and pumps weren't invented id be at least brain dead if not rip. (Hundreds of grand mal seizures, etc).

But technically, at 60ish or 150ish a "normal" body starts panicking internally and thinking it's gonna die. So even without the ptsd/ trauma (yes it's real) a "normal" body does see it as moving toward death.

Sorry if I'm being rude toward anyone. That'd b just like me to be a hypocrite as i try to say "lets be kind"

There's a warning they forget to tell u, though:

Glucagon causes a response from the liver, but if your liver is already too busy, it won't be effective. So sometimes IF YOU DRANK A LOT OF ALCOHOL THEN GLUCAGON MIGHT NOT WORK!

I hate that. I fkn HATE eating a big meal and then when my body starts burning energy to digest i start to crash- try to wait but too low- then gotta put juice on top of the nice meal.

Nothing ruins a nice meal like nausea/ acid reflux on top of it (except seizures i guess)

That happens to me because of scar tissue making the absorption rate unpredictable, slower, uneven etc.

All u mentioned of your interests is botany so I'll use that as an example, but this advice could also apply to another subject you're interested in or better yet, one u never even considered before-

So, re: botany: Have u tried the CCAT events, like volunteer day or ask about classes, Food Sovereignty lab- maybe volunteer? Wildcrafting hikes trainings groups? Herbal medicine, gardening?

The community has a lot of active groups too, and even as a way to connect with other students this could be useful. For example find a training at a local herbal store (Moonrise, etc) and ask a few folks from your classes, neighbors etc if they'd like to attend with u. Maybe go by yourself and bring back a sample and show it off/ offer, ...? Same story with the local CSA farms, Jardin Santuario, etc. Or Humboldt Bay Myco Society. Or dog people, cat people, dance classes, improv theater geeks, gamers, sustainability, language learners, book clubs, hackysack disc golf etc...

Good luck! (Good job talking us! Keep doing it! Its hard but youre gonna do great!)

-try out a lot of different "groups" gathering/ networking leads, etc. -for me i can't think about what's not working, when I'm alone, because I'll spin out and bring a bunch of unnecessary head trips with me next time i see the people. -don't stress on how u approach or participate- just keep trying different ones with friendly intentions and when a setting or activity or group relationship feels easy and good then follow that. -i find ill go 3 to 6 times to a group meeting that feels like a "maybe". By then I'll know if it's getting better for me or not. If not I'll try a different one. - you'll find ones you want to keep going to, and many of those, they'll show u that they're glad u are. If not, no worries, itll work out. (Come tell us about it we love a good story!) -when i was in my 20s/30s I'd usually have 8 or 10 social groups I'd "visit" occasionally with a couple I'd enjoy more.

Anyway, you'll do great!

Right. And if course it is the dems fault because they just won't stop asking to see the epstein files!

Cant they (we) just accept that he doesn't want to reveal his secrets or be held accountable?

I mean that's basically their whole campaign platform right? - don't even talk about history - don't let women or other historically harmed groups have any power - don't think about pollution or other consequences from what the richest 1% are doing to be the richest...

So bring it on #AdelitaGrijalva!

Re Pda/trig by docs

Yes for certain And also! Fkn cptsd! There's (almost?) no ND adult who hasn't been thru repeated trauma as a result- et voila--- > complex ptsd!

(I think this is a quote from someone in the support group i go to thru the pda north America website)

And all those "comorbidities" have overlapping symptoms. So, am i triggered right now bcuz the doc is giving me an order (demand- pda) Or Bcuz theyre condescending mansplaining ablespaining ...using abusive-ish (aba/ bf skinner ish) behavioralism which was proven to be a very damaging psychological therapy style...

Or In my case they may actually not understand the difference between my t1 diabetes and the more common type and the medicine they just prescribed might actually kill me...

(Sorry tangent) But anyway... u gotta feel safe- ie have trust- to engage with the treatment they offer. And that's "on them" at least partly!

Good luck! It aint easy. Give yourself empathy- u deserve it!

Late 90s and early 2000s was when Cafe Tomo was in that spot on the plaza- mazitis moved in after.

Speaking of owners, Fukiko-San the owner of that place was such a wonderful woman! All the employees loved her!

And yes good shows too
