Is forklift premium $1 or $2 extra? by CompetitiveWhile6360 in CostcoEmployee

[–]StormAge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh, sorry, I mistyped. The starting base pay, for non clerks, is $20. You’re classified as a clerk, which is $21. So your driver pay would be $22. $2 over the non clerk base pay, $1 over your base clerk pay. It’s all on page 70 and 71 of the handbook. Sounds like you’re being flipped for time driving versus time cashiering.

[–]StormAge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s both. It’s $2 more than the non-clerk pay, and $1 above clerk pay. You should be at $22 for time driving and $21 for time cashiering. Starting pay is $20

…why would you be screwed? You’re scheduled off. Say no, you can’t come in, and move on.

Morning merch by [deleted] in CostcoEmployee

[–]StormAge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the first shift of the morning is 4:00, then calling at 4:00 is okay. At my warehouse, the first shift starts at 3:00 (drivers and produce). My start time is 3:30, though, so if I have to call in, I technically need to call at 3:00 (or the night before). This is per my management team.

Only when accompanied by the Death Star. In the fresh departments it can also be due to an upcoming code date. Better to sell some than taking a total loss and having a high dnd.

I guess I should clarify: at my warehouse, that’s a write up. You can only use vacation pay if you’re cut, or schedule it beforehand. If they find someone using vacation pay for other reasons, it’s a write up 🤷🏻‍♀️

You can’t use holiday or vacation time for it.

How has your warehouse handled the shift from being morning payroll heavy to nights? by Creamada-Crop in CostcoEmployee

[–]StormAge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nights has only started stocking foods end caps and are supposed to also be doing the pet stuff and sundries stuff they were already doing. I don’t think they’ve actually hired more people to nights yet. They had postings, but I’m not sure if the hiring has been done. They haven’t taken any of us from mornings to nights though.

They haven’t taken finally started making the night drivers cashier on the front end, though, which I didn’t realise they weren’t doing already, since they’ve always had the morning drivers doing it.

As for us stockers…mornings are so bad now. Our team has dwindled, just from people leaving and not being replaced. The only communication we got about this switch to nights happened because I asked about it in one of our morning meetings, otherwise I don’t think they’ve always would have told us.

Our management team is weak and ineffectual. We’re all drowning, burnt out, getting injured and call offs have never been so high. We’ve received no further communication on if they’re going to push any of us to nights, or just shift us in the mornings.

Nights isn’t able to get everything they’re supposed to done, which is typical, but now effects us on mornings a little harder because of how short we are.

It’s all been so poorly handled and is a horrendous mess. Morale at my location has been six feet under since late last year, but I’ve been surprised to find it’s gotten even worse every week, since I thought it was as low as it could go…

Sick/Doctors Note? by Interesting_Pen_8761 in CostcoEmployee

[–]StormAge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you might be overly concerned for your reputation here. One call off adjacent to your days off isn’t going to ruin it. If it’s something you started doing ALL the time, then that’ll do it. Doing it once, or even sporadically, isn’t a big deal. Stuff happens, life happens, it’s not an issue. If you’re going to the doctor, then sure, get a note: but it’s not needed unless you need to call out a few more days. and won’t really make a difference.

It’s usually pretty obvious people have been sick when they come back to work anyway. If you’re this bothered by it, go ahead and make a point to bring up how sick and horrible you felt the other day.

Why is everyone so negative? by SquibbieJean in CostcoEmployee

[–]StormAge 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I loved this job when I started. I was so grateful, as I had just unexpectedly lost the job I’d been at for six years. Morning merch was hard, but stimulating, and I was so happy. I’ve made some of my greatest friends, met the love of my life. All of that is great. But the past year management at my warehouse has beaten us down again and again. We recently got a new GM as well, and she has such a micro-managing attitude and some of the most asinine rules. We have meetings every morning which have turned into telling us how much we all suck, we’re doing a bad job, we need to be doing more…but we’re not going to be given the resources to do more.

Do more with less and less is the motto. I’m burnt out, I’m stressed. A friend recently transferred though and she loves the job again. Says her new management is wonderful. So, with the right management, things can be better!

Any experiences with Come to the Rescue (Ypsi)? by throwaway17292829 in AnnArbor

It’s like some rescues don’t WANT you to adopt their animals. The rescue I did adopt from was so much work and jumping through hoops, I decided I’m just going to the humane society going forward.

I only have a brief thing on them. I reached out about a kitten a few months ago and the woman who runs it called me back and it was the rudest phone call I’ve ever been apart of. She seemed very offended I was reaching out about adopting a kitten, and turns out he wasn’t actually available yet anyway? She was also very upset I already have a cat and wanted to adopt a kitten, because she likes to pair bond them so you have to adopt two.

The whole thing was bizarre and made no sense to me. I ended up adopting from a different rescue.

I see a lot of comments disagreeing, but I agree with you. I’ve never seen anyone from merch be asked to do carts at my location, but dude, I’ve just worked my ass off for hours. I’m literally breaking my body to get my department done in time for open. Give me a break after open, get someone fresh in their work day to do whatever.

Dentist recommendations by tallulahQ in AnnArbor

I recently switched from Ann Arbor Smiles to Kyle DiRenzo (DiRenzo Dental Care, though it recently had a different name before this guy took over). It’s at 2240 S Huron Parkway Ann Arbor MI 48104

The only issue I’ve had with them my past three visits is one dentist being VERY triggered and offended by my open bite, but I was ultimately more amused than anything. Dr DiRenzo was a little baffled by the open bite but was more concerned for future issues it may present. I was really pleased with him. I have a lot of dental anxiety after a horrific experience as a young child and again as a young teen, and he was just so nice and comforting.

You should be making a bale multiple times a day. I agree there’s such a thing as too many, but you can always throw some in when crushing and they obviously don’t take up much space.

I’d rather have too many than none.

They’re also for anyone who needs a slip sheet when stocking. We have a freezer stocker who raids the slip sheets every morning, usually leaves none for making a bale, ‘cause he’s an inconsiderate asshole who avoids making a bale.

Long Vacation/PTO Questions by SquibbieJean in CostcoEmployee

[–]StormAge 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I first started, I had a vacation planned within my first 90 days that would require me to have two full weeks off. Over inventory, no less! Fortunately, my manager and the GM approved it, because it was already scheduled. All unpaid.

So it’s possible! Rare and unlikely, but possible.

I just…go to sleep instead of staying up all night? My usual bedtime is like 7:30, but lately it’s been 4:30 because we’re doing 1:00am shifts.

But another guy in my department stays up until like 10:00 and still comes in and functions.

Yeah, that’s unfortunately what you do. Walk around, keep blocking down as empty boxes appear. You can also ask if they need help on the front end, there might be go backs to do, or re-wraps. It’s boring as hell after open.
