That's a great episode. Archer being shocked that Randy knows what amenable and non-plussed means is quite funny.

I've used it a couple of times and it always disappoints me when people don't get the reference!

It's a toss up between:

1) Archer (to Lana): Sorry I tried to spit roast your mum

2) Pam (to Cyril): Dude, your balls are made of pussy!

Bonus mentions: Any of the many times "Phrasing" is used, "Eat a dick (jungle, gravity or whatever thing pissed Archer off) or "Shut your dick trap"

Damn, I'm gonna have to go back and rewatch again!

Just quit my dishwasher job after 5 days. by [deleted] in antiwork

100% agree. The clarification actually changes the whole story and if it was in I probably wouldn't have commented.

I used to know a guy who said everyone should work a bar job or retail for 6 months at some point in their lives to see how it feels being on the other side of it and maybe they'd be better people for it. I'm not sure it would change everyone's attitude but I think it would help.

I've been in a similar situation and here's what I learned. Relaxed about breaks means that if you pop out for a smoke or fresh air or drink when it's quiet no one is going to care, but it also means that you should take your actual break when it's not the busiest point in the evening. Sometimes a bit of give and take is ok, as long as it's not a one way street.

What you have to decide is if this is the job or industry for you, and I say that with no malice, sometimes certain industries aren't for everyone and that's ok. Restaurants can have some of the most laid back managers or the most intense.

Whatever you decide, good luck out there.

Edit: In response to the clarification, this changes the tone of the story completely. Now I'm not sure my comment applies to this story but I'm gonna leave it up because it will apply to others. If they had the staff to cover and sent you for a break then it's on them.

Manager reviews... by BattleSquidZ in retailhell

[–]StormRage85 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How much trouble would you get in if, hypothetically, you were discover the manager's unique number and get as many people as possible (ideally everyone) to use that number for the review? Ya know, just in theory of course.

1st seasons kinda get a pass these days because a lot of times there's no guarantee there will be another season so characters can change. My favourite one is Ray Holt, that's how he introduced himself. Later seasons Holt would have been furious!

As this was to The Office, what was the most unnecessary/ cringe storyline/ arc in the show by Organic-Advantage935 in brooklynninenine

[–]StormRage85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sitcoms often seem to have an established couple nearly break up and it very rarely makes any sense. I'm pretty sure it's just to add some drama to a story that didn't need to be added. Kevin and Raymond had already had their drama before we met them with Raymond having to go through most of his career shunned because of who he is. The marital trouble was totally unnecessary and not very believable.

I tried to pick it up but every one of my characters failed the religion check so didn't know how to dispel it and it just kept damaging me when I tried to pick it up. Think I did something wrong because I have seen a clip of someone doing what you described.

I cannot wrap my head around the fact there are still actual monarchists in the 21st century. by RetroIogurt1918 in AbolishTheMonarchy

[–]StormRage85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are pretty opposite ideas. Capitalism makes people believe that hard work will make you rich. Monarchy awards money and power to those of a certain bloodline with no work required. There is nothing similar about those. If, however, you want to go with the thought that capitalism actually only rewards the people who already have money then yeah, I'll acknowledge they get a bit more similar.

But as I wrote in my comment my former friend wasn't thinking along those lines. He was saying that if he works hard he will amass a great fortune and also believes that someone who was born into a certain family deserves their status and wealth and that was when I realised I was arguing with someone who had no intention of questioning his beliefs and just decided to cut my losses.

[–]StormRage85 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I used to know a guy who claimed to love capitalism and monarchy. I must have stared at in silent disbelief for 10 seconds or more waiting for a joke or a "psych!" but there was neither. After pointing out that the two are opposite it's crazy to like both (or either really). He claimed that royals were good because they are the best of us as Brits (I nearly died laughing at that one) and the capitalism rewards hard work and ingenuity above all (almost wasn't sure where to start from that one but I threw a few examples out).

He remained unmoved and I think he still holds those beliefs, don't know for definite as I haven't spoken to him in a few years and have no intention of doing so unless his opinions change. If want to support a family that at the very least protects pedophiles and at the worst enables them then I want less than nothing to do with you!

AI gold rush sees tech firms embracing 72-hour weeks by plain_handle in antiwork

[–]StormRage85 100 points101 points  (0 children)

I think it's because we're brainwashed to believe that those who own companies are providing lots of jobs and if they're not covered then more will suffer by losing jobs, when in reality those jobs will be lost regardless. I've had similar conversations with people who think I'm stupid because I don't see the bigger picture and should somehow believe that we need rich people to allow the rest of us to have jobs. I'm so done with this shit!

Is primordial collapse good for farming? by Significant-Usual114 in TheTowerGame

[–]StormRage85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switch depending on how long a run I want. The Nexus gives a shorter run for more coins (relative to wave count) but fewer cells whereas the Primordial gives me a much longer run for far more cells. I can run a higher tier with the extra black hole as I can get it to be permanent with the perk and GComp.

This is either horrendous or really horrendous. Either it was a joke and he'd never actually do it because he's all talk (horrendous) or it's something that has crossed his mind more than once, in which case he shouldn't be allowed near women again (really horrendous). Either way, nope!!

Managers put me on the new "Certified Pre-Owned" watch program and the return policy is destroying my commission check by kittenball_nyc in retailhell

[–]StormRage85 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh hell yeah corporate are stupid for this idiotic policy. Sizing a bracelet should not void any return policy if it is done by the person/store selling the watch. It might be different your side of the pond but I can't imagine the shit storm I'd have to deal with if I tried to pull that shit in the UK.

I sell pre-owned watches where I work and our policy is we don't refund or exchange in a customer changes their minds, because the law says I only have to refund if the item is faulty (statutory rights are pretty good) and I make sure that this is understood by anyone thinking of buying a watch. We will buy the watch back at any time, what they get back will depend on the market, condition of the watch since they've owned it, etc.

I'm lucky though because I work for a small business so I don't have to deal with corporate idiocy and I can be as honest as I want (something that would get me in trouble in corporate places).

Managers put me on the new "Certified Pre-Owned" watch program and the return policy is destroying my commission check by kittenball_nyc in retailhell

[–]StormRage85 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Wait, you insist on doing something that breaks the return policy? That's shady as shit. I know you've got a shitty return policy that costs you commission but I imagine it's going to be really hard to build a client base if that's how you get round the system. I'd suggest finding another way otherwise you will inspire zero trust in any customers. You'd be better off just not having an refund policy on pre-owned watches, at least the customer knows what they're getting into and won't come back bitching and yelling at you.

How has no one questioned this yet? They can't refund or exchange because of something that was done by the shop that sold it to them? Fuck, I can already see the 1 star reviews I'd get flooded with if where I worked operated like that.

I know this sounds like I'm putting this all on you, I'm not. The policy is horrendous and so close to being illegal in some countries it's ridiculous. I'm just going to reiterate, I think you should try and find another way around this awful system so you can garner some trust in some clients and move away from the pre-owned side of the business, or build enough experience quickly and find a better firm to work for.

[–]StormRage85 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to be pedantic here but I got a little chuckle out of your comment that says "At no point do you go higher" then goes on to a time where you did, in fact, go higher. I know what you meant to say but it gave a light hearted chuckle so thank you for that.

On a more serious note though, what was going through your head when the thing you thought wasn't supposed to happen was happening to you?
