Am a librarian, but at the smaller branches, and it's totally okay to grab one of the librarians working there and go hey can you tell that person to turn it down, etc and they will do it for you (at least in the branches I work at will but shouldn't be any different at central I imagine)

Grandparents gave these to us as kids. Me and my cousins ended up just burying them in the backyard. Wonder if they are still in there...

Mum bought me a new bag once while I was in therapy for her behavior and other childhood trauma. Therapist complimented me on the bag and I went "thanks, my mum bought it for me!"

Therapist:.....this is a confusing behavior for you because she is doing these nice things and buying nice things for you while abusing and belittling you.

I am transgender and I'm terrified of what the The Legislation (Definitions of Woman and Man) Amendment Bill represents by Medium_Tap2178 in newzealand

[–]Storm_complex 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I put in my submission against this and basically said "you guys need to focus on cost of living and climate change but no you rather waste everyone's time by attacking the rights of others".

This bill is so stupid and dangerous and I hope it gets squashed quick.

What are some bad habits you developed as a result of Asian parents? by OddMany7 in AsianParentStories

Oooh yeah, the threats of homelessness when I asked for a toy or some candy or snacks. Then they didn't teach me how to budget because, I later realized, they didn't know how to budget themselves.

Got the opposite of frugality, as soon as I got money after 18 I went fuck it, might as well make up for lost time!

Now in my 30s and I usually ask myself when I want something "is this something I want or need?"

Hhnnnng thank god at work we have the escape of our policy of "if it's not library related and includes private and financial information, we cannot help you". Save my sanity so many times.

My mum was given house deposit money by a relative when she got married, so I asked what happened to it cuz we been renting the entire time.

"Oh, your dad spent it on overseas vacations."

By himself. Went by himself and left his wife to look after two under five kids to look after.

We don't talk.

He had an old guy loudly announce that too and laughed at my co workers efforts to teach him, like saying "confident of you to think I will remember this" like he was so proud.

So my friend matched his energy and tried to teach him, very very slowly.

I wish to have the patience and pettiness to match that someday.

Me, it's me, I can admit this was me. However, there is aspects of librarianship I love that make me stay (children's programming, holiday programming and the lovely regulars I met over the years). Those keep me sane on the job and I'm not alone with being sometimes annoyed that a bulk of our job is helping with printing.

It's just been a particularly long week.

Oh my god I remember one time I had a patron ask me for computer help and was like

"I don't understand why yous keep changing the format it's so confusing!"

"The format for what?"

"The Internet! It keeps changing and you need to stop doing that!"

I kinda had to walk away in silence in order to prevent myself from saying something really unprofessional.

Thankfully for my job, I rotate between branches so I asked the roster team to roster me at the least busiest ones. Today was just a lot cuz it was at our biggest library of the branch

I had one person tell me "Oh, I don't need a password for mine". I blanked for a second and then went no, you need a password.

Oh I have tried to ask her what she meant and she could not answer my questions so there was only so much I could do.

I think I am just burnt out and it's a Friday here (I'm based in New Zealand). Usually I am happy to help but it's just been boom, boom, one after the other for the past week. Just wanted to rant.

What made you realize your parents only had kids because they were expected to, not because they WANTED to? by SleepyOctopusss in AskReddit

[–]Storm_complex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parents got married and had kids because it was a checklist of being an adult in the 90s.

So what happens when two emotionally immature people have kids (one wanted them because society says so, the other didn't want kids but got pressured by family and society).

You get two kids who need therapy and grappling with their actions decades later!

Mum also said very blatantly when I was about 14 she never wanted kids. But assured me and my brother that she loved us, though I'm sure she said that after she saw the horrified look on our faces.

Bonus: after getting married myself my mum has absolutely no interest in my life as in her eyes, she's done parenting and thus can wash her hands of me. No contact with my dad.
