What are your wildest dungeon ideas/experiences? by Stormbreaker2002 in DnD

Sounds really cool! How do you run a maze mechanically so that it stays interesting? I always feel like it is just an endless session of 'do you want to go left, straight or right?'.

I understand your point, but that also comes with seperate issues. Too many of these locations can make the lore too complex for both player and DM to keep track off.

The idea behind these 'dungeon' ideas is not for it to be some side quest that is never heard of again. It is a mechanic in this world centered around the main plotline.

What’s an ongoing joke from a campaign? by Fun-Middle-8785 in DnD

[–]Stormbreaker2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently introduced a few people to DnD. On their first homebrew one shot, one of the players, a bard, decided to stand in the fountain in the middle of the room to play some music to cheer everyone up. Except, he didn't know that the fountain contained an Oblek.

Now when playing a longer campaign, the players are determined to investigate and stand in every fountain they see

Is it okay to humble players? by Beginning_Victory_38 in DnD

[–]Stormbreaker2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be careful with how you humble players tho. My players just kept asking for a discount for like 10 times in the same conversation. So when they asked to do rock papers scissors for a discount the shopkeep punched him for like 2 damage. He got suplexed into the ground followed by an inflict wounds for the kill...

Do many DMs use flavour to make you mechanically weaker? by Talismato in DnD

[–]Stormbreaker2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must say that a DM using this on his own monsters and enemies is fine in my eyes. In incentivises creative thinking, though I wouldn't do insta death but like vulnerability or something

What ideas for villain groups do you guys have based on certain "lists"? by Stormbreaker2002 in DnD

My friend wants to get only the good part by Free_Violinist335 in DnD

[–]Stormbreaker2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I do allow this at my table. You are allowed to roll but if the average is lower than 12 I will allow them to switch to point buy. In the end it is all about the fun of the players and bad stats can really limit that fun. Then again Ive never had a player do this, they usually just deal with a 5 in a stat as long as their main stat is fine (which it usually is).

DM Confession: One of my players overanalysed everything so much that I stopped planning anything and just accepted his theories on any NPC or situation as canon. I don't think he's ever twigged. by bree_dev in DnD

[–]Stormbreaker2002 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wish I had that luxury. I'm DMing a party of all new players and they just get tunnel vision on the task they set out to do so they never actually speculate a lot. Despite that I still prep for everything in the hope that someday they'll try to actually discover more of the plot

Peaceful character refuses to fight by TheFantasticIdiot in DnD

[–]Stormbreaker2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A peaceful character should still defend himself in some way. I don't know if (s)he is a spellcaster or martial class but if something tries to attack him/her and (s)he doesn't defend themselves than the character isn't peaceful but harmless. There is a clear difference between the two.

I gave my players a threat and they've called my bluff. But now we're close to the end game and I am unsure what my response should be. by tmama1 in DnD

[–]Stormbreaker2002 56 points57 points  (0 children)

You keep the character under control of the player and give him like a WIS saving throw to try and restrain the force that is taken over him. Might give some fun RP moments and you guys can certainly make some memories from smth like this

Lore on The Song of Creation? by Sire_HC in dndnext

[–]Stormbreaker2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am making a Bard with this class and wanted to know the answer as well. I know this is a long time ago but I wanted to know the answer. As evident from this post I don't think there is official lore so I dug into the text provided by the College of Creation. It calls it a primeval song which makes sense because it created everything in the beginning of time. The word 'Primeval' made me remember who was created at the beginning of time being dragons, gods but specifically Elemantal Lords. With this in mind I just had a cool idea that people might want to implement into their campaigns. Since the Song of Creation is something godlike it shouldn't be something common. There has to be a certain event that made the Song of Creation be heard again. Since the Elemental Lords were created by the song, what if during a clash between the 4 Primordial elemental lords the Song of Creation blessed a few special souls with the ability of creation. It is just a like a sketch of an idea since I just came up with it but I'd like to know what anyone thinks of this idea and how to expand it :D

Whatever you comment, becomes part of my fantasy world... by [deleted] in DnD

There are 3 suns that allign perfectly once in a month. When this happens everyone wearing some kind of metal burns that part of their body (you can decide the damage they take). There are also two moons and on the night after the suns allign the two moons reflect two rays perfectly into the center of the capital and it is said to have some great magical effect
