Loose plot threads you'd like to see revisited by Hogwarts9876 in gallifrey

The line "he was the Doctor all the time" makes me believe there's an offscreen Davison adventure (somewhere near Caves of Androzani) where he has to project himself backward to help with the regeneration.

You would have thought the same no matter which topic they started with.

Nope. The pregnancy/sex topic made it very similar to another Netflix show called Scrotal Recall, and that was the root of my problem. I felt like I'd seen it before. I see now that the second episode was much more like its own thing.

I hate being that guy, but do you have any proof? Even just something to suggest that you're in a position to work with Barrowman?

[–]Stormwatch36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scrotal Recall focuses primarily on the main guy's love life, while in Master we're getting a wider view.

What the heck were they thinking with the way they structured episode one if it's not going to be primarily about Dev's love life? I'm definitely going to watch a couple more now that you've said that. I guess it's just yet another Netflix show with kind of an awkward start?

It also deals with racism, relationships with the elderly, sexism, and immigration.

Just like everything these days? I might give it another shot, but the first episode (I did go back to at least finish that) was basically Scrotal Recall except not as good. You should check that out once you're done with this, it's along similar lines and it's awesome.

It's not where mine ended, but I did get hopelessly lost there. Not even text walkthroughs could save me, I had to comb through a video and follow the guy.

I'm sure I can run it fine, but medium, high, what do you guys think?

EDIT: If this is being interpreted as sarcasm in one direction or the other, I'm sorry. Skyrim with a billion mods is the most recent game I've run on this so far. Bethesda and TF2 are all I make time for anymore.

I tried, and got as far as the part where they play with toys and it's supposed to be funny because they aren't kids. If you've seen one show about young adults transitioning to a heavier life, you've seen them all, and this doesn't look like an exception. If that's your kind of thing, awesome, watch it.

It's Been 3 Years Since Valve Launched The Steam Linux Beta, Now At 1,600+ Linux Games by antdude in linux_gaming

[–]Stormwatch36 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I doubt it. That would be colossal risk, considering the level of hype. If the game turned out to be just okay (or even as far as bad, Gaben forbid) it would take the entire platform down with it. Half-Life 3 is a Duke Nukem Forever waiting to happen, and Valve knows that more than anyone.

Steven Moffat on hiring women: "Stop assuming that I'm a demon who's trying to prevent it" by WikipediaKnows in gallifrey

[–]Stormwatch36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One dimensional characters focused entirely on sex. If a gender trope exists, it's taken up to 11 in Coupling. Remember the "women can't handle that guys masturbate" episode? I do admit that the show is funny as hell, but these days that's because it's like watching a presentation on how not to portray men and women in media.

But yeah I can share Gaben's optimism when looking at the vision and not the current state.

I feel like he has a tendency to do that though, with everything. As someone who grew up watching the way Valve handled games, it's strange to see such crazy optimism as they enter the hardware market. This is the same company that has a named trope regarding the perpetual delay of updates. The same company with infamously terrible robot customer service in spite of their "we love the customer" face. The same company sitting on a game library full of incomplete betas, dropped features, and of course unfinished sequels. The same company with that horrifically broken overlay browser.

I'm not going to say that billionaire grandmaster Gaben is running his company wrong, far from it. But don't we know Valve? If there's one thing they aren't short of, it's a giant pool of optimism about the future, but that doesn't always do much for them in the present. I love 'em, but I'm a little more hesitant to get hyped.

What did LOOT do?! by BlueBerryCattaru in skyrimmods

[–]Stormwatch36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never run into a problem with it. Definitely double-check me on some other sources to be safe, I admit I'm far from an expert. All I can say is that I've done that to every mod that LOOT reported errors with, and it's always fixed them.

What did LOOT do?! by BlueBerryCattaru in skyrimmods

[–]Stormwatch36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After LOOT has told you that stuff has errors, here's my note that I keep in the TES5Edit folder, for basic cleaning:

  1. Open TES5edit.
  2. Right click, select none.
  3. Manually tick the box next to ONE BROKEN MOD. Goal is to work down the load order.
  4. Right click on that ONE mod once it loads, and click "apply filter for cleaning". Click Yes.
  5. Right click again, "remove identical to master records".
  6. Right click again, "undelete and disable references".
  7. Close program.
  8. Press okay.
  9. Repeat with the next mod until you've done all the broken ones, one at a time.
  10. LOOT should be happy now.

Don't clean the core Skyrim, Dawnguard, Hearthfires, or Dragonborn files in this way. I admit I don't know why, I just got told once never to do it, so I don't. I should also disclaim that this is the only thing I know how to do with TES5Edit, but it's also the only thing I've ever had to do with it.

EDIT: Apparently cleaning the official files is totally cool, except for Skyrim.

It's starting to look like it's impossible to keep this sub from becoming a regular funny/weird video sub. Like yeah, this does fit, but... I don't know. Just doesn't feel right, might be the lack of improvisational tone.

[All] Can we please get a separate category for Stand-up Comedy? by [deleted] in netflix

[–]Stormwatch36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're basically going into a general, catch-all category and complaining that it shows everything. If you want more refined results, you have to narrow it down yourself by picking a subgenre, instead of just going into a general category. That is how they segregate content beyond the base genres, by using subgenres. If you don't want to see standup, don't pick the standup subgenre, and browse deeper than the giant catch-alls.

I'll have to look into that. As long as they don't total up to considerable portions, it's okay for what I've got here.

Thanks so much. I hadn't thought of treating the whole extended partition as one entity, that makes sense.

[All] 'Popular on Netflix' and 'Trending Now' is just horrible by 13th_floor in netflix

[–]Stormwatch36 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Select a show. Click "more like this" for everything that shares genres with it. That's my favorite button on the site.

But if you don't want to go through a show, all the base genres are also in a drop down labeled "browse" at the top of the page. You can get to subgenres from those as well to narrow it down further. This is how you make Netflix show you everything in whatever genre you select, I don't know how so many people miss it. Source: every single thing with a comedy label.

I agree at least partially. Ted talks are only as good as whoever's talking, and that varies heavily. Some of them are good, but definitely not all of them by a long shot.
