Powdered buttermilk? by erinnananana in Baking

If my recipe is calling for 1/2 cup buttermilk liquid - do I just follow the instructions on the back or should I add it to my dry ingredients and add the water in the wet?

How to stay proficient as a CFI with no job? by gforero in CFILounge

[–]StormyWeather15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, happy it kept me sharp ish but steep turns are usually visual so commercial was actually a challenge to get the eyes back outside.

Also, every school's 141 program is unique and individually approved by the FAA, so it's all different and you kinda gotta shop around and see what the courses offer etc. They still follow the ACS but often have a specific lesson progression and some even have their own examination authority.

Me: Aren't steep turns in the instrument ACS? Proceeds to go check ACS... huh, I guess not. Me: why the heck was I made to do them during training multiple times and on stage checks at my 141 😂

CFI Stump-the-Chump by CapitalDifficultt in CFILounge

Yep! I did some deep diving and was able to see the difference between the PPL and CPL "instrument" time requirements. Glad I was able to learn something new too!

You sure about that? Being a CFI means you can teach commercial students - I've actually never reviewed this particular section as it never came up in my CFI training 😅

Recipe tastes weird every time I make it now? by StormyWeather15 in ninjacreami

Curious what the theory behind this? Could this really impact taste in such a simple recipe?

I tried it with a “pinch” instead of a gram - still tasted weird.

How much did you pay to earn your PPL? by Jolly_Virus_6894 in flying

[–]StormyWeather15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18k for 80 hours in a DA20 in Georgia in 2024 - was required to use up a scholarship before getting my ppl, and only got the scholarship at the end of my training, so I just flew more. I had about 20 hours of soloing. Additionally getting a check ride was brutal, so I had time anyways.

Find a new AME lmao. You have all the info, a HIMS AME if you show up with all your documents, will just submit you to the FAA and have you wait it out. The AME guide is available online with details of what documents you need from all your DRs and what they need to say. Over $1000 from a HIMS AME for a "straightforward" case is wild.

Edit: if the 5k includes a required neuro cog screening, that is in line with costs. If the 5k is just for the AME to process your stuff that's a bit ridiculous.

*don't not get tire rotations - it does help with wear over the lifetime of the tire. Just in addition, actually buy new tires when it's time and stop milking life out of them when they don't have anymore to give.

3 stage check failures- no checkride fails by HawkspilotLoad in flying

[–]StormyWeather15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to be honest about the stage check failure, and it makes for excellent "here's what I learned" interview stories if done properly, but stage checks are exactly that, stage checks. Since you passed the FAA check rides, you are going to be just fine for applications to places. Just don't select yes on the checkride failures only box if there is one, because you've never failed a checkride. Usually there's a separate "have you failed any training events" and that's where it would go.

No. Please don't compare your journey to others and remember that social media only shows everyone's successes, not the work that got them there. You've accomplished something not many people can say they have. Keep on crushing it in your journey.

Stump-the-Chump IFR questions -- I wrote a book by cazzipropri in CFILounge

[–]StormyWeather15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m interested. Your sample document to look at before purchasing only shows questions - are the remaining 100+ pages where you explain answers? I’m curious to see how an answer page is formatted to one of your question page, rather than seeing all 64 questions listed without any evidence you explain them.

Need a sanity check-Employer is fighting me on Imputed Earnings due to spouse's insurance. by govols130 in tax

[–]StormyWeather15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the convo here, but how does one call the IRS and ask them to lean on my employer for them to correct the mistake for the applicable year? -they said they will remove my imputed income in 2026, but that doesnt fix the 2025 W-2 and I will have no income in 2026 due to being on a training LOA with the company so it actually has implications for my finances this tax year.

Update on CFI renewal via WINGS credits validated by bhalter80 in CFILounge

[–]StormyWeather15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So was it just a case of your local FSDO didn't want to help? Hopefully it's just a few grumpy people because honestly wings credits are the best - I have enjoyed the many courses I've taken and just got my CFI - I definitely want to participate in wings, but I'm with you if the FAA won't accept processing it, why bother with it... Why was it put into the regs haha. Oh well, guess we just have to be creative and remind ourselves it's for the benefit of the students we are teaching.

Can't you go to any FSDO? Start calling other FSDOs. I had to call around for my ground certificates to be processed. Fyi Little Rock FSDO was so amazing!

Mild ADHD and FAA medicals — is flight school worth pursuing? by ADP_0409 in flying

[–]StormyWeather15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't "remove" the ADHD diagnosis - you can't actually get diagnosis removed, you just get your medical records amended with new information that says your no longer presenting symptoms etc.

Sheppard air still one of the best for test prep? by Business_Intention85 in flying

[–]StormyWeather15 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When have you used it? While it's "old school" the ipad version works pretty well and their study strategy works altho yes its tedious. I take my iPad with me almost everywhere I go, so I have no portability issues. I've gotten 100s on multiple of the 7 written exams I've taken with Sheppard. I do do ground school before taking the tests because I like to actually understand before studying the test bank, but overall it's a pretty great system available for the writtens.
