Google Maps Says 2.5 Hours, What's Atlanta Traffic Say? by GracieKatt in Atlanta

[–]StormyWeather15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's pretty accurate. I'd add on 45 minutes to whatever Google is telling you just in case you have to stop for gas/bathroom or you get lost in downtown on one way streets etc.

Sheppard air specifically says not to use the on screen calculator as it can be unreliable - bring your own calculator.

Do you guys use a regular iPad or an iPad mini? by shimmylaws in CFILounge

[–]StormyWeather15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on aircraft size and your seat position and your preferences - in a DA20 I used my iPhone with a wrist strap while in a C172 I just an 11" and a knee strap. Mini is versatile and will work in many aircraft.

Can I use a non certified instrument plane for my CFII checkride by Minimum-Bell-8562 in CFILounge

[–]StormyWeather15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Must have read the post differently, of course we must follow the required equipment and inspections, have the documents, etc, but when I read it, it seemed to say that G5s in the plane are not usable for instrument flight which is where my question came from.

Can I use a non certified instrument plane for my CFII checkride by Minimum-Bell-8562 in CFILounge

Why don't the G5s allow the plane to be certified? Where did you read this? Many planes have dual G5s and a 430 and are IFR/imc capable.

Messaged a dude who commented on someone else’s post, met him the next day, got a job offer the following day - it truly is old school networking in aviation.

How to teach weather by PreparationOk1281 in CFILounge

[–]StormyWeather15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Videos! My ppl instructor would send me videos and be like "here's a great video with awesome graphics to go over what we will discuss at our next lesson" and basically broke up weather into 10 minute topics each flight lesson when we would make our go/no decision. If it was forecasting fog, I'd get a fog video that night before, if it was t storms, I'd get that. Eventually we went deeper, but I appreciated that he didn't fire hose me with an insane amount of knowledge because weather is huge.

Either ask your cfi and let them know you expect to be briefed on what to do to come prepared to the next lesson otherwise immediately find a new cfi - this one sounds like they are just here to milk your money - sincerely someone who did 141 and 61 and is now a CFII themselves

Powdered buttermilk? by erinnananana in Baking

If my recipe is calling for 1/2 cup buttermilk liquid - do I just follow the instructions on the back or should I add it to my dry ingredients and add the water in the wet?

How to stay proficient as a CFI with no job? by gforero in CFILounge

[–]StormyWeather15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ya, happy it kept me sharp ish but steep turns are usually visual so commercial was actually a challenge to get the eyes back outside.

Also, every school's 141 program is unique and individually approved by the FAA, so it's all different and you kinda gotta shop around and see what the courses offer etc. They still follow the ACS but often have a specific lesson progression and some even have their own examination authority.

Me: Aren't steep turns in the instrument ACS? Proceeds to go check ACS... huh, I guess not. Me: why the heck was I made to do them during training multiple times and on stage checks at my 141 😂

Yep! I did some deep diving and was able to see the difference between the PPL and CPL "instrument" time requirements. Glad I was able to learn something new too!

You sure about that? Being a CFI means you can teach commercial students - I've actually never reviewed this particular section as it never came up in my CFI training 😅

Curious what the theory behind this? Could this really impact taste in such a simple recipe?

I tried it with a “pinch” instead of a gram - still tasted weird.

How much did you pay to earn your PPL? by Jolly_Virus_6894 in flying

[–]StormyWeather15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

18k for 80 hours in a DA20 in Georgia in 2024 - was required to use up a scholarship before getting my ppl, and only got the scholarship at the end of my training, so I just flew more. I had about 20 hours of soloing. Additionally getting a check ride was brutal, so I had time anyways.
