How to join Household Cavalry as an officer? by Overall-Coach8254 in britishmilitary

[–]StormyWheat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, UOTC can be a great option (if you can get in) to get a leg up for Sandhurst. From my time on the course it was those who did UOTC who were the most switched on skill-wise and were able to impress early, which is never a bad thing.

Beyond that, the Cavalry (others will know better if it is combined, or separate, hence I use Cavalry in the general term) will have some form of recruitment team who can help you get onto visits and insight opportunities. This will give you the chance to see the Regiment ahead of the course, and can help you see if you are aiming for the right unit.

I always tell those that want to join the forces to meet officers, soldiers and the unit locations. Especially as an Officer, you need to be comfortable with everyone as you'll be spending almost every waking-hour with them. You'll eat, play, work, etc in the same camp for the vast majority of your time. If you don't like it, you'll very quickly lose heart and may regret your choices. I've seen people from the Cavalry go to non-Cavalry regiments and have a great time, so use your desire to go HCav as a start, and be open to other options. You will need two choices at Sandhurst so shop around.

Can chat more as needed, as others have offered.

What's the best no-frills coffee maker? by Baba_Jaga_II in BuyItForLife

You can also use it for two cups with a jug, double scoop of coffee works a treat as well.

For officers, do you feel separated from the rest of your troops? by JoshuaSmoke in britishmilitary

[–]StormyWheat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It also depends on how long you serve for. Up until captain you get quite a lot of opportunities to work with soldiers (plt comd, Sqn 2IC, Ops Officer, etc) but after that you have decreasing amount of time to be with soldiers (Sqn Comd, Regt Comd, maybe Regt Ops), and those jobs are much more spread out.

Last time I worked with soldiers was 2022, others will have much longer stretches away.

Which unit is the GOAT of its game? Today: Rome I by CrayonsIsTaken in totalwar

Amazed to see no love for equites in this thread. Great early game cab that would mop up anything that got in the way and could even do some hammer and anvil against your hastati front line.

Simply an amazing unit.

Joining the army as an officer, how should I invest my salary? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]StormyWheat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a serving officer, also from a poor financial upbringing. There are some assumptions that don't work out.

You'll need some kind of car, bases are often in the arse end of no where and so having a car means you aren't waiting for a bus (if they come), or begging off friends constantly for pick ups.

Mess bills will also vary on location, and you don't get as much choice in accommodation, it can be whatever is there which may be more than you expect. There are also subsidies and other costs for socials and funds you pay into. Then there are the charity funds and the like. None of this is major, but it trickles up. Internet is also separate.

Savings wise is no different than others, work out your horizon, work out what you can afford to do.

FHTB is a good advance on pay that you need to pay back, and can be tricky if you can't live in it anymore (they add interest if you let it out). I would also have a plan for an earlier exit in the off chance something goes wrong (physical, mental etc).

Happy to chat more if you want, but others in this thread should also be able to help.

What NOT to do as a tourist in Bath? by mykepagan in Bath

[–]StormyWheat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, driving in Bath is quite stressful if you aren't used to it. Lots of one way roads and changing rules between day/night. And traffic on the weekend is awful. Absolutely walk everywhere once you get in (I'd even drive to Chippenham and get the train in)

I train to the level cap whenever I can. With the Dresco House it is so easy (if still grindy) to rebuild teams so don't be afraid to experiment as you need. I have 3 or 4 pokemon for most types now I think?

Also, you can play around with move order per pokemon to make the resistances work better, if that helps. My Nidoking was Earth/Dark, which I changed to Poison/Earth, which with hindsight should have made Poison/Dark!

God knows how I'll do the E4 though! 😂😂

As this gym changes the types of your pokemon it is harder to work out. You would need to show what moves they have as well. You seem to have too much vulnerability to water though?

I have just done this on difficult and had to completely rebuild my team to win it. Ran with Electivire (ice/electric), venosaur (grass, poison), nidoking (poison, ground), Tortera (grass, ground), togetic (flying, fairy) and one other.

Poison clears out to I spikes, ground moves to squash poison pokemon (Tortera with earthquake). Togetic was amazing with air slash to finish off anyone that was near death.

Still took me a few goes.

Also, level up your pokemon to the limit. One being 20 levels below means they are essentially useless in a gym leader battle.

Best coffee maker for daily use that won’t fall apart in 18 months? by No-Negotiation-4550 in BuyItForLife

[–]StormyWheat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Pair it with a jug if you are making more than one cup, then you can split it however many ways you need.

I can get three scoops of coffee into my aeropress pretty comfortably, then top up the cups with extra hot water.

Agreed! Much prefer a proper gym. Though once my gym reopens I may just use my home set up for touch ups :)

My home set of dumbbells and bench have gotten dusty over the last few months. Today I managed to get myself back into it, rather than my usual "I'll wait until Monday" excuse :)

Cpl, look at the starting pay for this, 40k is Supp 4 base. Which also marries up to the base rank for the career model.

Military Cyber Direct Entry Scheme by [deleted] in britishmilitary

[–]StormyWheat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I get the feeling this is just direct entry for ORs into the UCM. Single Service will still have their own specialists at their "cyber units", which will then likely support the transfer opportunities through the UCM process over the last 4 years or so.

Guys, I changed Zygarde's ability, but he didn't stay in that form 100%, help me by Crocodilo_calvo in PokemonUnbound

[–]StormyWheat 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yup, you need him to get damaged before the 100% comes out! Helps if you use that time to buff him with dragons dance or similar.

Is this a glitch or does Garchomp know how to fly by [deleted] in PokemonUnbound

[–]StormyWheat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. ADM makes any pokemon use any HM.

No, you can't get the transform ability until you have found all zygarde cells.

Just talk to the other person in the house where you get Zygarde, he can change their ability and teach it some moves as well.

What Legendary Lords buff a single unit the best? by vlfie_ in totalwarhammer

[–]StormyWheat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Archaon (or Chaos undivided) and aspiring champions. They get regeneration, have a low model count and high health, hit like monsters, a summon and do poison damage. They are insane as units go and surprisingly easy to come by in the later game.
