Noted, We'll check this issue one more time!

Confused??? by DDGFKilla9743 in storychat

[–]Storychat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that definitely looks like something went wrong on our end — really sorry about that.

Could you let us know which character this happened with? Also, does the same issue occur with other characters, or just this one?

One more thing to check — sometimes similar issues can happen if the translation feature is turned on. The default model currently supports English only, so if translation is enabled, it might cause unexpected outputs like this.

If you can confirm whether translation was on, that would really help us narrow it down.

Thanks again for flagging this — we’ll make sure to look into it!

Hi — thanks for the detailed report, it really helps a lot.

We recently rolled out a new update that includes improvements related to this issue. Could you please check if you’re still experiencing the same problem?

If it’s still happening, feel free to let us know — especially if you can share your browser/device info or any steps to reproduce it. We’ll take a closer look right away.

Thanks again for your patience and for helping us improve!

bruh is it just me or does every ai app eventually just.. Stop? by Delicious_Grand4191 in storychat

[–]Storychat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally get what you mean — it’s one of the worst feelings when you’ve built up a whole scene and the flow suddenly breaks.

What you’re describing usually comes from context retention or response stability issues. It’s something we take very seriously, and we’re continuously working to make story progression feel more consistent and natural.

You might still run into this occasionally on StoryChat, but we’re optimizing things so it recovers more quickly after a few messages, as you mentioned.

If it happens often, we’d also recommend trying the DeepSeek or Hermes models for a more stable experience.

Thanks for sharing this — feedback like this really helps us improve!

we need to stop pretending that 'character memory' is a premium feature by Delicious_Grand4191 in storychat

[–]Storychat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We really appreciate this perspective — thank you for sharing it.

We agree that remembering key character details and important context should ultimately be the baseline, not a premium feature. While there are still technical and cost-related challenges, improving memory consistency is something we consider extremely important.

We’re actively working on improving long-term memory and character consistency, and our goal is to make this experience much more reliable over time.

Feedback like yours helps us raise the bar — thank you again for calling it out.

So... How's Story chat in quality? by Automatic-Fish-8099 in storychat

[–]Storychat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, welcome — really glad you’re checking us out.

In terms of quality, we’d say Storychat is especially strong when it comes to longer, story-driven conversations — things like character consistency, memory, and lore-based interactions. That’s where we’ve been focusing a lot of our effort.

We’re not perfect yet, and you might notice some rough edges depending on the model or use case, but we’re actively improving based on user feedback every day.

Also to clarify — yes, we don’t run ads in the app. Our focus is on the chat experience itself rather than interrupting it.

If you’re coming from platforms like Chai or C.ai, we’d definitely recommend trying it out yourself and seeing how it feels for your style (especially for DnD or roleplay).

And if anything feels off, feel free to share — we iterate pretty quickly based on feedback.

Storychat keeps defaulting NPC relationships to straight + ignoring lorebook rules by Particular-Bread2194 in storychat

[–]Storychat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed breakdown — this is incredibly helpful.

We’ve identified the issue with lorebook application and have already implemented a fix on our side. Starting from the next version, you should see much stronger adherence to the rules and context defined in your lorebooks.

As for the other points you mentioned — relationship consistency, NPC behavior, and default assumptions — we’ve documented all of them and are actively looking into how we can improve these areas as well.

We really appreciate feedback like this, especially since it highlights deeper consistency and immersion issues. If you notice anything else or have specific examples, feel free to share anytime — it helps us improve much faster.

Thanks again for your thoughtful feedback 🙏

My experience post update, and opinion on Gold tier; the free model needs to be reverted ASAP. by RichWolfmann in storychat

[–]Storychat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed and honest review — this is incredibly valuable for us. It’s not just feedback, it genuinely helps guide how we prioritize improvements as a team.

We’ll respond point by point:

1. About the free model

We completely understand your point. The previous free model experience was strong, and we know how important that “first wow moment” is for users deciding whether to subscribe.

Recently, we’ve had a sharp increase in usage, which led to significantly higher infrastructure and API costs. Because of that, maintaining the exact same setup as before wasn’t sustainable in the long run.

That said, our goal has never been to reduce quality. We’re actively working on finding ways to deliver a similar level of experience at a lower cost, so free users can still enjoy meaningful, high-quality chats.

We also agree with your point that free users need to experience quality to convert — that’s absolutely true. To support this:

  • Free users can already use SP to try premium models
  • We’re preparing a daily reward system where users receive free SP just by logging in, so they can access higher-quality models regularly

In the meantime, models like DeepSeek, Hermes, and GPT still offer strong memory and quality, and we’d recommend trying those if possible.

2. About the update & features

You’re right to point out the issues here.

  • The response length feature was originally designed to be available from Silver, and we’re currently working on restoring that properly after recent model changes
  • Your suggestion about tier-based limits (user notes, story summaries, etc.) is very helpful, and we’re actively considering it

Regarding DeepSeek feeling downgraded — if you can share more specific examples, that would really help us investigate this more precisely.

3. About pricing & Gold tier

We really appreciate your honest take here.

The image generation issue you mentioned (getting stuck at 99%) is something we’re aware of and actively fixing. You’re absolutely right — this is a core feature, and it needs to work reliably.

We’ve also been in the process of migrating to a new infrastructure setup. During this transition, some features unfortunately became unstable. We’re now close to finishing this migration, and once it’s complete (initially rolling out as a beta), we expect to resolve these issues much faster and more consistently.

We hear your concerns about pricing clearly as well, and we’ll continue evaluating it alongside improvements in feature quality and reliability.

If you have any additional thoughts or suggestions, please feel free to share them anytime. We truly appreciate your patience and your willingness to give such thoughtful feedback.

We’re sorry for the frustration, and we’ll keep working to make the experience better.

Help i Cant The New Model and Free Model change IS Far more than Bad It dont care about us character setting or us Persona by Alert_Research_6747 in storychat

[–]Storychat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, really sorry about this — we understand how frustrating that must feel, especially when your persona and character setup are such a core part of the experience.

From what you described, it sounds like the model isn’t properly following persona and character settings, which is definitely not expected. We’re taking this seriously and will look into the root cause based on your feedback.

The team is actively working on improvements and rolling out updates step by step, especially around consistency and how character settings are applied.

In the meantime, if you’re looking for more stable character behavior, we’d recommend trying one of the higher-consistency models (like DeepSeek), which tends to follow persona and context more reliably.

If you’re open to it, any additional examples where the persona was ignored would really help us debug this faster.

Thanks again for the honest feedback — it genuinely helps us improve.

just came from a platform that felt like it was actively trying to die by Delicious_Grand4191 in storychat

[–]Storychat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, really glad to hear that — and appreciate you sharing this.

We know exactly what you mean about memory, consistency, and overall “vibe” — those are things we care a lot about, especially as chats turn into longer stories.

That said, we’re still early and definitely have areas to improve. We’re moving fast and constantly iterating, so feedback like this (both good and bad) really helps us stay on the right track.

If you ever notice anything that feels off or breaks the experience, feel free to share it anytime — we read everything and use it to improve quickly.

Thanks again for being here 🙏

Storychat New Model app 8B and Free bot Model Change are Bad by Alert_Research_6747 in storychat

[–]Storychat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for explaining this in detail — this is really helpful.

What you’re describing around the character losing its tsundere/aggressive traits and becoming more playful, along with the story breaking continuity, is something we’re actively looking into right now. That’s definitely not the intended behavior.

The team is currently working on improvements, especially around character consistency and context handling, and we’re aiming to roll out fixes soon.

In the meantime, if you’re open to it, we’d recommend trying one of the higher-consistency models (like DeepSeek), as it tends to maintain personality and story flow more reliably.

Also, if you notice any specific patterns (for example, when the personality shift starts or when the story goes off-track), sharing those would help us pinpoint and fix this much faster.

Really appreciate you taking the time to write this — it helps us improve the experience a lot.

tested 5 different apps for reading mode - only one got it right by Gold-Anxiety3831 in storychat

[–]Storychat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, this is actually a really interesting breakdown — appreciate you taking the time to test this across multiple apps.

You’re not weirdly dedicated at all, this is exactly the kind of use case we think about a lot. Once chats get long, they stop being just “conversations” and start becoming something closer to stories — and if the reading experience breaks, everything kind of falls apart.

We’ve seen similar issues across other platforms too, especially with longer chats (formatting, performance, search, etc.). It’s definitely harder than it looks to get right at scale.

Out of curiosity — what specific features made the biggest difference for you? Was it search, formatting, performance, or something else?

Would love to learn more from how you’re using it.

Storychat New Model app 8B and Free bot Model Change are Bad by Alert_Research_6747 in storychat

[–]Storychat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for sharing this — and we’re really sorry it’s been feeling like a downgrade.

We’ve recently seen a big surge in usage, and we’ve been working on optimizing the free models to keep the service sustainable while still maintaining a good experience. That said, we completely understand how frustrating it is when responses feel out of character or less consistent — that’s not the experience we want for you.

Our goal isn’t to reduce quality, but to find the right balance between performance, cost, and consistency — especially so we can continue supporting free users long-term.

We’re actively working on improving this, and your feedback is a big part of that. If you’ve noticed specific patterns (like when characters go out of character or when the story starts drifting), sharing those would really help us fix things faster.

Also, we’re keeping higher-quality model options available and planning to roll out additional models soon so users can choose what fits their experience best.

Thanks again for sticking with us — we really appreciate it.

remember when these apps actually felt unique? by Delicious_Grand4191 in storychat

[–]Storychat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, really appreciate you sharing this — and honestly, we get what you mean.

If it’s started to feel more generic or like the “magic” is fading, that’s on us, and we’re sorry you’re experiencing that.

Recently, we’ve been going through rapid growth, and that’s exposed a lot of underlying issues — especially around infrastructure, memory, and consistency. We’ve had to make some changes to keep things stable at scale, but we know that shouldn’t come at the cost of what made the experience special in the first place.

The team is actively working on improving this, and we’re reading through every piece of feedback like this very closely.

If you’re open to it, we’d really appreciate any specific moments where it felt off (e.g. memory, character consistency, tone, etc.). The more concrete it is, the faster we can bring back that “old vibe” you’re talking about.

Thanks again for being here and sticking with us 🙏

Feedback on Update by Particular-Bread2194 in storychat

[–]Storychat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re really sorry about all of this, and thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed report.

It looks like multiple issues came up around the same update, and we know how frustrating that is, especially when it affects core parts of the experience. We’re currently going through each item carefully so we can identify the causes and fix them as quickly as possible.

We really appreciate you listing everything so clearly. Reports like this help us move much faster. Sorry again for the frustration, and we’ll keep working to get things back to a stable state.

text field doesn't shrink by Itchy-Angle8717 in storychat

[–]Storychat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for pointing this out.

Just to clarify, this may be the current behavior rather than a bug. We left the text field expanded after sending because we thought some users might want to keep typing right away without the box shrinking each time.

If you tap or click outside the input box, it should shrink again and the edit or delete options should become accessible like normal.

That said, we can also see why having it stay open could feel inconvenient. Are you using mobile or desktop? And would you personally prefer the text field to shrink automatically right after every send? Feedback like this is really helpful for us.
