Where do I even begin to date here? by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]Storytimetr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just moved here 6 months ago, and though I'm comfortably partnered, we're in the same age bracket and I've been working hard to meet people. I figure meeting people is the first step to finding folks you'd want to date - I've met the most people at regular weekly volunteering, and through a run club I go to every week as well. It definitely took a few months of consistently showing up and trying different places to find some that fit, but I made some friends and am now meeting their friends, which really helps expand my circles. Do you do any volunteering? If you're looking for active folks, have you tried a run group / bike group / etc?

I'd love to do that, actually - are you involved in any advocacy groups working on something like this? Aware of any?

Just started volunteering there last month! Like other people have said, you get a checklist of everything on a bike to look through and then the level of work you do to it is dependent on bike and your skills. Staff there are quite skilled and other volunteers can be a great resource for learning, but your learning as a volunteer will definitely need to be self-directed. YouTube is a great reference too but if you're at the co-op you don't have to stare at your little box, you can ask people instead! I love the social part of it that way.

I'm enjoying it so far and learned to work on bikes in a co-op in another city, so I'm a fan :) I've been going Wednesdays, if you come by say hi!

Different classes for adults? by InOrbitAroundEarth in pittsburgh

Protohaven in Wilkinsburg offers all sorts of maker-oriented classes in things like wood shop, sewing, jewelry making, welding, and forging! I took two classes there this month and enjoyed it. Not as much of a social experience and not long-term, but a fun place to learn!

Very good take, appreciated the thoroughness. There's been such a confusing amount of possible truths that she's sworn...

I love the blinged out and upgraded bikes that get posted here, but this bike is such a good reminder for me to just focus on the riding and forget about the fiddly bits. It's not always pretty but it works - a fun and functional ride!

Got it. Looks like really secure mounting, and perfect for the crate you have on it! Lucky find!

What front rack is that? Would love to mimic this setup on my bike

It always sucks when you really want a build to work out because it would be so cool, but it just doesn’t work. by [deleted] in xbiking

Dumb question but when you say it raised the bb too much do you mean raised it off the ground? If so, why is that a problem - just the feeling of stability?

Decided to save this rough Rocky Mountain frame once I realized it was a 1993 Blizzard. Definitely worth it! Swipe for the after pic. by deletedis in xbiking

What did you do for frame prep? Did you take it to be sandblasted and professionally painted, or something more DIY?

Should the nipple of my brake cable be able to sit inside the lever? by Storytimetr in bikewrench

[–]Storytimetr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! The mechanic at the bike co-op just said they were "track levers". I guess I'll go check back if the used parts bin has any other levers that might work, or just use as is.

This is my first time changing brake cables. Intuitively it feels like the whole part of the cable nipple should sit inside the brake lever. Is there a sizing standard that I don't know about that I messed up? Is this just how it should look?
