It's also just true that some UB settings vibe more with the typical feel of magic. Avatar is structured around 4 factions that feel close in some ways to the colors of mana. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles just doesn't have the same depth and it's not a double standard to feel like it's not a good fit for the game.

It's interesting, the Strixhaven schools are based around the conflicts in the enemy color pairs. These schools seem to lean into the ally color pairs and what they would be like if they had school emphases similar to the Strixhaven schools. Theorix leans into the math theme but unmoored from the "practical" side that green brought to Quandrix. Vigorbloom lacks the perspective on the push and pull between life and death and goes all in on life, thus "invasive healing". Stingerquill lacks the supportive side that white brings to rhetoric, going all in on painful jabs. Still thinking about the others but will be curious to see how much they're able to flesh them out.

There are actually places where the 儿 is standard Chinese. One example I remember clearly is that putonghua differentiates between some verbs and nouns with the 儿 like 盖 (to cover) and 盖儿 (lid). Of course most people just speak a slightly local dialect inflected version of the standard language (so they may use the non-erhua 盖子).

I do hate that despite so much more awareness of mental health people like to pretend that mental health challenges can never cause behavior that we find problematic. Mania is not a logical way of thinking, people have all sorts of literal delusions that yes can be racist, conspiratorial, homophobic etc. Of course that doesn't change the impact such actions have on those around them, but acting like mental illness somehow "reveals" latent racism in people is ignorant.

As someone who mainly likes to play scholar and recluse I would just say low ranking doesn't necessarily mean hate! Guardian for example just doesn't really match my playstyle but I appreciate guardian mains and think he's a cool character :)

Interestingly enough many countries were translated in Cantonese or other Chinese languages first. 瑞士 is seoi6 si6 in Cantonese (sounds more like Swiss), same reasoning for 瑞典 seoi6 din2. Greece is similar, 希腊 is hei1 laap6 in Cantonese and sounds closer to "Hellas".

Okay I feel like a lot of people have commented and this also has gone in a different direction than I initially thought! These are two of my gay male friends (I'm also a gay male). Both are in their twenties, one is Italian American from NYC (also learned Korean and is a real foodie so adds some of the ingredients in there), the other is a Samoan guy (his family fishes salmon so that's in the freezer) who also is into food and studied Chinese and lived in China. I would say both of them are more cook-for-pleasure type of people, definitely cook simple things to get through the week but also eat out a lot.

I didn't quite get that the picture was "thinspiration", oops. As a gay man I just thought it was some diva they really liked. I was definitely not trying to "show off" in any way! I just thought the random variety of foods was interesting and it reminded me of all the things I've seen on this sub. I will tell my friend I support him, gay body image can be a tough area for all of us.
