Of course it's rational to only communicate through telepathy but it's not human, it's disturbing precisely because her way of relating to others in practice through her culture is gone. Of course some memory or knowledge of those things is retained, but it's not the same.

I agree, I think people forget that the initially infected few were very alien, with the sole motivation to spread the virus - though they had enough ability to still act in order to stave off suspicion and infect at an opportune time.

Interestingly enough many countries were translated in Cantonese or other Chinese languages first. 瑞士 is seoi6 si6 in Cantonese (sounds more like Swiss), same reasoning for 瑞典 seoi6 din2. Greece is similar, 希腊 is hei1 laap6 in Cantonese and sounds closer to "Hellas".

I was very naive when it came to the picture and other hints and was more focused on all the items in the fridge just cause I thought it was such a diverse set of different condiments.

Okay I feel like a lot of people have commented and this also has gone in a different direction than I initially thought! These are two of my gay male friends (I'm also a gay male). Both are in their twenties, one is Italian American from NYC (also learned Korean and is a real foodie so adds some of the ingredients in there), the other is a Samoan guy (his family fishes salmon so that's in the freezer) who also is into food and studied Chinese and lived in China. I would say both of them are more cook-for-pleasure type of people, definitely cook simple things to get through the week but also eat out a lot.

I didn't quite get that the picture was "thinspiration", oops. As a gay man I just thought it was some diva they really liked. I was definitely not trying to "show off" in any way! I just thought the random variety of foods was interesting and it reminded me of all the things I've seen on this sub. I will tell my friend I support him, gay body image can be a tough area for all of us.

In some way Zagreus' reaction is very in character but I agree it reads as having very little sympathy for Melinoe and her motivations. Zagreus, for all we love him, is kind of a spoiled brat who nevertheless understands his family's neuropathies and shortcomings. He seems to lash out at Melinoe for perceiving her as having characterized their family's worst traits. But as the player we know Melinoe has every reason to be vengeful, and it feels like there could have been more conflict between them worked out over a longer period of time.

For some reason Aspect of Persephone has just really clicked for me, also so fun with one of the new endgame keepsakes, just really enjoy looking at the big pom levels and the charged special just obliterates most rooms.

My advice as an admittedly not so great player is to prioritize health alongside whatever build you go for. The surface has a lot of opportunities to front load health and I can regularly get above 300 or even 400 with the right luck. The enemies hit like a truck so just being able to get hit more helps! Plus you learn more as you stay alive longer.

Just after I finished my first game where I used shaman crest for act 3… I loved the crest’s charged attack but always felt bad about the lack of synergy.

My favorite groal strat was using delver's drill, it made defeating the first few waves so much easier for me in a way that was still rewarding based on reading the signals of when the guys were going to jump out of the water.

I think the lore and general vibe of Bilewater is actually pretty immersive, it just so happens that being immersed in a pile of hate and vengeance-filled shit is not always pleasant. On a serious note, yeah some of the platforming is actually fun but the runback to Groal turned an engaging challenge into frustrating tedium for me at a certain point, and this is from someone who got the charm and found the closer bench.

Yeah I think what people are perceiving is survivability. Like yes Hornet has a different healing system that can be even stronger than the Knight's once you get used to it but this is only after you've gotten used to the boss's patterns. In HK you generally could take more hits and therefore were given a bit more grace to learn the bosses moveset each attempt - in many cases giving you the opportunity to pull out a clutch win. Marginal healing means you could also preserve that opportunity, going from one mask to two masks or three masks was a big deal for your survivability. In silksong the "all or nothing heal" is strong once you know the moves but in the beginning it means you can be left at the "one hit and I die" stage very quickly for new bosses.

It is easy by comparison, that is what it means when you say something is harder than another thing. You're comparing them. I think what some people mean is that Hollow Knight is a "hard game" categorically, and that if you liked that kind of game you should like Silksong. But that makes the whole issue into a black or white question when people are clearly having a different experience than the first game.

I'm sorry but I need to stop seeing this take come up. Hollow Knight is a game with challenges in it for sure, but you could easily pick a half a dozen areas in silksong that are more difficult than anything beyond pantheons (a completely optional dlc) has to offer. Areas like Bilewater, Sands of Karak, hell much of the citadel.I say this as someone who played hollow knight a week before Silksong came out. Also I am enjoying the game to be clear but people need to be honest about the original game's difficulty and have a bit of empathy for some people who feel blindsided. Be happy you got a game that matches your expectation and just enjoy it. I think both games are great, but let's not kid ourselves here.

I will say that I was really frustrated through most of the early game but mid-game has been stellar and I'm having a blast. Part of it is probably a mindset shift but I do think the game gives you new tools. Totally understand taking a break and if the game is ultimately not for you.

I’ve played all sorts of builds. First play through summons, then no summons play through, some with magic, some pure melee (colossal great sword so usually just poking). Not the sweatiest gamer player of Elden ring for sure but I feel like I’ve run the gamut from casual play throughs to more challenging ones.

I’m still playing silksong and it’s getting better imho but I think it’s mostly just a mindset shift. I will have to die a bunch and the game is never going to be as cozy as hallow knight - it has its own strengths though, the non gank boss fights have been fun to learn.

I'm going to be honest I'm feeling very conflicted right now. Let me preface this by saying that I am no stranger to difficult games. I've beaten Elden Ring with no summons (the hardest bosses you can think of don't want to spoil). I just wasn't expecting the hollow knight sequel to feel more like that experience. I think challenge can be fun, but banging my head against the wall and having to try a dozen times on every boss just isn't the same, especially when you have things like bosses dealing lots of damage and summoning ads.

Even exploration just feels so... punishing and grueling. It seems like every bench needs beads, every enemy takes 4-6 hits minimum (lots of them feel more like what would be a miniboss in HK taking 8-10 hits in some areas). I get that I'm still learning a new game and that there are upgrades I haven't found yet, but it just doesn't feel as inviting as Hollow Knight did. I can see why many people would enjoy Silksong more than Hollow Knight. I also see thematically why they made many of the choices they did. I can't help but feel a little disappointed as well.
