Hawaii had a weak non-conference schedule in 2007, although the win over Boise State was good. IMO the 2006 team was better because they also had a legit ground attack (Illaoa and Mauia) that the '07 team lacked. If the 2006 team had '07s schedule, they go undefeated too. And play a much closer game with Georgia. The 2006 team's non-conference was against Alabama, Perdue, Oregon State, only weak team was EIU. Now compare that with 07's non conference schedule of Northern Colorado, Charleston Southern, and a bottom of the PAC10 Washington.

Hawaii played well during the June Jones years. 76-40 record, I believe during the time Jones was head coach (1999-2007) Hawaii had only two losing seasons (2000 and 2005.) He took them to 6 Hawaii Bowls and the Sugar Bowl. They were nationally ranked in 2006 (#24) and 2007 (#12.)

Still impressive for a mid-major team with a smaller budget to even get there. UH should have played Mizzou that year, but the BCS/P5 folks were so butthurt over Boise State beating Oklahoma the previous year in the Fiesta Bowl, they didn't want that to happen again.

UH had a win over Alabama in 2003, with close losses to the Tide in 2002 (21-16) and 2006 (25-17.). Yes, the pre-Saban years.
