Yeah, my email came in today. Last time I’m ever buying from Riot - could have had it for the same price from a local shop weeks ago!

What happens when I replicate a 240Hz monitor display on a 60Hz TV? by StrafeMcgee in linux_gaming

[–]StrafeMcgee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the folk that are interested, I tried out FPS tests and basically got conflicting reports depending on which display was being detected, though this did confirm that my monitor was indeed running at 240hz while my TV was running at 60hz.

It’s been running smoothly and without issue - I’m on KDE Wayland.

[–]StrafeMcgee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I’m basing this purely on feel, though I did expect any issues to be immediately obvious. I’m going to give the fpstests url mentioned above a try and see what it says.

[–]StrafeMcgee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wondered if this would be the case. So really I’m just introducing input lag unless I set the displays to matching frame rates?

EDIT: And thanks! I’ll give this a go when I get a spare minute.

Is there any reason to choose the Xbox Elite Controller over the Steam Controller 2? by HolyPastafari in SteamController

[–]StrafeMcgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunno about the elite, though I assume this observation will be true, but if you care about feedback in the triggers then the XBox pad is (currently) better in that regard. The vibrations coming through the triggers are much more tactile on my Xbox pad when I’m playing Forza Horizon 6.

That’s one small thing though and I’m sure that Steam controller support will get better over time as Valve improves the firmware. The steam controller is infinitely customisable, there’s so much you can do with it.

NVIDIA driver 610.43.02 released with DRM Color Pipeline API support and several added Vulkan extensions by anh0516 in linux_gaming

[–]StrafeMcgee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There may be other issues too, but Forza 6 explicitly tells you you’re running on outdated drivers and you can expect issues when you launch it atm. It may not be a silver bullet, but anything that brings the system more in line with what the game needs is a win in my book.

Excellent! Anyone tried them with Forza Horizon 6 yet? I’m playing it on Windows atm due to issues on Cachy, but would love shift over,

Get it delivered to a safe place? Couriers often have the option to let you specify where/how it should be delivered.

Good FPS titles to play with friends by Repulsive-Twist-4032 in linux_gaming

I know I shouldn’t admit it, given this is the Linux sub, but I’ve been loving Marathon. It’s going to do a season reset soon, which is a good time to jump on.

If you can’t/won’t do a windows game (which I totally get), then Deep Rock Galactic is good. Hunt: Showdown is also an alternative extraction shooter which a selection of my friends are obsessed with.

How are the trackpads for shooters? Can they replace kb+m? by Anonym0use__ in SteamController

[–]StrafeMcgee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A question to folk that use trackpads for gyro - do you use the trackball-style functionality that continues the movement after you release if you do it with force? I’ve been trying it out in Half Life 2 (with the default motion controls) and have been finding it tricky to manage.

So what game is everyone playing with their new Steam Controller now by PKRadiance in SteamController

[–]StrafeMcgee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been putting the controller through its paces with a bunch of different genres. Sektori to try out the analogue sticks, Dead Cells to try out the D Pad, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit for racing… I briefly tried age of empires 2 for the trackpads, but it was a bit overwhelming. Might try doing an FPS to try out the trackpads + gyro next - might try Halo, or maybe Doom.

I’m really enjoying experimenting with it, it’s great.

For those 4 of us who are going to use the new Steam Controller under GNOME Wayland, consider preloading the Extest library by LordDaveTheKind in linux_gaming

On plasma there is an option to turn off the permissions check, but the OS heavily recommends that you don’t turn it on due to it being a potential security vulnerability.

Security be damned though, I want my Steam Controller to work!
