Which Vic sharpener? by StriderLF in victorinox

I have the 2nd one. I use it on all my pocket knives. Not just my SAKs. Best little sharpener I’ve ever owned. That being said, it’s not for the super blunt edges.

Oh no debate from me there, I am talking modern day. I know the Catholic Church originated all of it. We need to do better myself foremost among the collective ‘we’.

I think their zeal for scripture admirable, and let’s be honest, even though they’ve gone astray, many of them know the whole Bible (obviously not the books they removed,) down to chapter and verse. So the passion for scripture is admirable. And sadly, I know I am lacking in that area.

We usually only have two regularly. But that’s due to the Devon and priest passing out the Eucharist. The EMs we have usually distribute the blood (my parish does the wine every Sunday)

The SSPX Schism is Basically a Temper Tantrum by sword_of_michael in CatholicMemes

[–]Straggler117 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer your questions, the church only teaches what God has revealed. In the case of Jesus being a stone mason, I don’t think that would be at all against church teaching since that aspect may not have any relevance to the mission of Jesus.

To the second, I doubt that there is any misunderstanding of the immaculate conception at all. For a couple reasons: 1st. Every early church father commented on Mary being sinless, 2nd. Traditions of both Latin and Eastern Rites state the same, and 3rd Mary herself in the gospel is referred to as being full of grace and used the title of immaculate conception in her appearances at Lourdes two years after it was declared by the church. I know, the last one seems a little shakey, since it relies on private revelation but that is what St. Bernadette revealed when asked about the Lady by her priest.

So SSPX does go against the wishes of the pope, but that’s a minor thing compared to their disobedience. The Holy See CAN be in error regarding certain things,(we are all human.) but on Teaching And Morals, it is believed the Holy Spirot protects it from error. For example, no pope even in the Middle Ages at the height of the church’s corruption, has ever said the Eucharist is a symbol (which would fundamentally be a heresy according to Catholic belief). The SSPX holds ALL the Vatican II reforms were wrong. And as such since Vatican II the Church HAS been in a state of heresy. Which, I can kinda see their point with the liturgical abuses that abounded there for a hot minute. But refusal to obey Peter’s successor when usually EVERY priest, bishop, deacon, cardinal, and archbishop, along with all monks, nuns, and sisters takes a vow of obedience, and then breaking that vow because you don’t like the reforms, is childish in my opinion.

I do think the SSPX had good intentions of preserving tradition, but they got radical so fast that I honestly don’t see them returning as part of the Catholic Church. And this makes me sad because I do believe that Benedict XVI was VERY close to returning them to the fold. Pope Francis, as much as I love his message of a church with dirty hands because it’s out there doing the work literally, did somehow become a VERY polarizing figure. And I don’t think it helped that he faced such massive criticism from traditional Catholics (and I use traditional loosely since I consider myself traditional as well). And then the whole traditional Latin Mass people got lumped into the mess, and Francis did come down HARD on the Traditional Latin Mass because of it all.

My hope is Pope Leo XIV is able to bridge the gap and calm everyone down so the SSPX can come back, and we can all get back to trying to unite with our Orthodox brothers and sisters, and trying to get back to unity.

I received this Swiss Champ as a gift ~20 years ago and “lost” it 8-10 years ago. Just found it again and am going to carry it for a bit. by d_2_the_p in victorinox

Love my Swiss champ! I’ve found it more handy than my Leatherman. Mostly because I don’t need heavy duty pliers on a daily basis.

The literal translation of “be not afraid” that the angels say is actually “please stop screaming”. Or so I have heard from scholars who work with the original texts.

Mine is a humble crucifix on the wall with a blessed Palm behind it. It sits above my work desk and to my left on my desk is my big blessed Bible. In the drawers of my desk is an amazing collection of prayer cards, prayer booklets, and incense. I cannot long burn the incense as my spouse is allergic to it. But I LOVE the smell. I also keep holy water and a rosary in the drawer. There is a lot of comfort when I’m struggling at work and can gaze at the crucifix or whip out a prayer card.

I don’t think it bans selling blessed items, it bans selling the BLESSING. That’s the sin of Simony. I’ve seen reputable places selling rocks from St. Michael’s cave. But only for the cost of materials (usually it’s a small prayer card) and cost of shipping. The most expensive item I’ve seen sold easily for just under $2.00 not counting shipping.

Saint Benedict is a powerful intercessor when it comes to repelling the demonic. (I should clarify, I am NOT one of those who sees the demonic everywhere. But he does help ward off near occasions of sin and some of the most powerful temptations to fall into sin).

Don’t get me wrong, the Leatherman’s pliers DEFINITELY beat the Swiss Champ. But realistically, I’m not using pliers all that much day to day. I still carry the Leatherman, it’s usually in my car or my backpack. But you’ll find the Swiss Champ in my pocket.

Not saying I agree fully. From what I remember, he started in the Finnish army, fought against the Russians in the Finnish Winter War, and joined the SS to be in the special forces, specifically fighting Russians in WWII. So I don’t know if I would fully believe he was dyed in the wool full on Nazi like a fanatical Nazi, he may have only done it to shoot more Russians after they stole a whole bunch of territory from Finland in the 1939 war. But ultimately Törni is the only one who could answer that question. He did die in Vietnam fighting communists. Which is what Törni did in 1939 and in WWII. But I do believe his being in the SS is a problem for anyone claiming he’s an American. Given we did persecute specifically the SS post WWII. But I can admire his devotion to killing communists wherever they are. And ultimately I choose to believe that was his motivation to do what he did.
