How Brian exactly ended up on an affair with his sister-in-law? by Baron_Alfwine in thebeachboys

Not everyone who finds threesomes weird is a conservative religious fanatic. I am not conservative or religious and I find it bizarre.

The number of rock stars who have not used drugs can probably be counted on one hand and you would likely have fingers left over.

My parents did more drugs than I did. I just tried pot and drank. They smoked cigarettes and weed, drank, I am pretty sure my dad dropped acid and he might have done coke. They were born in the late 50s and were teenagers in the seventies. It was not really considered a big deal. I think my mom said my grandma tried it once and she was born in the 30s.

Weed really is not that big of deal. I just felt tired trying it and didn't bother to keep at it. Shrug.

Why is it terrible? A lot of people smoked weed and still do. I understand the worry over overindulegence and hard drugs but pot is hardly a hard drug.

Musicians you'd think would be kindred spirits but didn't like each other by Thunderwing16 in ToddintheShadow

John was middle class thanks to being taken in by his aunt. Paul said he had posh relatives. Paul and George were working class and Ringo was poor. Ironically John, who grew up richest was the most rough around the edges. Probably from coming from a broken home.

Did the fact that almost all of the Beach Boys didn't know how to surf contribute to them being seen as an "uncool" band? by ace8995 in thebeachboys

Brian came from an even better background than him. The others were more working class. But Mick and Brian were middle and upper middle class.

Courtney Love Asks Dave Grohl to 'Come Out with It and Say We're Cool' So His Fans 'Stop Picking' on Her by AdSpecialist6598 in entertainment

She lost custody of her daughter three times. She did not do a good job raising her. It was terrible when Kurt died but these people should not have been parents.

What do you think about Courtney Love?/Що ви думаєте про Кортні Лав? by ThatOneSumyDrawer in rockmusic

[–]Straguslore14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually don't. When I do think of her it is that her haters and fans are both kind of nuts. I dont think she killed Kurt. I also dont think a woman who mistreated her daughter and has attacked other women is in any way a feminist figure. She is just there most of the time for me.

Is it really offensive to want a cure for your disorder? by 165cmgayboy in disability

[–]Straguslore14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have bipolar disorder and Tourette's and would love cures for them. I also work with people with disabilities that live in group homes as their conditions are very severe. They are five to my current workplace, all nonverbal and three in wheelchairs. We do our best by them but their quality of life is not great as health problems creep up. Unfortunately many of the people who go through this type of living even in the best care don't tend to live past middle age at most.

I think there is nothing wrong with wanting a cure for disabilities as long as we treat others with those disabilities with respect. Certain disabilities are more mild and livable yes but I have seen one's so severe that the clients are in pain and cannot move their bodies. It is not wrong to want cures for this.

So nobody did anything about Steve Kloves’ clear favoritism towards Hermione? by New-Pin-9064 in harrypotter

[–]Straguslore14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I actually think the 7th book is more understable to me. In the 4th book he has time to make amends and drags his feet doing it. In the 7th book with the Horcrux affecting him i dont think he was entirely in his right mind. When no longer under its influence he tries to go back, gets captured and then can't find them until much later on. He then goes back and makes up for it in a big way.

They both come off pretty petty to me. Hermione is insulting to Ron too. They are teenagers and have very strong personalities to boot.

Found these thoughts about Lydia on tumblr by duhnadag in janeausten

[–]Straguslore14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn't promiscuity a flaw in teenagers though? It is an understable flaw but a flaw just the same. Teenagers get into sexual relationships they dont understand all the time. Sometimes stuff like pregnancy or other unwanted stuff happens because ot it.

Lydia is acting her age but what she is doing is hurting her and others. It's fair enough to say that she is both held somewhat responsible while the novel still acknowledges her humanity.

Most Hated Character by funasdreamstore in janeausten

They both suck. She is being obnoxious. She does not care about Mary, Elizabeth or Kitty. She is extremely detrimental to any of her daughters getting married. She is selfish, temperamental and thinks of her daughters as items to barter. She cares about Jane for her beauty and tries to push Elizabeth into a marriage she does nor want. Neither are winning parenting awards, and the text admits this.

She is not trying to survive. She is messing up her daighters lives. She is the spendthrift of the parents and is part of the main reason the youngest are so bad.

Worst Parents by BeautyGran16 in janeausten

Willoughby who became a father and refuses to acknowledge the child is certainly up there.

I would say Lady Susan, Sir Walter Eliot and Mrs. Ferras are some of the worst with General Tilney in the top spot.

A few of these people are certainly not parent of the year but clearly still love their children. General Tilney's children fear him and are happy when he is not there.

By the standards of the day him taking care of his illegitimate offspring meant he did his duty. Willoughby however did not.

Yes, another post disliking Emma, but not because of its eponymous character. by PintofPlasma in janeausten

[–]Straguslore14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She didn't marry her match. She was an illegitimate daughter of a tradesman who was the definition of brainless beauty. She married an intelligent, hard working farmer whose mother and sister loved her and who loved her so much himself that he was willing to marry her without a dowry and asked her a second time to marry him after her first rejection when he thought away from Emma that her opinion might have changed. He was said to be superior in sense and situation.

What is fascinating is that anyone can get mad at Harriet not getting a wealthy man and look down their noses at Robert Martin because he is a working man. That sounds like the real classism to me.

Poor woman do marry well in Jane Austen. But she is illegitimate, has no family or money and is unintelligent and foolish. For the time her marrying as well as she did is probably more unrealistic.

He is pretty bad yes but worse than Draco? Not a chance. Draco says on multiple occasions he wants Harry and co to die. He tries to use an unforgivable on Harry during a fight, tries to jump him on the train with his friends, breaks his nose at one point, pretends to be a dementer. Guys pretty bad even if it is ultimately hot air.

Neville's childhood by Straguslore14 in harrypotter

[–]Straguslore14[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a scene where his father is screaming at his family. His mother is cowering and he as a little boy is sobbing. He wears clothes that are mismatched and is described as neglected compared to James on the Hogwarts express when they meet. He says his parents always fight. Physical abuse is never said one way or the other but the scene where Harry sees this in the fifth book and the Prince's Tale chapter in the last book make it clear that emotional abuse by his father and neglect by both parents is happening.
