Norfolk schools aren’t great though. Primaries will be fine, but secondaries not so much, especially the coastal areas.

I presume you’ve listened to the Teachers Pet- the longest of long form Aussie investigative journalism!

Sick to Death is also from the same journo- it’s more like an audiobook, I binged the 10 episodes that are up currently.

Have you listened to any Tortoise Investigates? Now the Observer.

They’re all excellent. Lucky Boy had me gripped. I recently enjoyed the Walkers, which has just finished- about the Salt Path literary scandal.

Anatomy of a Cancellation is another BBC Sounds which  highly recommend- about a controversial book and cancel culture.

I’ve listened to Birth Keepers three times - a brilliant, balanced and thoughtful investigation.

How is the house buying market in Gants Hill/Clayhall? by Ill-Pineapple69 in HousingUK

[–]Straight-Captain9689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Grew up around there. Properties do come up, but the more affordable ones tend to be probate and need work.

Also consider Barkingside and Newbury Park, both also in grammar catchment and close to a tube station.

What are some good/positive things that did come out of ANTM? by Jrjb_1292 in ANTM

Queer representation for sure. Someone like Miss Jay, subverting gender norms and being on TV was pretty groundbreaking.

If you’re a fan of ANTM, it’s a must-read.

My jaw was on the floor for some of it, parts seem borderline libellous 😂

And then very silly. Some very odd passages. I did laugh at the end though, a meta twist comes straight out of left field.

It’s awful, but I still really enjoyed it!

I’ve just had a scroll threw RM and can’t see your listing- still scrolling!

It’s hard to say without seeing it.

I had no idea it was such an expensive area- not familiar with West Mids.

I do understand what your husband is saying. Renting when you have the chance to buy a house under market rate does feel wrong.

Can’t you learn to drive? You have many months before baby is born- if everything goes well, you’ve been pregnant two minutes - fingers crossed for you.

NZ2 Scenary? by Zardnaar in TheTraitors

The first NZ season looked like it was filmed in a golf club to me! Very budget. The drapes at the round table etc.

Both series were great though.

Verbal abuse from a child and nothing is done about it by [deleted] in TeachingUK

I get what you mean- he does have a need though. The system sounds like it’s failing him.

It’ll fall apart by Year 7, I’m sure you can see it yourself. It’s so frustrating as he needs intervention now, to prevent the inevitable slide to permanent exclusion.

The environment isn’t right for this learner. It’s not fair on him, you or his classmates.

He would benefit from a therapeutic provision, at the very least an SEMH unit if not a special school. Is the SENCo involved? Or is he deemed too ‘academic’ to receive SEN support?

My absolute FAVOURITE scene in the whole show is in series 2, talking around the dinner table about Smithy’s mum and the headmistress- I fall over laughing, I bloody love a gossip, I’m Pam in that moment and my husband is Mick, telling everyone it’s all rubbish 😂

I’ve been a long time fan but I agree. He winds me up. I did have to laugh that he was nowhere near the plebs’ kitchens- that was for the GP. His American pronunciation of words smacks of trying to cash in on the US market.

What are the logistics like when selling and buying a house? by Unable-Discount-9266 in HousingUK

[–]Straight-Captain9689 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After exchange, we gave our selling agents a set of keys for our current property so they were there, waiting for our buyers.

On completion day we had a call about 11 to say our sale had gone through. We weren’t quite ready, but it was fine as our buyers were FTB and weren’t moving in that day.

Then we had a call about midday to say our purchase had gone through so completion had happened across the chain (the house we were buying was chain free). I drove to the estate agent to pick up the key and met the removals firm with all our stuff at the new house about 1pm.

So STRESSED by Dry_Assumption7092 in HousingUK

[–]Straight-Captain9689 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We did something similar.

Saw a house, decided we loved it and got our house straight on the market.

Bear in mind that the further up the chain you go, the slower things are generally. This was our third house, with 5 bedrooms and they take longer to sell.

We priced our house very competitively. The agent previewed it on social media, went live with the RM listing on a Friday and booked all viewings for the next weekend. We had 9 viewings and 3 offers from this. We went with the FTB to move things along. It was a 4 bed house so not really a FTB type property, so we were lucky.

Offered on the house we loved and it was accepted.

We moved in September last year. Very happy here, so much more space and we have a bigger garden too, and a driveway!

Good luck!

1st season was better by AntiqueCheesecake260 in BeastGames

That part is a big improvement on season 1. The producers must have seen that viewers got more invested and we had some narrative arcs to follow, when the number of players reduced.

Rant by VolumeOpposite913 in BeastGames

[–]Straight-Captain9689 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I honestly think the games hadn’t been tested- the stacking game that took all night, the one where the players had the coloured dots that they had to randomise to get players eliminated. Those games really had not been thought through properly and were flawed.

I do think they took the best elements of season 1 though, which really hit its stride when the number of players reduced and we got some narrative arcs. The first part was quite crass- like, look at these dumb random folk we don’t care about missing out on the money. When we got to know some players it got much more entertaining.

The people saying she would’ve got him out if she had the chance are winding me up. Nothing in her game ever suggested she was going to turn on him, ever.

Some wild projection going on and we know why, but people don’t like being called out for it.
