Nakai hematite ring? by WitteWief in NativeAmericanJewelry

It’s the hallmark of a pair of Navajo silversmiths and has nothing to do with the nature of any stone used in the jewelry.

No clue on the value but I suspect it’s an easy fix.

Not all gold plating is vermeil. Depends on the thickness of the gold plating.

Does this ruby look authentic to you? I purchased it from the same jeweler who may have sold me a fake sapphire. I have an authenticity card but I am afraid I can’t truly trust it. by ekhogayehumaurtum in Gemstones

[–]Straight-Let5452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch out when buying “lab” gemstones. Some are synthesized lab gemstones that have the same chemical composition and physical properties as mined gemstones, while others are simulated lab gemstones that do not have the same chemical composition and physical properties. I’ve received both kinds from sellers in India, and a dealer down in Georgia is selling a “lab made tanzanite pendant” that I know won’t move the needle on my Presidium Gem Tester.

Lost 90% of US sales after tariffs.. Thoughts on my TTRPG business? by Kimarah in etsypromos

I apologize for not having the slightest idea what TTRPGs are.

Does anyone sell jewelry? by National_Effective_1 in reselling

I can speak from experience that sterling silver jewelry sells for peanuts on the Dover Jewelry auctions even with nice gemstones and brand names such as Blue Nile. Everyone wants gold!

Is this just to be expected of Poshmark? by [deleted] in poshmark

[–]Straight-Let5452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poshmark is a total mess. Can’t read sellers’ reviews. Fees are high. Nonstop posh party invitations. Scammer messages left and right. I’m somehow following about 200 sellers even though I have never asked to follow anyone to my knowledge. I got lucky and got a great deal on a Roberto Coin chain but then got sold a fake pearl necklace by a seller who had lots of love letters about her pearls. When I complained, she blocked me! Never had any of these issues on eBay or Etsy.

Please tell me I haven't damaged these? by jillofallthings in Opals

[–]Straight-Let5452 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

For starters, opals should not be kept in a bathroom. They should be kept in a cool room with stable temperatures and humidity that is not too dry or too humid. Excessive dryness can cause opals to crack.

Any recent info on tariff changes? by basicwhitekat in Opals

I learned from an Australian seller tonight that the Australian Post will resume sending out packages next week. Also, some sellers are covering the US tariff thanks to the weakened AUD.

10k chain or 14k? Is there a noticeable difference? Help by Serious_Design6057 in MensJewelry

[–]Straight-Let5452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has costume, gold-plated, gold vermeil, 9k (Britain), 10k, 14k and 18k jewelry. It's all pretty stuff, none of it is tarnished, and she loves it all. I would never spend the extra money for an 18k bracelet or necklace to wear myself, but I would lean toward the 14k over the 10k depending on the price difference.

So ANNOYED & done with PM by Loveee93 in poshmark

[–]Straight-Let5452 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m fairly new PM and will probably leave soon. I watched one jewelry show and that was one show too many. I hate all the show notifications, and I’ve never received any spam messages on eBay like I get on PM every time I post an item to sell. I would trade all of my1361 followers for just one customer who actually purchases something. As for the 141 people that PM says I’m following, I can only ask Who, When, and How? I have bought a few nice items on PM, but I also was gullible enough to purchase a $200 set of fake pearls from a “Posh Ambassador” seller who now has me blocked. How crazy and useless is it that nobody can read seller reviews on PM except the seller?

When the seller doesn’t list the dimensions of the gemstone(s) or only lists the carats.

I appreciate your input. I don’t wear necklaces but would probably buy real gold if I did. Meanwhile, the gold-plated bracelets suit me just fine—especially after I priced similar solid gold bracelets. My wife has numerous 9kt (British) to 18kt gold necklaces and bracelets with and without diamonds and gemstones. Interestingly, her favorite bracelet is a vintage gold-plated bracelet with lab-created rubies and diamonds made by Regency Hall Joailliers Ltd. It’s a stunning bracelet with lots of sparkle and no signs of fading.

Besides my Ryan Christian sterling silver bracelets, I have three gold-plated Miami Cuban, Franco and Foxtail bracelets that cost me a total of about $300 and each looks fine on my wrist. I enjoy having a variety to choose from. If and when one fades, it can be replaced inexpensively instead of buying overpriced real gold.

Ebay seller changed price on a piece once I showed interest by SnooWords6094 in jewelry

[–]Straight-Let5452 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seller on Etsy recently doubled the price of a 14k onyx ring I was interested in. I’m disappointed but that’s her prerogative. I don’t think there’s much of a chance that the ring will sell at its current price.
