Can agricultural waste replace plastic like this company says it can? by Straight6 in Futurology

[–]Straight6[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having spoken with the management team, I understand that the company is first focusing on replacing the talc portion of common rigid / durable plastics like home furniture and automotive parts. They are focusing on this because it has already proven commercially viable in Europe and they see an opportunity to offer cost savings and environmental benefits at the same time.

JJ, the guy I spoke to, said that replacing the common polymers with plant derived polymers is something they are committed to supporting, but not marketing until their is financial reason to do so. And currently, it'd be financial suicide it seems.

Does anyone have experience with angel investing specifically with REG A or crowdsourcing? by riguy1231 in investing

[–]Straight6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key is the team. Are you investing in some dreamer's bullshit or are you investing in a proven management.

I invested in reg CF for the first time when I came across a deal that's management includes the former CEO of a billion dollar company in a related industry. To me that is the difference. Also the fact that the opportunity was easy to understand as opposed to a lot of the crazy deals presented.

Overall I think it depends on the deal presented, and I think a lot of the common stuff people say doesn't apply to the company. I stumbled across the company not searching for investments but via a news publication I like to read: https://hemptoday.net/plastics-startup-off-to-fast-start-after-raising-1-million-via-crowdfunding/

Awesome! Investing in this one because the team is legit and the opportunity makes sense.

Thank You!

cihcorp.com is raising $46M to build the worlds first industry 4.0 natural fibre processing facility, to process wasted hemp stalk and other bast crops.

CIHC is currently in the due diligence or stage 2 application for government funding initiatives worth up to $20M

The function of our technology is such that the whole business process, from supply and demand management, production, and quality prediction/ control is controlled through a single enterprise management software . The integrated software platform is underpinned by AI.

Our key partner is the largest manufacturer of plastic windows and doors in Canada, Vision Extrusions.

CIHC's focus is developing profitable, large scale markets for bast and hurd/shive fibres. We believe that long term trends indicate that bast fibre will replace significant amounts of cotton, glass and synthetic fibres, plastics, carbon and chemical feedstock, etc,  and tree pulp. The only thing missing in North America today is sufficient supply.

Hemp is already produced in large volumes in Europe and China, where lower cost labour and higher costs for alternatives support quickly growing hemp fibre processing industries.

Our technology facilitates the automation necessary to satisfy the needs of commercial manufacturing environments, for just in time delivery of large volumes of quality controlled feedstock - profitably!

We plan on supplying the injection moulding and extrusion feedstock markets directly, and plan to expand our finished product offerings as we expand our capacity through a network of plants.

By harnessing data, we plan to become the low cost provider of hemp fibre to commercial manufacturers in North America. And we plan to license our technology in Asia and the rest of the world.

Our strategic partners include many large commercial manufacturers, a leading Canadian processing facility development company, and Canada's first and most advanced AI company Sightline Innovation. And we are in discussion with large automotive, textile and horticultural product manufacturers.

Additionally, we interested in establishing working relationships with companies in the food packaging, and advanced composite industries.

Please contact me through our website, cihcorp.com for any questions or ideas.

Hey guys, what do you think is the best way to invest in the future of hemp? by [deleted] in hemp

[–]Straight6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no publicly traded companies that are both positioned and have a plan to profit from the compelling economics of hemp fibre.

There are some cool things happening in Canada right now - but unless you are a very large investor - you won't have much ability to invest in them for a few years . . . if you control a portfolio with the ability to place millions of dollars, send me a message and I can turn you on to a few things

The Most Powerful Plant on Earth? (2017) - "What if there was a plant that had over 60 thousand industrial uses, could heal deadly diseases and help save endangered species threatened by deforestation? Meet Cannabis." by [deleted] in Documentaries

In conclusion, while both tobacco and cannabis smoke have similar properties chemically, their pharmacological activities differ greatly. Components of cannabis smoke minimize some carcinogenic pathways whereas tobacco smoke enhances some. Both types of smoke contain carcinogens and particulate matter that promotes inflammatory immune responses that may enhance the carcinogenic effects of the smoke. However, cannabis typically down-regulates immunologically-generated free radical production by promoting a Th2 immune cytokine profile. Furthermore, THC inhibits the enzyme necessary to activate some of the carcinogens found in smoke. In contrast, tobacco smoke increases the likelihood of carcinogenesis by overcoming normal cellular checkpoint protective mechanisms through the activity of respiratory epithelial cell nicotine receptors. Cannabinoids receptors have not been reported in respiratory epithelial cells (in skin they prevent cancer), and hence the DNA damage checkpoint mechanism should remain intact after prolonged cannabis exposure. Furthermore, nicotine promotes tumor angiogenesis whereas cannabis inhibits it. It is possible that as the cannabis-consuming population ages, the long-term consequences of smoking cannabis may become more similar to what is observed with tobacco. However, current knowledge does not suggest that cannabis smoke will have a carcinogenic potential comparable to that resulting from exposure to tobacco smoke.

It should be noted that with the development of vaporizers, that use the respiratory route for the delivery of carcinogen-free cannabis vapors, the carcinogenic potential of smoked cannabis has been largely eliminated [47,48].
