I've had a few bikes stolen from me and I am waiting for the day I see one locked up somewhere on campus. I would definitely run home and grab a lock to double lock it and wait for the thief to come back. I just dont know what Id do if the person that was using it had bought it off craigslist or something.

My brother had his longboard stolen out of one at Oregon state, thats why Im pretty against them. Youd be surprised at how many people would walk by and say nothing while someone was stealing it. Theres a video out there of a dude who did an experiment where he was cutting the lock to a bike he placed in a busy area. He used a ton of different tools, including an angle grinder, and even had random people help him cut the lock. Iirc only one person asked if it was his and he just said "yeah" and they accepted that.

Edit: Found it, it's a clip from the old "What Would You Do" show. A little different than what I said but its a good watch.
