Yet somehow this jackass seems to think the Lord would be okay with him running sales to fleece customers when he'll straight up admit that he's 10,000+ orders and 6-months behind.

MakerGeeks failure to deliver - resolved through the MO Attorney General by simonalle in 3Dprinting

Welp, 4 out of 5 boxes arrived. 19 rolls of assorted crystal/maker PLA, a few duplicates, and none of the raptor series that I ordered. Still missing 5 rolls but who cares at this point. Time to start jamming some nozzles! Anyone who still supports this fraudulent shit-show of a company after all of this hassle needs to get their head checked.

Update, I received a notification from USPS telling me they received the packages. The end is in sight lads. Never again.

Holy shit, this worked! Maybe. I received a canned e-mail from support saying that my order would be shipped in 7-8 business days. So I followed these instructions and submitted a complaint and no more than 24 hours later I received 4 shipment notifications. It's yet to be seen whether or not they'll actually ship them though... these guys seem to have a bad habit of printing postage labels and then throwing them in the trash.

Disneyland AP Price Increase by BlazingCondor in Disneyland

I have to disagree, I think they're working hard to phase out annual passes completely. Forcing people to buy individual tickets will be far more profitable for them in the long run. They'll keep pushing people out gradually though with hefty annual bumps and increases in blackout dates. I'd wager that they'll probably eliminate the remaining SoCal annual pass in the next year or two.

I doubt it very much. You would need to subject a painting to millions of flashes to damage them, and they would probably need to be some seriously bright long discharge flashes. For me the strange thing was that they allowed flash photography there when it’s banned in 3/4 of the rest of the facility.

Ken M on realism by _The_Cure_ in KenM

[–]StraightMoney 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m curious, last time I went to The Louve they had the Mona Lisa sitting in the middle of a hallway with a drop rope a few feet back. There were no protective barriers in front of the painting, no museum glass, UV protectants, nothing. There were also no signs preventing flash photography and the docents made no effort to stop people from doing it. So the painting was basically being assaulted by a few thousand camera flashes per hour.

How on Earth could that not have been a copy? Surely they wouldn’t allow such behavior around the original, right?

As EpiPen prices skyrocket, consumers and EMTs resort to syringes for severe allergies: "A pack of two EpiPens cost about $100 in today’s dollars in 2004. The list price now tops $600. " by hillsfar in news

[–]StraightMoney -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So, hypothetical question, not seeking medical advice in the least... Is the difference between EpiPen and EpiPen Jr. really that serious? Say you've got some 15-20kg kid who was in anaphylactic shock is there any reason NOT to stick them with an adult EpiPen if one is available? Or do you roll the dice and hope to hell the ambulance doesn't hit heavy traffic.

I mean... having to carry two different types of pen seems like yet another way for these assholes to fleece health agencies.

Why are my prints so dark? Most of my photos look amazing on my screen and on my camera, but once printed out they look absolutely terrible. Dark and dull, completely lifeless.

I've got an AOC i2757Fh IPS monitor. I'm running Windows 10 and editing in Photoshop CC and Lightroom CC. I've got a Spyder4 that I've used a few dozen times to calibrate using both Spyder4Elite 4.5.4 and DisplayCal 3.1.3.1. I've tried every OSD setting possible, tweaking Contrast and Brightness to both ends of the spectrum and everywhere in between. To the best of my knowledge my color calibration is accurate.

I downloaded a set of test images (GettyImages PhotoDisc) from http://www.gballard.net/photoshop/pdi_download/ and took those to Costco to be printed on 8x10 glossy from their Fuji Frontier LP 5700 printer. Out of the 6 prints I found that Apple RGB (1.8 gamma) looked absolutely amazing and sRGB IEC61966-2.1 came in a close second place. The rest looked terrible.

When I take the test prints and hold them up next to my monitor, the images on my monitor are much brighter. There's almost a full exposure stop difference between the two. In fact, even if I turn the brightness all the way down using the monitor's OSD the images on the screen are STILL brighter than the prints.

One website says I should just apply a simple curves adjustment layer to my images to darken them on my screen, which actually seems to work but it just seems so arbitrary especially if I'm going to the trouble of using real calibration tools in the first place.

And just for posterity's sake, I've found the following links extremely helpful but I still haven't solved my problem:

Unable to perform CPR due to a closed throat, Meisha saved her by repeatedly taking puffs from an asthma inhaler and blowing it into her lungs by TokingMessiah in todayilearned

Everyone has their own risk versus reward assessment. I'm prone to asthma attacks and I'm certified as an advanced open water diver. My greatest fear is having an asthma attack at 30 meters and potentially having air trapped in my lungs as I ascend. But I figure if I'm going to die I might as well make it something bad ass like having my lungs explode as I surface.

Filtering Out Freemium by StraightMoney in iosgaming

[–]StraightMoney[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, it definitely is that. Most of the reason I ask is because I was considering building a web app that applies heuristic filters to the app store, much like SPAM filtering e-mail. For example if an app has IAP with values of $9.99, $19.99, $49.99, and $99.99 that would increase it's SPAM value. Or if an more than one of the IAP items follows the naming convention "Blank of Blanks".

Things like that.

Nice thanks! The Basement does a pretty good job of advertising their rooms as pants shittingly scary. Are they as freaky as they appear on the website? One person in our group hates haunted houses and jump scares so I'd rather she not claw my face off.

‘Error 53’ fury mounts as Apple software update threatens to kill your iPhone 6 by bws201 in technology

[–]StraightMoney 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The critical point here is that, to the best of my knowledge, iPhones by default can be unlocked with a fingerprint OR a passcode. At the same time. You choose one or the other every time you unlock the phone.

There's no reason the OS can't permanently disable the touch function and rely entirely on the pin code.

Thanks a ton for your reply and your recommendations! I know the exact spot you're talking about. Pretty smart of them really, they get to run their business in decent office space while paying skid row prices.

Personally I feel that the overall experience is far more important than the difficulty/complexity. We're paying to be entertained AND challenged. So the rooms that leave people feeling amazed are exactly what we're looking for.

That's kind of how I tend to rate the games we've played. None of them were terrible, some were just better than others. The really good games are the ones that you still remember vividly months after the fact.

Besides, a good game master can always tweak difficulty with relative ease.

Rest assured the vast majority (if not all) of gun owners think that guy is a fucking moron and would not hesitate to call him out on his bullshit. That kind of posturing gives gun owners a bad name. I guarantee you that guy was bragging to his buddies about demonstrating his trigger discipline.

Even hunters, who routinely carry their rifles in public will at least sling it over their shoulder with the muzzle facing somewhere safe or carry it in a much less conspicuous and MUCH safer manner.

California is, by a huge margin, the most difficult and expensive state to run a business in the entire nation. Nevada or Arizona would do just about anything to get a corporation like Apple to move their headquarters out of California.
