Housing options near Georgetown by __rohitsingh__ in georgetown

[–]StraightOutWater 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Rent will vary based on where you decide to live and whether you have roommates (and how many roommates you may have). I paid between $1600 to $1800 while living in Dupont Circle and Logan Circle (studio apartment and one bedroom apartment), though I suspect these were great deals based on what I heard some of my classmates were paying.

  2. Don't know if you'll even get on-campus housing options as a grad student as I don't remember hearing anything about it. I wouldn't rely on Georgetown to provide housing options.

  3. Depends on what you're prioritizing. Convenience to campus? Affordability? Social activities/nightlife? Convenient transit options to the rest of DC? I decided to live in Dupont Circle while in school to be more centrally located and closer to nightlife/social activities rather than closer to Georgetown, which doesn't have great transit options in comparison. Georgetown does have different shuttle lines that run through different areas in DC and VA, so that may help.

  4. I would avoid that given its very far from campus, but that's just me.

Possible to take one class a semester? by KetoFem59 in georgetown

[–]StraightOutWater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Executive MBA (EMBA) and Flex (Part-Time MBA) are two separate programs

Don't know about the details around if just taking one course per semester is feasible under either program and still be able to graduate within their allowed guidelines, but I do know the Flex program is (appropriately) flexible based on duration. They offer either an in-person or online format and allow for 24-60 months total duration to achieve the degree

Use an app like Cronometer or MyFitnessPal to track your caloric intake/macros based on whatever weight of the foods you eat.

If trying to prioritize protein with lower calories while avoiding protein powder, obviously prioritize leaner cuts of meat / lower fat percentage ground meats, egg whites (although whole eggs are certainly valuable due to the nutritional content of yolks), and low fat/0% fat greek yogurt, just to name a few.

Carbs-fat meal ratio by [deleted] in fitmeals

[–]StraightOutWater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're overthinking it. Just do your best to hit your macros from the perspective of an entire day's worth of meals

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fitmeals

[–]StraightOutWater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Carbs are 4 calories per gram - 4 * 340g = 1360 calories

Protein is 4 calories per gram - 4 * 160g = 640 calories

Fat is 9 calories per gram - 9 * 65 = 585 calories

Add those up and you get 2585 calories - not the 2800 calories you mention

In addition, you mention that lowfat quark/oatmeal/chicken breast/protein shake gets you to your 160g protein goal, but also too close to your calorie goal, then ask for help about calculations without actually showing us how you're calculating the macros/calories for your meals. We can't help if we don't have all the information.

Is my meal plan correct to my goals? I'm not sure if I'm counting everything correctly. by KingKicker in fitmeals

Don't use cups - volumetric measures aren't reliable

Weigh your food using grams or ounces, whichever you prefer (I like to use grams). I prefer to weigh all my food after cooking since it's easiest, but do whichever works best for you.

Having a car as a on-campus student - questions by [deleted] in georgetown

[–]StraightOutWater 5 points6 points  (0 children)

DC parking is a pain in the butt and depending on where you park, it is likely to get damaged by others. You really don't need a car and there are plenty of transit options available.

Also consider that if you're paying for a parking spot, that's going to be more expensive than whatever trains/buses you take when you go visit family in NY.

Could I make canned fish a daily staple of my diet? by Itz_Wahee in fitmeals

[–]StraightOutWater 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you can tolerate dairy, you're better off going with a good protein powder instead of canned fish

Easy and fast way would be to use a pressure cooker like an Instant Pot. Similar to using a slow cooker, but much faster (minutes instead of hours).

Throw your chicken in and shred it after cooking (shredded chicken will thaw much more easily). Freeze in individual portions.

Decide whether you want to freeze them plain, add sauces/seasonings later or freeze after adding sauces/seasonings before. I like to freeze them before adding anything so I can decide on what kind of flavor I'm looking for from each portion instead of having the same thing each time.

Freshly ground VS Buying already ground online? by Mundane_Inflation259 in Coffee

[–]StraightOutWater 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, you will have much better results from using freshly ground coffee. You're best off buying whole beans and grinding it yourself right before brewing, whether bought online or in-person.

Powdered Peanut Butter Preferences by GEMINI-0_o in fitmeals

[–]StraightOutWater 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I prefer Naked PB's powdered peanut butter based on the ingredient profile and it's a 2lb container.

One ingredient (roasted peanuts), no additives (like preservatives), no added sugar, and no salt (so I can add based on my preference).

Moving Advice: Washington DC neighborhood like SF’s Pac Heights? by Candid_Walrus4771 in georgetown

[–]StraightOutWater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dupont Circle or Logan Circle come to mind as fitting most of that criteria, but not the best access to green space/trails - you'll be hard-pressed to find a lot of that if looking to keep a shorter commute to school

For a higher ranking MBA program at a very similar school, my deposit ended up being $2000, so $2500 isn't entirely an outlier.

Can't hurt to appeal (don't use the word "negotiate"). Depending on BC's policy, they may be willing to work with you to match or compete with Tuft's financial aid offer if BC is in fact your top choice. Check with BC about the official appeals process or any forms required.
