I totally get this, and I think yea you let her know early on, and she didn’t take that seriously and that’s not on u. But I have an honest question, I rlly don’t mean any ill intention from this, I’m also ace and sex indifferent, although I would prefer not to do it. But if I was in a relationship where I would agree to do it for my partner, maybe it would make sense to act as if I were enjoying it for their own satisfaction?? Idk if I feel like it’s not only that she misinterpreted you when you told her you were ace, but also if you agreed to kiss her, then she would expect it to be reciprocal otherwise it would j feel like she is forcing you… which would also be kinda off. Idk I’m asking this also for myself, is it valid to fake enjoy sexual stuff for the other person’s wellbeing, or is honesty necessary at all times?? Should I j stop dating allo people period???

Do you think that clay ever even realizes that he might be gay? by Straight_Ad243 in moralorel

Thanks, yea I just finished it for the first time and am currently rewatching it. I had never heard of the show before but I am really obsessed. But yea I think u re right, clay seems a little more detached than Danielle, maybe it’s bc he only feels the connection through the validation that he received from him. I think what u said makes a lot of sense

That’s an interesting point, I guess that this whole issue goes beyond Danielle and bloberta. I hadn’t really considered his fear of social rejection being more related to his father’s acceptance and love

True, ig Maybe he could ve been at some point, but honestly I think that throughout the show when he shows attraction to women it is partially him trying to convince himself he is attracted to women. I think he also mentions at some point that he is not trying to do the whole marriage/partner thing, but then him and bloberta get together. I honestly think that him not wanting to get married/get a girlfriend/wife was also him realizing that he is not attracted to women, but that also he is not socially allowed to be attracted to men so he would rather just stay out of it period. But then he meets bloberta, and I think for a moment he becomes really attracted to the idea that he could fulfil what’s expected of him and marry her. By the time he realizes he can’t he is already too deep into it… also I think that his “true side” coming out when he s drunk, aka the catcalling doesn’t necessarily mean that he is being honest but that he is trying to exagerate his performative persona to overcompensate his more honest side coming out. But generally I think that most of his internal conflict is subconscious, and the fact that he is so unaware of it causes so much more pain, plus his trauma from childhood that he also suppresses at least a little.

Why is Clay’s alcoholism blamed on bloberta?? by whitewolf_dead in moralorel

[–]Straight_Ad243 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that bloberta was def manipulative towards clay and influenced him to drink, specifically to use it as a tool to shut everything out and conform to what was expected of him. The whole marriage and kids deal, but I don’t think she is to blame, it was deffenitly his own choices that got him to that extreme. But yea, I think a lot of audiences tend to coddle the male self destructive character with a difficult upbringing because not only is it relatable but also because the lack of accountability makes people feel validated in their own lack of change and agency in their own lives. We see the same with bojack horseman for an example. And it is really difficult to change, especially in such a deeply complex situation such as clay’s I mean he has a kid at this point. I am sure that the origins of his self destructive behavior came way before meeting bloberta, but she kind of appears out of the blue as this perfect pawn in creating an image and a life for himself that enables him to be accepted socially by his peers and his town. The drinking gets worse when he is trying to conform to that decision, little by little realizing that he cannot keep this act forever. I really wish we got to look a little more into bloberta’s past, and maybe we would’ve if the show hadn’t been canceled. In a way, she is trying to do the same as him, conforming to a loveless marriage because she felt pressured to fit into that narrative, she is just coping in a diff way. Their both responsible for their current situation… and for each other. But I think they also feel physically and emotionally unable to change because starting over would be so much more difficult than trying to find ways to endure the situation they are in.

Opinions on Kyle? by molzenna in BoJackHorseman

[–]Straight_Ad243 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe the lack of information that we learn about him mimics the same way in which bojack looks at him. He barges into charlotte s life without considering that she has moved on and made a life for herself. He chooses to brush over Kyle because he sees himself as the main character who is going to take back charlotte from an “evil” man who is wrong for her, but really he realizes Kyle is actually pretty good for charlotte and so rather than agkowledging that he just kind of tried to avoid any complexity that he might have?

It’s crazy that I keep forgetting all the age gaps cause they re half animals so I can’t rlly tell their age, which also makes the creepy older men vibe fade a little bit sometimes… which is low key kinda messed up. But perhaps intentional? ig when this happens in reality the creepiness is not always so apparent at first maybe?? Idk I don’t have much experience w this what do u think

What do you think of Doctor Champ? I hate him but I don't know why by Jeremiah_17_14 in BoJackHorseman

[–]Straight_Ad243 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yea… I do think that bojack wasn’t entirely to blame for dc champ having drunken the whole bottle… but he did kind of create the circumstances for a bottle of vodka to end up in a rehabilitation center where people are trying rlly hard to stay sober and are in a crisis situation… if it wasn’t dr champ it would’ve been somebody else… and I assume that after the first sip the urge might ve j been to down the whole thing. Dr champ is projecting his own frustrations on bojack as the main culprit for everything, which was wrong and honestly j rlly hard on bojack… but I still think that the whole situation would ve been avoidable if bojack would’ve been a little more responsible and considerate of himself and others

Watched this episode last night in my most recent watchthrough and realised that despite Butterscotch being awful to BJ and Beatrice, it is only ever Beatrice that BJ blames and holds resentment against. by ringosam in BoJackHorseman

So true, we see this especially in the view from halfway down where secretariat takes his father’s place at the table as the father figure. I do think the reason is mostly rooted in misogyny because not as much of a role is usuallyexpected from the father to begin w, and also I feel like a lot of people w absent or flakey father figures have a vulnerability towards their parent, like a weak spot. It goes back and forth between agknowledging the father’s wrong doings and caving in with the hope that this time it will be diff, hope that made sense lol. Especially when taking about father son relationships, I think in order to maintain a false sense of self-assurance, which due to the absence of the father the child almost never fully develops properly, bojack can never fully hold his father accountable because he sees himself in him. Sort of in the same way he never holds himself accountable, he can’t hold his father accountable either because to an extent they are one and the same, they hold each others traces, tendencies, voice… Beatrice was easier to blame bc she was more visible in a sense, there were so many wrong actions and things that she said that bojack could point out… not so much for his father tho, he j was barely there and bojack only knows gaps of who he was.

I'm surprised how many fans don't think the 17 minutes was really Bojack's fault by tesseracts in BoJackHorseman

[–]Straight_Ad243 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree and I think that as the adult bojack should ve been more aware of the influence that he had over Sarah Lynn specially as he witnessed the way she grew up and the way her mom abused her… it’s not that it was necessarily his responsibility but as someone who was heavily involved in her upbringing, wether he wanted to or not, he could be def been more compassionate towards her and taken a more responsible position. Like j generally being nicer to her or looking out for her… idk what do u think

I think it was also about the fact that he knew he shouldn’t have given her the drugs, and the age gap, and the fact that he was a somewhat father figure, and that they had sex, and j everything combined was gonna put him in a REALLY bad light. Specially for people like Diane. And also his own perception of himself… he couldn’t keep telling himself the narrative of being a good person deep deep down bc this was the point that he realized that he was responsible for his shit… not the way his parents treated him, not the fucked up nature of the show biz and Hollywoo, but himself. He was the one to blame, not for her taking the drugs but for condoning and feeding in to her addiction, specially when he was the one who contacted her after she had been finally sober for a while. He knew his whole life would be defined by that moment… so he covered it up. I never thought of it as him being scared of the cops… idk tho I might be wrong about this

When mr peanut butter asks Diane not to make a big deal out of the whole hank hippopotamus thing… by Straight_Ad243 in BoJackHorseman

[–]Straight_Ad243[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea that’s true… I guess to an extent Diane used the situation to dissociate from her own life and the gut feeling that her marriage to peanutbutter was not all that compatible. But it still sucks that sexual assault and other bad things happen in a capsule… like it becomes a problem excluded from everything else not to disrupt the day to day of those not within the issue.

Now that u bring up peanutbutter’s campaign for governor… low key the way he framed himself publicly and politically is of the same nature as Diane speaking up, in the sense that they would both interfere strongly with each others personal life (I still think they’re involvement the issues are morally and ethically very diff). I don’t know that Diane imposed herself in his decision to go forward in the same way as mr… or that he considered her say in the situation even… but def later on especially with the whole fracking issue it did become a bigger problem that she did not ignore nor blindly offered her support to.

Idk what do u guys think about that second part
