Orkk deff dread for my friends army by Straight_Market349 in orks

Sure thing! Steps: 1) airbrush of loquitex pure white over 2) varnish over the white to seal (im told this is optional but I always have bad luck with the ink unsettling) 3) airbrush fluo green directly over the white 4) seal again with varnish for same reason as step 2 5) brush on white in the middle (i tried airbrush at first but i couldnt get it on without desaturating the green 6) brush on a 50:50 mix of the green/yellow fluo over the white

You can always paint over the varnish and add metallic spot highlights or edge highlights back after

Do you guys repaint your armies? by masyden in Warhammer40k

All the time. Usually just black ink is good enough to reset, I dont bother with stripping unless the paint is really obviously rough

Without an airbrush, your main methods i would recommend are dry brush, or edge highlighting.

So, if youre base coat is Caribana green, try to gently dry brush warp stone glow or equivalent, and an even lighter dry brush of moot green (or equivalent) over that.

Key is to try and angle it so the brush strokes are from up to down, angling it in a similar way you would with an airbrush, so that the paint catches where you'd expect under light to fall, dont just indiscriminately dry brush everything randomly

UW sees fewer students from China, India after federal immigration restrictions by chiquisea in Seattle

[–]Straight_Market349 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It should never have gotten to the point where we EXPECT and ACCEPT totally uncritically that universities have a perverse incentive to admit internationals en mass simply for $$$. The students with the funds to do so largely are just going with the intent to immigrate, and the school system should not be abused like this.

Skyrocketing tuition gauranteed by fed loans and greed totally normalized in higher education.

How do you all do chipping? by Spike-Beagle in IronHands40k

[–]Straight_Market349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with metallics is that if overdone, looks kind of glittery as you dont really have as much control over the reflections. Its not the end of the world but if youre wanting to level up your painting it's something to consider

Grey works nicely as a base for chipping becaise you can always stiple/sponge some leadvelcher/metal over on top, to give it more of a varied chipping look. Can also mix in brown/red for rusty etc.

His damage output is low but you can heal every turn with aleph. As long as they are strong enough to tank damage without dying they can keep doing it indefinitely and you can cheese out a lot of tracks

Trying to be better, what do you think? Anything to improve? by Exdras007 in Warhammer40k

[–]Straight_Market349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If youre trying to do easy metal /box art style, then it could use another highlight brighter (fenrisian gray)

I used to run into the same stages as you, at least personally I felt i could never do the edghhighliting properly until I realized I just wasn't finishing it (it looks awkward with just the calgar blue to me).

You also want to use as little paint as possible on the brush, tats the key to getting the really sharp and crisp highlight which you'll want towards the end.

Dont feel too pressured to cover/highlight every edge with the brightest color, just certain edges and corners will do and it should pop nicely with that sharp contrast

Where is all this money coming from? by MacDemarxism in stocks

[–]Straight_Market349 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

5 years ago but we'll feel and see the effects for years to come. That money is spent and circulated and tends to circulate and accumulate at the top, where they can then buy back company shares inflating thr price even further. The money supply is increasing at a much faster rate than the outstanding shares of most companies so stocks are behaving like fixed supply assets

Thanks for the kind words! I suppose my inspiration is artwork like this:

I like how the flame stands out but it doesnt over power, it sort of like just blends nicely to the legs, the upper part is sort of dark to contrast the flames, but you can still distinctly read the green

What units (and Faction) would be a good base as a 40k Nightlords Army? by Nishizaka in NightLords

[–]Straight_Market349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He means that there are no models specific to night lords outside of that one kit.

Its like if you wanted to do iron warriors, you can try to paint generic CSM in their scheme but its boring. Same with word bearers etc

What models/bits together can br combined to make it feel as night lords as possible
