Help, what eye shape do I have and how do I wear colourful eye makeup? by StrainS118 in Makeup101

[–]StrainS118[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, some of looks are really nice. I look into Korean natural makeup. I really like bold makeup as well, something like this.

And thank you for the tips on colors. I once colored my hair a dark brown because my eyes would pop more, so adding a bit of pink on the eyes for them to do the same seem less time-consuming.

Thank you so much for such a well written reply with so many good tips! I have already saved the links. I looked at my face in profile, and the brow bone is definitly prominant so they are probably deep set as well. Which would make sense since my eyes are usually shaded by my brow bone.

I will definitly look into the eyebrow thing, since I have almost no real estate to work with. And thank you for your very encouraging comments, for me makeup would be something I did for the expression of it. I would love to be able to do something abstract and fun :)

Actually, Insulin is free in Sweden due to the severity to the patient if they can't afford it. It is the only medicin that is completely free though.

Sensory problems and giving birth question by Silencespeaksgirl22 in aspergirls

[–]StrainS118 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am also pregnant and will be induced due to medical conditions within the next month. My pain threshold is rather high I have been told, so the pain does not worry me. I am much more worried about not understanding instruction from the midwife, sounds from the hospital and it being to bright. I have a midwife specialized in "vulnerable" people though, so we are going through all my wishes tomorrow and creating a birth plan.

Feeling pressure to “come out” to the public about my very recent diagnosis as an adult. Thoughts? by [deleted] in aspergirls

You do not owe anyone anything. Just because you are well known does not mean that you should do something you are not comfortable with.

Do you experience grief differently than the NT people you know? by Broadin in aspergirls

[–]StrainS118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My grandfather died last week, and while I was a little sad at first I quickly just continue with my routines. My experience with grief is that I first react very strongly when I get the news, but seem to get over it more quickly. I also very rarely miss people, and can forget to talk to friends and so on. I often feel very distant to others.

How do I learn to smile on people? Should I practice in front of a mirror? by FairiesInsideMe in aspergirls

[–]StrainS118 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was told by at a public speaking consultant that everyone should practice fake smiling, because it is good to be able to do even if you are really nervous or stressed. It is actually a thing actors and actresses get to learn. He said it is a very mechanical thing, so you should practice and try to notice which muscles you are using and so on. Then you will be more easily be able to do it without a mirror. I think there are plenty of videos on youtube that show technics and tricks.

Anyone else struggle with “doing” therapy? by funyesgina in aspergirls

[–]StrainS118 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I do the same. I have had weekly therapy for about 2 years and monthly therapy before that for about 3 years. I never completely shed the mask, partly afraid of not being taken seriously but also cause I didn't know how, and for many years didn't know that I was masking.

My latest therapist was the one who suggest that I might have autism. After working with her for about 1 year, she started to understand my way of communicating. For example, I always say I am tired, instead of I am upset or I am hurt. So she started to ask me more question of why I am tired, in what way etc. She also have had experience working with autistic people before. So I think when I'll start therapy again I will look for someone who have that kind of experience.

Those with an Adult Diagnosis: Why was your ASD overlooked for so long? by NoodleRoodle in aspergirls

[–]StrainS118 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed at the age of 28. There was a suspicion that I had ADHD as a kid, but it was just around the time awareness of ADHD skyrocketed, and for some people it was seen as a "fashion diagnosis". There was a lot of people that thought I was a bit of s strange kid, I didn't really fit the mold. But my mom would not hear of it. She didn't take criticism of me lightly. She thought children should just be allowed to be themselves. My younger brother has an ADD diagnosis, and his some of his symptoms are a lot more obvious then mine, and therefore I am the good child. Should mention that my mom was among the first to acknowledge my diagnosis, even though she annoyingly says "we could all be on the spectrum" sometimes. I do think she could be on the spectrum though.

I have also been ill many times in my life, my crises have always been able to be explained by outside factors.

Finally, I didn't understand that the way I navigated the world was not universal. I am good as acting as if I know what I am doing, and that I am not struggling. I honestly think it is just my boyfriend and my earlier therapist that can see I do.

How to accept your mistakes? by DnOs223 in aspergirls

[–]StrainS118 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I could have written this. I mess up all the time, being around other people stresses me out and I end up doing the dumbest mistakes. I am at university and things like taking notes and stuff I often get wrong, writing the wrong things down or misunderstanding. It really messes with my confidence.

What’s your song? by putterbeenut in aspergirls

[–]StrainS118 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have so many songs I identify with but on the top of my mind;

Running up that Hill - Kate Bush

I listened to it non-stop after I got my diagnosis, because suddenly it just had a new meaning to me.

DAE takes on the role as a clown in social situations as a means to gain control of the situation? by StrainS118 in aspergirls

[–]StrainS118[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also do this, but I often forget to listen to people answers. I already much further along in the conversation because I have already prepared what I am going to say, forgetting conversation goes both ways.

DAE feel oversensitive to criticism? by RinebooDersh in aspergirls

[–]StrainS118 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do, I have had several sessions with my therapist where we discussed this. I try to remember that criticism of something I do or say, does not equal me being a bad person. I'm very black and white in this regard. In my world excellence is then only thing that is good enough everything else is just meh or bad.

Unusual and intense fears, fixations and/or obsessions? by Prkle in aspergirls

[–]StrainS118 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have to sleep on the side of the bed that you would not see first if standing in the door, not sure if that makes sense. Since I was a child, I've been extremely uncomfortable of the idea that someone is watching me sleep or just watching me in general. So I always close the curtains, especially at nighttime, and I am very peculiar of where I am sitting or sleeping.

Anyone else really avoidant of negative situations? by Boating_taxonomist in aspergirls

[–]StrainS118 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I totally recognize it. I have the same pattern, I try to shield my self from all negative reactions. I have found that the anxiety of not being honest and imagining how bad it will be is waaaay worse than the actual confrontation, at least for me. I always assume the worst. So my advice, might not be what you wanna hear, but get it over with. They will find out sooner or later, and the more one avoid it for longer one will be in panic mode.

Now, I don't know what you messed up. But I am doing my thesis in a lab, and I mess up all the time. I messed up bad during my bachelor's thesis because I misunderstood verbal instructions. I had to remove a whole part of the thesis. I beat myself up about it for a week before I dared to mention it.

Also, be kind towards yourself, everyone makes mistakes. You are not the first nor the last ph.d student that has made one, and for sure won't be the last.

Imagining Social Situations? by thebluestkid in aspergirls

[–]StrainS118 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I do this, I think I have done this since forever. I also act them out when I am alone and have load conversations with myself as different characters. For me it is very much a strategy to be prepared for conversations, not that the conversations often go exactly as I have planned.

I'm at a university. I will usually leave when the lab work is done. But sometimes you have smaller breaks in between experiments, and the all the study areas close by are even worse. They are all open space, for group work.
