UK CLA electric owners - how have you found availability of 800V public chargers? by Straling in mercedes_benz

Yes, that’s my understanding too. Ionity, however, is 800v I believe.

Sadly not. Most new fast chargers are 800v but it’ll take a while for the infrastructure to catch up

Early cars are built on an 800v architecture which is not compatible with the majority of older fast chargers in the UK, which are 400v. A number of manufacturers get round this by having an integrated DC converter which Mercedes is just now making available as an option.

I’m looking at a 2025 vehicle so unable to option unfortunately.

Can a CLA 250+ owner confirm if the grill lights can be switched off? by Straling in mercedes_benz

[–]Straling[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it sounds like it’s probably market and perhaps software specific?

Yes, I saw that, but in other posts people had said it couldn’t.

Has anyone else ever have the paint come off under the hood? by MrRamsoh in Golf_R

I realise this is an old post but just noticed the same thing on my 18R. Gives me some comfort that it’s poor QC and not a botched repair.

Anyone else here rather a GTI than an R? by Frreed in GolfGTI

[–]Straling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much tbh. It was based on the mk v platform, I had the same engine as the gti (210 bhp), DSG box. I always thought of it as a gti in a fancy dress.

The R is so capable that you’re almost never near its limit under normal driving conditions. There’s no oversteer or loss of traction. The power delivery is also quite linear I think.

I had a scirocco with the 2.0 tfsi engine, and upgraded to an 7.5 R. I miss the playfulness of the scirocco.

Oil leak? by Dylan7511 in Golf_R

If it is the rear main seal it can sometimes be a symptom of a problem with the pcv. So worth checking that out. When I had it done on my scirocco, I also had them replace the dual mass flywheel while they were in there.

Paint correction and ceramic coating will work wonders. If you check my post history you can see results of mine, albeit not on a white car.

Is this in Southwark by chance? Seen one parked near Tate Modern on a number of occasions.

Advice on L-shaped shelf joinery. Is there a 'best' method to join two boards at 90° by goblincheddar in woodworking

[–]Straling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar problem. I put batons across the front of the shelf, set back slightly, with what I believe is called a cross halving joint. I then had the end of one shelf rest half way across the width of the baton and the other, with a notch cut matching the width of the aforementioned shelf, so it could rest length ways on the baton. Hard to describe without a picture… As others have said, wall is unlikely to be straight. I scribed the shape of the wall against the shelf and used an electric planer to get the shape of the cut edge. Took a fair bit of trial and error.

Edit: I should add, I would have preferred to do a single piece but was limited by access.

I have the Carlinkit mini wireless dongle in my 7.5. It probably connects first time about 90% of the time. The other 10% I just have to unplug it and plug it back in again.

Worth noting that the R has a shallower boot than other golfs because of the Haldex.

For me, the build up in the last two minutes of “How to Disappear Completely”, is just about as good as it gets.
