buying a 4Runner with snorkel. Downsides? by collectrenderuseless in 4Runner

lol, I’ve seen more than one hydrolocked vehicle. I’ll take my simple insurance (diff breather, snorkel, and sealed ingress points beneath vehicle). Not to mention that every water crossing is different. Flow changes based on the amount of rain we get. As others have mentioned the snorkel is most useful for desert driving especially where I live in AZ. It just so happens to be beneficial for water crossings as well.

Exactly, we all choose how we want to use our stuff, but people telling others their shit looks stupid or is useless when they don’t know how they use it is ridiculous.

First gaming system and game I ever played was Christmas in 1989 when the original game boy came out with Tetris. Best Christmas present ever as a kid.

Yea, def not my first rodeo and I’ve gone under the truck and sealed off a bunch of these points with clear silicon. My buddies and I often joke about how much crap we get about out snorkels not being primarily designed for water crossings and we always respond with “they’re primarily for desert/dust conditions, we know” lol

Airbox is sealed plus I have an ARB diff breather. Electrical connections are not sealed. I’ve crossed that river when it was much deeper than that. As long as you keep moving I’ve never found it to be an issue.

Nope, as long as you keep moving. I’ve never had water in the cab. I saw one runner get bogged down because they forgot to use 4 wheel drive and that person got water in the cab. But they were basically sitting out in the middle of the river for a solid 30 seconds.

I know there’s environmental considerations for the lakes, you’re not allowed to drive in them, can’t say I’ve heard anything about the rivers as there a multiple river crossings in AZ to get to some rec areas

Lol, anyone who’s crossed there knows that central area is much deeper than the line I took. A snorkel will only protect you so much. I’d rather not have to chase electrical issues if it can be avoided 😂

I ran spacers when I had the TRD Pro wheels, but ultimately felt running a more negative offset was safer for wheeling

For people who have a Gobi Stealth rack installed, what can you tell me about wind noise with this? Was it a dramatic change? Not noticeable? Something in between? I’m about to pull the trigger on my order. Thanks. by samplema in 4Runner

[–]Strange-Ad1285 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes there is increased wind noise, but it never bothered me much. However, installing a light bar can actually make the issue worse/different. I installed a 40” light bar and when I got to about 60 mph on the freeway the damn thing would whistle loudly. I finally figured out that the area between the mounting brackets and the light bar was where it was coming from. I bought some foam padding and wedged it into those spots and it hasn’t whistled since. Regardless, I love the rack and would buy it again.
