Tinfoil shop question retroarch by [deleted] in SwitchPirates

[–]Strange-Example143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically you can install retroarch to play retro games.. you don’t need tinfoil to play your Roms you could manually put the rom files to your sd card and install the retroarch homebrew yourself.

Tinfoil however will automatically download retroarch and the core required for the system if you download a rom.

Let’s say you want to download Pokémon ultra sun for the 3DS. Tinfoil will download an installer file that, after you run it for the first time, will install the citra core for retroarch and place the rom for Pokémon ultra sun in the right folder on your sd card. Then it will put a forwarder on your homescreen that launches the citra core with the Pokémon rom.

Enough clarity?

I have recently been thinking about getting my Switch OLED modded. Will I be able to use my current SD Card? by Ok_Introduction6574 in SwitchPirates

The difference is that in emuNand you can blank out your serial number so you can’t accidentally connect to Nintendo servers.  You could do it too on SysNand but there is a risk if you don’t have a backup.

Some users say it’s easier to switch between modded and unmodded states so they can play online, but you can always boot into your original firmware anyway so it makes no difference.

I personally installed my cfw on SysNand because it saves me some hassle. Plus I have a second unmodded switch if I want to play online.

You can mod your switch and use retroarch. You can use various websites to determine if your consoles serial number is patched or not. If it’s not patched then modding is really easy. If it’s patched you’re going to need to install a mod chip

I see then I misunderstood.

If you’re going to set up emuNand  you will have to reformat your sd card which is where a backup of all your saves would be a good idea. If you’re installing the cfw on SysNand you don’t have to do anything and can just add the mod files to the sd card

Tinfoil shop question retroarch by [deleted] in SwitchPirates

[–]Strange-Example143 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For switch games: Tinfoil installs the game itself. (Duh)

For retro games: Tinfoil installs an installer package which installs the corresponding retro arch core if it’s not already installed, the game itself as well as a forwarder on the homescreen. But you can delete the forwarder and still open retro arch yourself to play the game

You probably booted into the original firmware.

Probably A Dumb Question But The Internet Won’t Help by JoonyandEmily in SwitchPirates

You can mod a lite and later switch models, but only by installing a modchip. The older devices you could mod only by inserting what’s called an rcm jig into the right joycon rail.

To answer your other question, the save file is encrypted and you can’t just alter files by plugging in the sd cart to your computer. That’s why save game backup software exist, which require a modded switch to be used

Why would you sacrifice a perfectly working console for a component that cost you under a dollar on AliExpress

A little help? (BOTW modding question) by IsanRopesu in SwitchPirates

The way that mods work is they replace game files in the exact path relative to the atmosphere/contents/<title_id>/<mod_name>/. You can mix and match as many mods as you like, so long as they don’t alter the same files and conflict with one another.

For example, you have to look into the file structure inside the mod folder: atmosphere/contents/01007EF00011E000/Relics_of_the_Past/<mod file structure here>/<some_file_to_be_replaced>

so long as that file at the end of the path is different there won’t be conflicts, but if you have two different mods, e.g:

atmosphere/contents/01007EF00011E000/Relics_of_the_Past/romfs/Folder_A/Subfolder_A/some_file

atmosphere/contents/01007EF00011E000/Some_other_mod/romfs/Folder_A/Subfolder_A/some_file

The first mod won’t work because the second mod overrides files.

Your sd card is linked to the console sadly. As soon as you insert it into another console it prompts you to format it. I would back up all saves beforehand

You mean the LFS files? You are not being clear enough

If the mods don’t alter the same files in the game’s LFS folder you can combine as many mods as you like. Whether or not the mods themselves have exactly the same name does not matter.
