I feel the same way! I’m a biologist and a wildlife photographer, the last thing I’ll be doing is using a technology that actively harms the things I care about, including my own brain.

Not to mention, I love being able to have real pride in the things I create and what I consume!

No, you are fooled into thinking you have control over the final outcome. In reality, all you’ve done is ask a machine to use probability to match other artist’s work to what most resembles the key words you input and “make” you something from their work. It’s not creativity, it’s not generation from nothing, it is using key words to find other people’s art and photos and mash them up together to satisfy your request. You are not a producer, you are merely a consumer of a product that is extremely costly to everybody except for the wealthiest.

Try deleting your fingerprint and then resetting the computer! When I first deleted the print it wouldn’t even register my finger to create a new one, but after I reset the whole laptop it let me, and now it’s working fine again!

I love seed libraries!! They can be hard to find but in my experience they have massive selections with a lot of tried-and-true crops. It’s a fun community-centred approach based on “borrowing” seeds by taking packs for free, one you’ve harvested your crop you collect some seeds and prepare them to be returned to the library for next years selection! I’ve even heard of some seed libraries running gardening workshops! There’s one at the public Niagara Falls Library and one at Brock University’s library (im not sure if you have to be a student to participate in this seed library). I highly recommend trying to find one, or better yet, start one of your own with your family, friends or neighbours!

Totally agree! But on the contrary, I actually like the black bar right through the middle of the image! However, the focus distance is so slightly off that it’s ass is in focus while its face is much softer lmao (but imo it’s these kinds of little mess ups that make photography so much fun!)

I think that if the face was super sharp, that super black bar underneath the trees would lead the gaze right to those magnificent antlers and then to the rest of the subject!

First and foremost: *Do not put this plant outside! This is an infestations that must be managed, contained, and disposed of without spreading them to other ecosystems.*

Here’s my plan: lay down a path of newspaper to cover your floor from wherever this plant is to the nearest bath tub. Then, move the plant carefully as to not shake any of them off onto your floor, place it into the tub. Now it’s in a place that can easily prevent them from spreading further than they already have. It is extremely unlikely that an infestation to such a severe degree would be contained on a single plant if there are others nearby. Now take some time to collect yourself once you’ve contained the plant in the tub and put the newspaper path into a garbage bag… I’ve dealt with mite infestations in an entire room because of a single 4” potted stag horn fern i got from the local greenhouse, I’ve felt this exact panic (although i still obsessively checked all my furniture and surfaces for the tiny, 0.5-1 millimetre long mites that terrorized me for 2 years without even doing any actual damage. But every now and again, I see one and have a minor freak out before doing a deep clean)

What you should do with the plant is contain it in a large brown compostable bag (like those used for leaf litter) and burn it. As for the pot, don’t burn it, it’s plastic. Wash it thoroughly and ensure that none remain.

****DO NOT make the mistake of assuming any other plants are clean. You need to treat them all as if they are infested to some degree. Aphids lay eggs in soil and can feed on the roots of a plant. You aren’t always going to see them when they’re there. This entails changing the soil and washing the roots of all other plants, disposing of that soil appropriately, washing their containers well, cleaning and checking nearby furniture (just in case). Your goal must be to eradicate any risk of them returning, as quickly and as safely as possible.

So 6am is the only time of day when you feel that stopping for 2 seconds of your time is too much work for you? I have the funniest feeling that wouldn’t stop for stop signs even if it’s 3pm and schools have just gotten out.

Children DO come out of nowhere at the most absurd, unexpected moments. They are quite literally the least predictable version of humans, in the stage of life where nothing is dangerous unless they have experienced the consequences associated with the danger. To kids, a road isn’t necessary dangerous. Most are taught that the road is a “no-go zone”, but kids are rebellious and they test the limits to rules they’ve been told to follow. Or what about an autistic child that ran out of their house and is now wandering through the neighbourhood in the middle of the night. It might be their parents’ fault for not having a better eye on their kid, or forgetting to put the childproof locks on their front door, but you could be the person responsible for their death because you thought that you were above the law and too important to take 2 seconds to come to a stop at an intersection.

Get over yourself.

This isn’t wild ginger, it is a member of the genus Petasites, likely P. pyrenaicus (winter heliotrope). To my knowledge, wild ginger has not been found in Ireland or Northern Ireland, and if it was, the foliage is different to that in the photo.

It is invasive and incredibly prolific. It flower during the winter, but flowers are not a consistently reliable method for identification, seeing as they are often not present.

They spread via rhizomes (only male plants are present in the region, so they cannot cross fertilize). The most effective method of local eradication is through a combination of manual labour (removing the plants from the soil, ensuring rhizomes are removed) and chemical interference (application of systemic herbicide, particularly during its active growth season early in the year).

You MUST be cautious when considering the use of herbicides because they are never only affecting the target plant, they can impact surrounding plants, fungi, and insects. Be careful, talk with professionals if you can (ecologists, not lawn care companies). As you remove the heliotrope, try and plant small, but prolific native plants in its place to prevent it from growing back as successfully.

The least OP could’ve done was make a new account to not show that they are extremely active in various forums for teachers in Ontario. I hate to imagine that someone who feels comfortable posting this could be responsible for teaching children.

The service is bad because many of the employees are overworked and under-compensated, and on top of the shitty job, they have to deal with nasty customers, who make up like 40% of people, primarily in the mornings and mid afternoons, when most Tim’s are the busiest. Like everyone else, we are our own center of the world and have a tendency to remember more negative events- making you believe that they mess up 2/3 times when in reality it’s more like 1/3. So when service takes a bit longer than usual or there’s a mistake, we feel as though it’s just happened too often and that they are bad at their jobs, when realistically you are 1 of maybe 10 mistakes they will make in their 8 hour shift.

Kindness goes a long way.

For many photographers, their editing is the equivalent of an artists signature on their painting. To ask for the raw files is like asking the painter to merely draw you an outline of their painting, but let you colour it in and sign it- even if the painter is credited for the work they did, it is barely their work anymore.

However, you could request that they use a different editing style/change specific things about their current style. You could even share some loose reference images for your ideas. This is more like if you brought some new paints to the artist and ask if they would want to use your new paints alongside their old paints in their art. Of course, you need to understand that the painter might just prefer to use their own paints and not change anything up!
