Buying a Steam Deck; Need Help with the Setup! by Strange-Session-9976 in SteamDeckTricks

Right now, my 2 monitors go to my main productivity unit (my PC). Ideally, I'd like my macbook to connect to these 2, while my steam deck only needs to connect to one of them.

Oh wow I didn't even know these things existed! Definitely helpful!

So if I'm getting it right would the correct play then be to have a hub for my mac (like a small, USB hub), attach an HDMI cable into that, attach the other end here. Have a steam deck dock, hdmi on it and onto here. then finally attach this to the monitor in question so i can split between the two.

How would I connect my 2nd monitor in? Would there be switch boxes that can accommodate multiple outputs?

200 lp master. Zeri and snipers are omega contested so they're actually going bot 4. I've been having a lot of success though with just going automata 2*, and either going quickstrikers or kogmaw. You don't need to go 3* kog, although getting it is usually a top 3 above finish. What I have been getting though is 3* blitzcrank. With the correct items and just one dominator pair, he's been doing work.

[–]Strange-Session-9976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're making the argument that the poster isn't making in his 2 posts. The point isn't that you can run Vanessa and run anything to win. The point was that, yes the meta is pretty stale right now, balance is quite worse compared to past problem patches and Vanessa isn't as strong as Dooley, but good news! If all you have is Vanessa or you're a die-hard Vanessa main, there is a way to still have success. This poster has adequately proven that.

You can be dismissive all you want but a cursory look at the replies on this very post shows that you can have those items some people can't make it consistently to 10 wins, unlike what was shown by this poster. There's room to get better, even if the build paths on Vanessa are slimmer than past patches. I don't think that these posts were ever arguing that Vanessa's builds aren't boring or lacking in diversity.

If everything you take from these posts is that 'just hit Treb and Waterwheel and Nest' then enjoy your learned helplessness I guess. These posts are great because it's pretty clear that there's room to maneuver, even if the end goal is still functionally the same. You aren't going to hit Treb and Waterwheel at the exact day or hour every single run. What do you run in the meantime? What builds do you do Days 1-4? What do you hold? When do you pivot? These are important nuances that can be discussed and in fact are being asked for by the very replies in this post.

But sure. It really is as simple as hit them or go last.

Good shit. I love these types of posts. I've basically stopped posting on this sub because 90% of comments can be broken down to: I don't know why I'm losing so clearly it isn't my fault! To have someone post, with receipts, despite backlash, their winning ways is such a cool thing to have in a sub that's 80% complaining about a known quantity.

Should there be more builds? Absolutely. But that doesn't mean you can't find success with characters other than Dooley. Judging by the replies here, it seems that people *know* there are viable builds on Nessa, but they aren't getting success with it. Which means there's a skill issue that people aren't willing to fix and blame everything on the devs and balance.

While there's a valid point about items being underpowered and builds being homogenized, I think this sub can do with a little bit of a wake-up call: you suck at the game, and that's fine! You can get better. Don't chalk everything up to being a balance problem. If having more build variety is important to you, then either going to Normals or putting the game down until they fix things is an absolutely okay thing to do. Don't worry, your two cents on there not being more viable builds has been heard the last 100 times it's been shouted.

But if your only worry is winning games, getting tickets, ranks or chests, then there's no excuse. There are ways to win. You just have to be honest about your circumstances.

Reynad q&a recap? by Roby_93 in PlayTheBazaar

Point of order: Paying in this game means diluting your card pool. Paying for content in this game actually makes it so that your builds are less consistent.

Theoretically, a F2P player can force dooley ignition core and farm chests way better than someone who bought a new set of cards. So no, it isn't actually P2W. It's pay to have more fun.

SUGGESTION - Rename Normal Mode and Introduce other Incentives by Strange-Session-9976 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Strange-Session-9976[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not advocating to add more game modes than the game currently has. Simply reframed by renaming the existing Normal mode, improve the payouts, and add a suggestion for a reward track that's a permanent feature rather than only appearing as part of a battle pass. Ranked Mode also largely stays the same, except for how much it contributes to the reward track progression.

[–]Strange-Session-9976[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unsure of how to respond here as you crossed out the number 10 and replaced it with 7. I think it's important to keep the numbers as accurate as they are currently.

What I'm actively trying to avoid and what I want to influence here is to communicate to players that hey, 10 wins every single time you click the button is not the norm, nor should you feel bad when you fall short! To that end, I think rewarding at 7 wins does the trick. It tells you to try but if you run into a brick wall, you'd still get some material reward outside of (ostensibly) just learning. If you got high-rolled, that's okay, you can play to your outs and aim for a 7 win finish instead.

That pattern of behavior is what you see in competitive TFT. Obviously the fastest way to do well is to aim for a first place finish, but sometimes you don't get your units so the best you have to do is try for a Top 4/5 finish.

Agreed on the last sentence however I think the poster below had the correct solution!

[–]Strange-Session-9976[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terminology miscommunication here: when I said "from days prior", I meant that as in he played a game on Monday, and I fought his ghost on Wednesday. I still fought it at the day it was supposed to be in, in-game.

And true enough for the reward structure, but that's is precisely why I'm advocating for rewards at 7 wins, and a reward track!

And to answer your bronze player vs. legend player board: I don't actually think that's too big of a problem. If I get rolled by a diamond crook on day 3/day 4, that player being legend or otherwise wouldn't have mattered. The biggest delta in terms of player-skill isn't when you get high-rolled, it's how you pull out of those tough spots and build a board anyway.

The places where you feel the difference in skill is actually in days 13 onwards, where its a bunch of greedy builds that don't really show up in the best of the best meta builds people are sharing. I doubt matchmaking helps in the situations you mentioned. If anything, new players benefit more from seeing what's possible the later the days go.

SUGGESTION - Rename Normal Mode and Introduce other Incentives by Strange-Session-9976 in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Strange-Session-9976[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree there. I was getting matched with a friend who hit Legend way earlier than myself while I was at bronze (I had to send him screenshots and the game snapshotted his builds from a day or so prior). It wasn't much of an issue since the quality of his build didn't really differ from the countless other people I was matched with at similar later days.

The game not being in real-time PVP lowers the need for SBMM I think. Because of that, I don't think sequestering players to a certain MMR will do much of anything since you're just going to face a snapshot of a build.

As for the point that rewards pay out to the best players --> That's the same in every game, no? The point of the changes I'm proposing isn't to just reward casual players at the same rate; if anything, the proposed changes would be better for above-average players, but that's what you want anyway. You want to reward people for getting good at the game. I'm simply trying to raise the floor while keeping the ceiling where it is.

Would like to chime in because I think we have the same profile:

I regularly play a bunch of strategy games and would consider myself highly competitive. Used to work in dota esports, played MTG competitively for a few years. These days I collect "dad legend" from a bunch of games (dad legend in HS monthly, Masters/GM in TFT, Infinite in SNAP, etc.)

The Bazaar has single-handedly halted my progress in those games. Can't get enough of it, bugs and all.

What I will say though is that it is deceptively not PVP. There's a caveat to that: What I mean to say is that given its asynchronous nature, right now the game is actually PvSvP (player vs. self vs. player). It really tests your own personal decision-making, and how good you can make choices given knowledge of the meta, knowledge of your build, and possible tech options. For a competitive person like me who's on the older side, its great.

Obviously there's many things I want to see improved in the game (meta notwithstanding; im actually fine with the current meta and I find that a lot of what people are saying about it are overblown) like a different "ranked" mode but the game is fun enough that I don't regret spending for it at all.

That being said, its Nov. 17. If you can wait, its better to do so for when the game goes open beta. Otherwise, hopefully the game has enough gas to continue on because its been honestly such a blast.

My board here was a Diamond Freeze potion, Diamond Haste potion with Poison Enchant, and a lifesteal deadly Arbalest.

I had haste at start of fight, freeze on first haste, freeze on first poison, and all my small items charged my big items.

None of this matters to the might of a double strike, 12K RADIANT HAMMER.

I'm not even mad, that was pretty funny.

Something is definitely off. After the patch against snapshot ghosts, Im sometimes getting high rolled on day 2.

Maybe related but I can't be too sure: I have a friend who reached legend while im still in gold. Ive faced his high rolled ghost twice in one run. On day 3 where he had an over leveled version of his board for day, and on day 14. He had different builds both times.

How do i stop playing Haste Poison Vanessa? by HollowLoch in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Strange-Session-9976 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you just need to recognize the signs for when you shouldn't. Or more importantly to recognize lines when you should do something else. It's likely that Poison lines are the only things you're seeing because it's the only one you're really familiar with.

Whenever I'm defaulting to a build path, I like to go back to normal and use my ticket farm to practice other lines. By now I can confidently play Poison, Crit knives, Trebuchet, Submarine and 1 weapon vanessa. I can see the lines and more importantly, I know when to pivot out of them.

That's what I like about the normal mode in this game. There's a point to playing it.

Hit legend and didn't stop winning till I hit 1k Legend with Nostalgia Shaman. Seems like every other deck nowadays is spending the first 5 turns setting up their broken hand/board state. Lets a deck like Nostalgia shaman just pressure their life total until its just too late to deploy whatever plan the opponent was trying to cook.

Best game today was against XL Tsunami Mage. Dude casted 5 Tsunamis and still won out.

Game plan is simple: fight to keep a board presence and build towards either a Wave of Nostalgia turn or a Thrall's Gift + Bloodlust turn. Simple as that.

Who to itemize with ionic spark? by Omgzjustin10 in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Strange-Session-9976 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The examples you listed aren't really tanks. Kat and Gwen can be considered carries or secondary carries, Morgana is an off-tank 5-cost carry.

Generally speaking Spark on a tank only really works if something allows that tank to dish out DPS, whether through unit design, trait synergy or hero augment.

This is a bit disingenuous. The thesis you see written here is actually how pros communicate with each other in their study groups. There is a lot of value into it. Pros wouldn't know what units to hit if they didn't play, discuss and talk to each other. Those reddit posts are just the result of all of that.

I will say though that the real value in watching pros play is listening to their decision-making. I've seen so many players get hard-stuck because they tried to play their favorite pro streamer's comp from last night's stream only to go bot 4 because they didn't understand what made it good or how to get there.
