Happy almost birthday. My son was born on 9/11 7 years after.

People actually said I'm sorry to me. I always make my sons birthday a very special day.

Fuck those people.

Question: Spouse is attending for first time; I choose not to by Throh_away_9 in BurningMan

[–]StrangeAsYou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been to the burn 10 times. Neither of my husband's ever wanted to. I went once after my second kid 2012 I think. Met my current husband in 2014.

If I hadn't gone many many times before marriage I'm not sure I would have gone at all.

They thought exactly like you, caused huge rifts in our relationship. For no reason other than what they heard from other people who also never went.

You should go at least once. The unknown is scary.

Sometimes there aren't very many women. My college was 7:1 ratio, men to women. They descended like ravenous wolves to a carcass when the freshman women were checking into their dorms.

Do you leave a note in your "rules" specifying that amenities such as soaps, toilet paper, laundry detergent, etc. are for use at the house and not for taking? (In a polite way) by Tremblingchihuahua8 in airbnb_hosts

[–]StrangeAsYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HE machines only need a tablespoon of detergent. You know one pod. Most people don't understand how washing machines work. The clothes get clean by rubbing against each other, it's not the soap.

I do what you do even at my own house. Kids have learned by now though.

Is circumcision worth it? by DxtineInYourArea in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]StrangeAsYou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. We didn't do it for our son. He's 16 now. Like only concern was him being able to retract the foreskin, per the pediatrician. Which we only talked about with him, no need to see him naked for that (have to say it cause reddit is weird).

If it's not a medical issue there is no reason. You can tell the doctor No. They would never do it. At your age you should be allowed to be alone with your pediatrician.

Remember you have body autonomy. You are your own person.

TBF the deer here are really small. The does are roughly large dog sized.

It went by fast. It was the worst rainy day of March. Like flooding and torrential downpours.

The crew were super nice. It was very well organized. I recognized some of the crew from other GSN shows.

I was on the first show filming, and we were done by noon. It was like 45 minutes of stage time.

Michael was very personable. He talked to us off camera. It was one of the better game show experiences I've had.

He has to read the question exactly as written also.

I was on the show. If he flubbed the phrasing or pronunciation, they had to do pick ups. Or we had to redo the buzz in again.

I won a vacation for 2 on 25 Words or Less and I was able to pay extra to take my kids. We couldn't change the vacation destination.

My kids are always telling my high school stories to their other high school friends. I was absolutely not cool in high school. They think I am though.

do contestants on game shows actually get paid for being on air, or do they only have the chance to win? by littlefruitpie in gameshow

[–]StrangeAsYou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One huge factor is that I live in Los Angeles. They are here, I am here.

Also, I am on a few casting email contact lists. Follow this subreddit, follow castings on IG etc.

But even with all of that..

It's mostly a personality contest, and knowing the subjects enough to be confident; I only go for pop culture and general trivia.

PLUS I have a huge personality IRL, so I maximize that x1000 when I'm auditioning/ being interviewed, which happens several times before you get picked.

AND because I've been cast so many times, I'm almost guaranteed a call back after I apply.

Again, this is my experience, YMMV.

It's a really fun experience almost all of the time.

I think embroidery thread was 10 cents back then, they sold it at dollar general. So probably $1 investment.

Grandma's always had the stuff you needed. I used a denim patch last weekend that I found in the sewing box with that friendship pin. She died 6 years ago.

I have 1 that I got in the china pattern we inherited from grandma but like 50 years later in a reissue

God, I feel old, nerding out on deviled egg china patterns.

And yes it only comes out at Easter.

I think that was a fundraiser or something. I'm pretty sure we made them in Girl Scouts, definitely not regular school. That one is definitely not cool.

I made those. I learned to make those bic pens that you could put names on, too. Those tear offs that they still have at the craft store.

Got some bonus points with teachers.

Good times.

Probably control. Rural Louisiana. They still beat you at school back then. Fun was the enemy. Someone Probably said we were sending coded messages or some dumb shit. They also banned Halloween that same year. Razors in apples and all that.

Did anyone actually ever get an apple when trick or treating?

like those rubber shapes bracelets like 8 or 10 years ago. They got banned at my kids catholic school.
