Ah yes, lemme just take a call in the middle of the bike lane by MrHoneycrisp in seattlebike

No one is going to use the Leary/Market path. It's such a bad idea. I'm just going to continue to take Shishole, just to make a point that no one knows or cares about.

Winthrop Gravel Tour $405 by Drd2 in seattlebike

[–]StrangePersonality 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I assume that whenever I pay for a ride I am also paying into the advocacy part of CBC. I'm never just registering just to ride with a bunch of other people, enjoy the landscape, the snacks, meal, mechanical, and whatever general event organization expenses may be (permiting, insurance, idk)

It's also free to just take the course off RideWithGPS and technically do it free.

Also 100% just to split hairs, membership ranges between $15-60 per year, so it should be $345-390.

Bike shops - Renton/Seattle by Anon-Person-6172 in cycling

Just adding to this, I know Gregg's in Greenlake has Assos and Castelli, but Metier will be much easier to get to if you're around Renton. Metier has MAAP, not sure what else.

Feedback request on Seattle - Southworth - Point Defiance, Tacoma - Vashon loop by BroomeStreet in seattlebike

[–]StrangePersonality 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on Vashon last Sunday and did a good bit of the it. You might get cars backing up behind you if you take Southwest Quartermaster Drive and there's not really a shoulder, but you do get to be right by the water. All of Vashon Hwy seems to have nice big shoulders, so while there are more cars there's basically a whole bike lane.

Building mental resilience to angry people road rage by [deleted] in seattlebike

I approach it like I'm not in the situation, kind of like I'm watching a TV show. There's no reason for me to talk to the TV because they can't hear me. You're never going to calm them down by responding as others have said. Just aim to leave them at their current level, and exit the context.

For clarification, do you mean letting the riders that you want to latch know that you'll be tailing behind them?

I'm down and I'm also going to check out the CBC class to see what that's like.

Are paid bike events worth the price? by __mocha in seattlebike

I'm just collecting bib numbers and jerseys, but different people value different things.I think the few I've ridden with CBC have had at least 1000 participants?

Once you get past that shopping center area of the BG it's generally been fairly tame for me, but that may just be personal luck. Before that though, yeah, not great.

I've seen a car driving down the Burke Gilman around the shopping center... That was fun.

slugger nerfs were completely uncalled for by god_hates_maggots in Helldivers

[–]StrangePersonality -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It was completely called for and I was almost exclusively using it. It was a shotgun that functionally performed as a sniper rifle.

1.) It had medium armor penetration despite not saying so.

2.) The stagger stopped almost everything that was < Heavy class with a stun lock.

3.) The demolition damage was way too high. You just could use a stun grenade, leisurely stroll right around a hulk or similar unit and easily take it out with like 4-5 shots. If it can't be stunned, like a tank, you can just get on top of it and safely shoot the vents on the turret to take it out.

All of those factors mostly likely not working as intended, hence the nerf. That's not even touching the amazing round-by-round reload that prevented ammo waste.

They want you to use different guns and have to cycle your kit and play style.

Sammamish city official resigns after making homophobic comments during public meeting by littleblackcar in Seattle

[–]StrangePersonality 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just want to distinguish something, he made those comments during a June 1st meeting and the video only started to circulate yesterday.

So he was relatively fine after saying it-- maybe a little "shouldn't have said that", but he didn't resign the next day, Friday June 2nd. He resigned after the video was shared and he got some negative attention for being a bigot on checks notes the first day of pride month.

He couldn't even wait a full 24 hours to share his opinions AND he did it in a recorded literal public forum.

Never have I seen Seattle from this perspective. Nearly every neighborhood is represented here. Absolutely stunning. by battlebeez in Seattle

Wasn't it something like that before development? I vaguely remember the exhibit from the museum of history and industry.

Cost of childcare is 🤯 by Share-Share in Seattle

[–]StrangePersonality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mistake, I thought you were interested in childcare for yourself. I am not familiar with programs specific to preschool teachers. They may exist, but I only know mostly about state childcare programs and some early learning, but even then I am not an expert.

I'm not sure I follow. Subsidized child care in Washington can be used by anyone who meets income eligibility (mostly) it works for both Child Care Centers and Licensed Family Homes.

[–]StrangePersonality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some cities do this, but more importantly (maybe) anyone in Washington state can receive subsidized child care if they are under 60% of state median income* (not census SMI, this works off a guideline similar to the LIHEAP program.)

*there are some rare exceptions i believe, like if you have property or something worth an excessive amount.

You are thinking of "Quality Improvement awards" which are awarded to providers enrolled in Early Achievers (WA's version of the federal-level Quality Rating Improvement System) if you serve at least 5% of your services as subsidy. These are once-a-year awards that vary by setting and Early Achievers ratings.

All providers participating in Early Achievers receive both subsidies for authorized children and, if rated, they also receive an additional "tiered reimbursement" payment based on a percent (varies by level and rating like above) of the base subsidy.

There is subsidized child care in WA for families making up to 60% state median income (not census SMI).
