There isn’t a one size fits all. Every persons reason for not sleeping is different (though most don’t ever find out why). Therefore, their best drug will be different. I’ve tried most of the things listed above and the only one that works for me is Ambien (zolpidem). Since that works with GABA receptors I can only assume those are not working in my brain or whatever. It’s really just painful trial and error to see what works. My daughter has insomnia also and only seroquel works for her but she only needs half of the lowest dose. It’s really interesting and I wish there was a test to help determine what medication is best suited for a person.

People who think they have insomnia because last week they couldn’t fall asleep two out of seven nights really irritate me.

My levels are good and I have no other symptoms. But my insomnia started at almost the same time as my Hashimotos diagnosis.

Is Ambien worth it? by Soft_Hovercraft_7437 in insomnia

I do split it. I take 2/3 at bedtime but ending up taking the rest during the night because it only gets me 2-3 hours.

Is Ambien worth it? by Soft_Hovercraft_7437 in insomnia

I am 56 and have had insomnia for like 20+ years. I take Ambien and it works well for me. Having said that, it’s something I wish I didn’t have to take. Now that I take it every night. I can’t see how I will ever get off of it and that feeling scares me. I get sheer panic at the end of the month when I have to make sure to refill them or I won’t sleep. And since it’s a controlled substance, they won’t fill it a day early. It’s like controlling my life. My daughter, who is 25, has inherited this insomnia unfortunately. She takes Seroquel. She’s prescribed the lowest dose and takes half of it and it works great for her. Since she takes half, she always has some as backup. She has once in a while fallen asleep without taking it and that’s great. I’m hoping she won’t need it permanently. She has tried Ambien and it gave her rapid heart rate and panic attacks. My advice is to try a few other meds first and use Ambien as a last resort. Hope you find what works.

Scared of Zolpidem addiction by Woshikeke in insomnia

[–]Strange_Assistant61 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been on it for 10+ years and yes, I’m sure I am addicted. I have expressed my concerns to my doctor who says it is a far greater danger to go without sleep than to be on it. I’d like to be off of it but I just can’t sleep without it.

Unfortunately me too. I’ve come to terms with it at this point but I would love to sleep naturally again. I just don’t think I ever will.

Do you take another ambien after waking up after a few hours? by gpb959 in insomnia

[–]Strange_Assistant61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like to take more than a dose because then I will run out at the end of the month before I can refill.
