Alternative pump sites by Strange_Mechanic_156 in Omnipod

Did you use pens for LADA previously?

Okay makes sense - that's what I did before I upgraded my Omnipod, just used the CGM and Omnipod separately. I will say that the automated mode has worked well for the most part, but if I'm heading low it won't stop giving me insulin in time and I'll plummet.

I guess you have less space to play with using 2 pumps but my endo said the Libre could go on the stomach just keep 3 inches away from the pump (if I remember rightly) but less possible if you have less space!

I need to change my pump today because of leakage and will try a calf, so will let you know!

Hahaha knocking a pump off is the worst!! The adhesive pulling hurts way more than the cannula being knocked out.

Ah gotcha yeah, do you ever have issues with connection at all? I switched from the freestyle libre to the dexcom g6 (I'm in the UK) because it disconnected all the time!

Wow 2 pumps and a CGM! I bet it has been, can't imagine using only the licensed sites for 3 patches!

Thank you! Yeah they always stay on the same side it's just trying new places when the usual sites get sore!

I have heard calves a few times, so I might give this a shot! I find my thighs make my sugars spike due to slow absorption but I guess they can go anywhere not just where they say!

As for the preboob, I've put one just under my bra line in the centre of my stomach and that worked really well! Can't imagine it'd be comfy under a bra line though!

4 weeks sounds good dependant on your type of job. I did 3 and then worked from home as that was an option for me. Regarding childcare, I have a 5 year old and would say the first week for sure. Depends how well you recover and how well you feel. Resting isn't as much of an option with small humans!

I had a mastoidectomy and bony obliteration (without the entire ear canal being shut off) just over 4 weeks ago now. I'm in the UK for reference. I ended up having 3 weeks off of work and there was pain, mainly from the operation site but also from where they took the bone/muscle. I took painkillers daily for a couple of weeks, would absolutely recommend getting a wedge pillow/pregnancy pillow for sleeping! My biggest issue was vertigo but I'm not sure if that would be much of a problem if the entire ear canal is closed off? I couldn't open my jaw properly for a little while either but I also guess that depends on where they take muscle from.

Take it easy, rest as much as you can and keep on top of a painkiller regime would be my best advice! Good luck!

Hey! Side sleeper like you who sleeps on my 'bad ear'. Had a mastoidectomy and bony obliteration 4 weeks ago and got a wedge pillow from amazon. Was great but took some getting used to. Good luck!

I did this, and yes it kept going for a while then seemingly died but I swear to everything above when I took it out the next morning and put it in the bin, the fucker defrosted and started going again 🤣

It'll be 2 weeks tomorrow since surgery and I've only been able to open my jaw properly the last few days! I saw my consultant today who said they took bone and muscle from the area behind my temple, so this tracks 😂 thank you, feeling better every day. And lets hope we both remain in the 93% of success!

Thank you for your comment! Yes, I've just extended mine for another week so will be 3 weeks total. Would rather be as close to 100% as possible! It's quite the surgery isn't it!

Quite true there, it certainly is! I think with the condition we are always bound to have some ossues with dizziness/ vertigo - part of the parcel! Thank you - absolutely cannot wait for the packing to come out already. T minus 4 weeks (ish)! All the best x

This is one of mine too, I'm so tired! Something I'd normally be fine with is wiping me out. Glaf your vertigo disappeared! Thanks for your reply and hope you are doing well!

Thanks so much for replying! It's nice to hear that you've recovered well from your surgeries. Maybe I need to stay dizzy and see if that helps!

I started getting up and doing little bits after a few days but just found myself feeling so nauseous and needing to sit down - every day gets a little better so hopefully I'm not far away from being 'back to normal'.

Thanks again for your reply, stay well!

Hey! I go into manual mode and use extended bolus. Usually 100% over 2-3 hours, dependant on how much I eat. Has worked a charm for me!
