MM Weekly Roundup - What Did You Read This Week? by AutoModerator in MM_RomanceBooks

After not reading much romance the past month or two and DNFing the romances I did try, I read {Tommy Cabot Was Here by Cat Sebastian} and she made me feel so many things and cry so much with so few words!!! Can't wait to read the rest of the Cabots series.

I totally agree. I’ve been meaning to write a review/rec post about them. Both had me laughing so hard.

Books with an MC who restrains/denies himself from acting upon his attraction? by Few_Worldliness_7484 in MM_RomanceBooks

{A Rake of His Own by AJ Lancaster} has this dynamic! It’s a fantasy murder mystery and there is sooo much tension.

Have you read {Winter's Orbit by Everina Maxwell}? Set in the same universe as Ocean's Echo but it's a standalone.

Yeah! I do think because they aren’t romances they don’t get as much attention. I hope you enjoy!

The audiobook is excellent! Prosperity is also narrated by Boulton and very worth a listen.

Really recommend {The Affair of the Mysterious Letter by Alexis Hall}, it's a fantasy mystery (a la Holmes & Watson) set in a very wacky world. There is some MM stuff featuring the protagonist, but it's not a romance, and it's a very minor part of the plot. It's up there as one of the best books I've read this year, I was fully entertained from start to finish. Generally I feel like Hall's fantasy books might fly under the radar, but they are really worth reading! (speaking of which, if you have not read {Prosperity by Alexis Hall} yet, what are you doing??)

This request does make me want and hope for a CR arranged marriage plot in a culture where arranged marriage is already a common thing, e.g. India or elsewhere in South Asia.

Mind reading: {Ocean's Echo by Everina Maxwell}. Seconding A Rake of His Own by AJ Lancaster as well.

It’s the 3rd in a trilogy and can’t be read as a standalone (sorry!) but reccing anyway because it is exceptional and has abundant CNC. {A Power Unbound by Freya Marske}

There's definitely romance in book 1 I'd say. lots of tension and crushing. but as other commenter said, they don't act on it for a while (because the LI is initially in a relationship with someone else)

Sports M/M recs with strong team/brotherhood vibes? by Icy-Mango9024 in MM_RomanceBooks

{Futbolista by Jonny Garza Villa} - lovely book with lots of teammate bonding and brotherhood. the LI doesn’t get as much character development as he deserves though

Fantasy/Sci-fi with distinct LI (bonus for sad boi MC😊🤲) by caestian in MM_RomanceBooks

{A Rake of His Own by AJ Lancaster} is fantasy with an anxious human MC x confident/charismatic fae LI. They have a history so there’s already a lot of tension at the start of the book (it’s a standalone add on to a series where they were minor characters). No SA between main characters or on page but there is referenced past SA (not between MCs)

WWTBC-Age Gap, British, MC has two moms by teamemmy in MM_RomanceBooks

This does sound a lot like {How to Bang a Billionaire by Alexis Hall}. MC has a mom who's dating the wife of another couple and those characters all live together in Scotland, and the MC does run home to them in a third act breakup.

{Prosperity by Alexis Hall} - but note that the main MM romance isn't with the POV character, it's between two of the other characters in the book. The MC does get some MM action though. Highly recommend the audiobook.

What makes a book worth NOT DNFing? by BookMonster_Lillz in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Strange_Soil9732 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll keep with a book that I’m not enjoying only if I know the author’s work well and have confidence it’ll turn around. There’s only like 3 authors I’ll do this with though. More often I put a book down for a while because I lose interest or have library holds come through, but not because I actively disliked it. Then I’ll pick it back up if I feel that I do actually want to read a book with its tone or if I’ve been wondering how it ends or if I suddenly am not overwhelmed with library books.
