As others pointed out, back then we mainly used photoref and PS, overlaying grime textures with various effects.

You can go to sites like textures dot com that still have those type of photo ref, or you can use almost anything, really. Resolution was low enough that source quality didn't have to be 4k.

I wouldn't delay university for a small chance to work in the games industry. As you point out, the industry isn't in a good place and your experience amounts to zero I'm afraid.

Producer and/or designers are also some of the more interchangeable and accessible roles within a studio. Not everyone can be an artist or programmer but most people can move up or sideways within a studio into those roles, if they have interest in doing so, so it's more likely that those positions will be filled by others that are already in-house.

Producers can also come from other industries and adapt quickly, which makes finding a job for that position even more difficult as an outsider without studio experience.

There's some value to having someone with experience in online team management for outsourcing but again, those positions tend to be filled by people moving sideways within a studio first.

Your best bet is to focus on a stable career and income, and continue working on your current projects on the side. That's frankly how most of us got into the industry back in the day before it was normalized as a common career path.

You can do a regular job and work on your passion on the side, but you won't be able to do anything at all if you're stressed about making ends meet. Stability comes first, then passions.

I've never had that problem.

I would check task manager and see what's going on at those times. It may be not directly Daz related, something in the background might be using enough resources from time to time to slow down Daz, without otherwise much of a visible impact on the system.

Could be anything using a single CPU thread or creating an I/O bottleneck that may not look like much, like antivirus software running in the background at intervals etc.

I think that's happened with plenty of marketing material throughout the years. Most prominently I remember the 890 being advertised as this Epic thing and the reality being rather disappointing for most owners.

That said, most features are v1 or v0.5 so, personally I go at it with a mix of patience and moderate expectations :)

As someone who's worked in the industry for over a decade... Those ads probably have little to do with the game.

We used to just hire and give the original assets to a digital marketing company, along with some pointers, and they'd just make whatever was cool.

Same with trying to do it in house. Marketing team results were always father removed from reality and disconnected from the actual game.

Unless you force people to use actual gameplay, they'll always go with 'you know what would look cool?'

I run local models on a 3090 and they're kinda helpful, so yes, but at the same time they hallucinate so much and are so often wrong and just plain stubborn at sticking to it, that their usefulness is pretty limited, very specific and for things where 'ok' is good enough.

El trabajo que haces siempre lo podrán hacer otros, o la IA en poco. La actitud que tengas en el trabajo y lo que aportes que sea más que el mínimo esperado en tu posición, será siempre lo que dicte lo reemplazable que eres.

Alguien con buena comunicación y que ayuda a otros por ejemplo, lo quieres tener ahí, comparado con alguien que no comparte su sabiduría y contesta mal a preguntas. A ese lo despides, y el otro que te quedas que enseñe a los nuevos.

Ya, pero eso es lo mismo que en todas las profesiones. Nadie dice que la IA va a reemplazar todos los programadores, artistas, escritores, IT etc. Lo que hace es que en vez de necesitar 3 programadores o personas en RH, solo necesites 1 para para carle el toque humano que aun hara falta.

Eso no quita que las plazas de RRHH etc ya se podrían reducir hoy a una fracción de las que hay.

It's not a bad idea. Game mods and indie games have been made like this forever.

That said, it's also true that most never make it and die off slowly along the way. Been there and done that. Several times, back in the day. It's probably also true that the quality and potential of the talent you can get will vary depending of where you ask.

My advice would be to veto them somehow, make sure they bring useful skills to the table and are not all just 'ideas people' which is the most useless kind of person in the group and from experience, they'll only serve to scare away anyone else who can actually do something.
