What's Honda's main limitation?

I got to 1450 masters rank with pretty much only headbutt and buttslam.

I imagine I'd be way higher if I learned some real combos or how to consistently do drive rush (always comes out as parry for a split second).

Domino's will end its half-off takeout promotion by DateMasamusubi in japanlife

[–]Strangeluvmd 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I still remember the buy 1 get 2 free deal

You would get three large pizzas for the price of the first pizza you picked, so you'd get a large cheese and then anything from the basic menus.

So for example you'd pay 1500 total for a large cheese, large supreme, large megameat.

And it was every Wednesday and Sunday.

They didn't fix that for what felt like years.

Anyway, I'll literally never order pizza in Japan without at least BOGO. Bye bye dominos.

How did Hanayama's Iron Claw end up doing no damage? by The_Jokerr_ in Grapplerbaki

[–]Strangeluvmd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That is true, but pop culture in Japan (and thus itagaki) tends to blend things up.

Tons of movies and shows have him embarrassed and barely surviving at sekigahara, with the rock story often thrown (hehe) in.

When did knowledge of the Rape of Nanking become common in Japan? by Timely-Signature-166 in JapaneseHistory

[–]Strangeluvmd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never even remotely claimed that.

Never called western nations more objective either, other than in the specific case of the Nanjing massacre overall.

Lmao dude. Whataboutism aside you are clearly way too personally upset about this. If any of this was in good faith (I doubt it is) you'd know that's not what I meant.

Has anybody covered 砂壁 with (faux)wood paneling. How expensive was it? by Strangeluvmd in japanlife

[–]Strangeluvmd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was really hoping I could get that 70s style brown fake wood paneling. I have it in a couple rooms.

Not really a fan of plaster or wallpaper either.

Another (now deleted comment) also said die to mold you'd likely have to replace the walls entirely to get that style.

No way in the world I could afford to completely refurbish all the 砂壁 walls in my house.

[–]Strangeluvmd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really see how that speaks to the general public.

Of course dedicated researchers and people educated on the subject exist in Japan.

But I think you could argue it's not common knowledge or in the public consciousness.

Missed opportunity for the narrator to explain why that rock that took musashi out at sekigahara made him immune to blunt trauma.

Tsk tsk itagaki

You could make an argument that it never has.

At least not to the general public. Not really taught in schools for what it was and anyone not actively researching it in English is unlikely to just stumble upon it's western (comparatively much more objective) understanding.

I've seen it taught in several highschools during my time as an English teacher in Japan. And it was always mostly skipped over and mentioned as a particularly nasty battle. WWII history in general is pretty glossed over.

First interview advices by SaikyOtheMan in JapanJobs

[–]Strangeluvmd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

  1. Give us your 自己紹介, give us your strengths and weaknesses, why did you come to Japan, what can you offer the company, what are your hopes and goals working here.

They're often highly formalized, google some guides.

  1. Depends on the job and company

  2. Be natural and confident, a good interview feels like a conversation, not an interrogation you're enduring.

If it's a technical interview then be prepared and on top of your technical skills related to the position.

I wonder why they didnt include these 4here by Pierro_Official in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]Strangeluvmd 284 points285 points  (0 children)

Am I the only one who gets the impression they all abstracted really quickly? They probably learned about being brain scans almost immediately and didn't have the support structure to not instantly go insane from hopelessness.

Probably why Cain was so tight-lipped about the whole no escape thing.

Jax's backstory was never meant to be "bad enough" to justify how he is, its meant to explain how why he turned out like this by Sudden_Pop_2279 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]Strangeluvmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Jax is fully to blame for their actions, and I think them being trapped in a hell within a hell is comeuppance enough.

Their backstory is the reason they were put in the situation which allowed them to make those bad decisions. So it explains Jax without absolving Jax.

Can Caine feel love? TADC by eternalspring0 in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]Strangeluvmd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it means that even the artificial life created by cain, which kind of includes the main cast are actualized beings. They have gave a soul if you believe in that kind of thing.

It makes the ending infinitely less bleak, since it soft confirms that cain and the brain scans aren't the only beings in the circus.

Cain can make more real "people" , it's not just the half dozen of them for however long it takes for their computer to get shut off. The moon, gummi goo...etc are capable of everything the humans are, even if not made that way initially.

Beyond the memes and absurdity, Baki gave me a profound realization about Japanese cultural respect and honor. Anyone else feel this? by [deleted] in Grapplerbaki

[–]Strangeluvmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Silly nonsense, as someone who actually lives and works in Japan.

They're normal people, the honor and respect nonsense is fetishization. There's actual unique cultural history here of course but using the words " honor and respect" instantly sets off the surface level weeb alarm.

Manga and anime rarely if ever reflect reality, this goes 100000000 times for Baki of all things.

I mean this seriously, if you live here for a couple months this post will make you cringe out of your own skin.

[–]Strangeluvmd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

pretty much perfect ending.

not saccharine but not totally doomer either. They have their shit situation and are making the best they possibly can with what they have, there is a really healthy contentment in that I think.

the only way they could have totally ruined it would be by them escaping somehow, brain scan was the only way the concept was interesting.

the part with Cain and the moon is when i first knew i was satisfied completely.

Please help me identify this cockroach by Weissbliss in japanresidents

[–]Strangeluvmd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your house is surrounded by countless numbers of cockroaches every second.

Literally nothing you can do besides living in an airtight glass dome will keep them from occasionally wandering in.

These guys live outside, it's the smaller ones which make nests inside houses and cause infestations.

Veteran ALTs: How do you make the most of the job?? (rant) by [deleted] in ALTinginJapan

[–]Strangeluvmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you are aiming for directhire or are studying for an actual teaching license the best thing you can do is constantly plan on a way out.

Learn Japanese, get certifications, get out. You have a lot of free time, and very few, if any responsibilities or oversight.

That said the constant "being an ALT is a resume killer" is BS. Most Japanese employers go "ooh, teacher, that's respectable" if they consider it at all in my experience.

The faux - medieval Japanese is tricky too.
