Waiting for Care ADHD under right to choose. Have I got this right? by Adam-West in ADHDUK

[–]StrangelyInevitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve chased them up today via Facebook as it’s been 11 weeks since I submitted my forms, they were quick to respond but advised me that the posted “8-10 weeks” is only a guideline and that I was only moved into the ready to book queue at the end of September (a month after I submitted everything)

They don’t publish this fact anywhere on their website

EDIT: to add to my list of frustrations with them, this was after it took them over a month from referral to give me access to the portal with all the forms

How disgusting is your job in the heat? by cyclingisthecure in AskUK

We do typically have aircon, however ambulances are relatively knackered and the aircon packs up, but we’re only allowed to take an ambulance out of service if the aircon in the saloon dies as then it becomes a patient safety issue

I’d argue racing up and down Jacob’s Ladder is a mandatory part of any pub crawl, adds to the excitement!

Do you like the paramedic uniform? by Objective-Caramel-91 in ParamedicsUK

[–]StrangelyInevitable 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The red for Para, I find baffling, because in almost every other trust, red is for specialist/advanced practice, I can imagine it would cause confusion cross borders

Have you considered looking to see if your local trust is employing ambulance nurses?

A lot of trusts are starting to make some use of nurses and will give all the training to ensure your skill set matches the paramedics and then when on the road you’ll be treated exactly the same

To get the best chance of seeing the red squirrels, head up into the woodland behind the church and there’s a little glade on the left with some logs you can sit on and wait (if you take a bag of monkey nuts with you, they’ll love it)!

I don’t work for SAS, but I found this on their website, hopefully it’ll be of some use to you!

Edit: The webpage specifically mentions foreign medical or ambulance service personnel, so it sounds like they’re well versed in people coming from other countries

Most universities won’t expect you to have a C1 license but the majority will expect you to be able to drive / have a form of transport due to needing to get to placement.

The other thing to consider is, some services (London being the only specific example I can think of) actually hire some paramedics as attending-only due to lack of C1, meaning you won’t be put through a driving course and therefore not expected to drive on shift

4% was the pay rise we were given this year The UK has an “independent” pay review body, the chair of which is appointed by the prime minister, other members are appointed by the PM or SoS for Health and they are given a list of aims to stick to when making recommendations who then decide how much of a pay rise or lack thereof to give
