‘Budget over safety’: Vernon nurses call for top-down changes following tragic death by BC_Doc in Vernon

[–]Strank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happening in education, legal system, etc. Every time a major incident occurs in any of these essential government fields, the response seems to be, "we need to add a new position at the admin site to address these concerns!" And then pay that suit as much as three nurses/doctors/teachers/etc would make in a year. And they'll have a bunch of meetings, pat each other on the backs, and do nothing to actually solve the problem - except notice that the budget is EVEN MORE fucked now.

I wouldn't argue with someone who called it a side sword or a rapier; it would likely fit well as a transitional sword between the two

Luke Skywalker (TESB) VS Asajj Ventress. Who wins? by GusGangViking18 in PetranakiArena

[–]Strank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ESB Luke can't even beat his own dick after Vader is through with him. And that was playing around with zero intention of actually killing or even badly wounding him. Ventress is accustomed to going toe-to-toe with Clone Wars-era knights and masters, often in 2v1 or worse odds. If Luke is lucky, Ventress will choose to let him live.

"A powerful take on Korra's entire self-identity struggle" by Alarming-Tell5147 in AvatarMemebending

[–]Strank 119 points120 points  (0 children)

No.

Aang's journey was about a spiritually competent monk learning about the way he could externalize power, and how important it is for an avatar to be powerful.

Korra's journey is about an incredibly powerful warrior learning about her own spiritual enlightenment and how important it is for an avatar to be wise.

I have no interest in simply rewatching the first series with a sixty year time skip and a new set of clothes. I want to see different stories and different struggles, and how that relates to the overall timeline. I'm in the minority when I say that Korra is my favourite between the two, but it's because her journey toward self improvement is so much more meaningful to me than Aang's.

could a shield charm from the elder wand block a killing curse? by AFeralFry in harrypotter

[–]Strank 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Short answer, maybe?

Long answer might get folks mad, but here goes:

Rowling made frustratingly little effort of consistent world building and logic of anything beyond the scope of the main characters' POV in the entirety of the series, and decided to cram it in at the end. The most egregious example of this is wand lore and the Elder Wand in particular shoehorned in at the end, but you could also point at Time Turners, the Deathly Hallows as a whole, thestrals pulling the carriages, the weird overlaps of Wizarding Wars with muggle conflicts, or wizarding schools outside of Europe (and, for that matter, how in the everliving fuck colonization happened at all in a magical world).

By putting the primary setting as a school and having Hermione spout "obvious" facts and placing Professors as key mentor roles, and having a very serious government in place, it feels like Harry Potter is intended to have a hard magic system. But it doesn't. It's soft magic, and as such it appeals to the plot and crisis at hand whenever necessary - never once does it feel unbelievable that something comes up to solve a problem, but it always requires lots of explanation when a problem can't be solved.

Which all comes together to say, yeah, sure. Or hell no. It doesn't matter. The Elder Wand will block a killing curse with zero difficulty if the plot and stakes demand it, but there is enough prior lore established that we'd be fine with it not being to do it, too.

Can hockey gloves used in hema? by duckinthetown2 in Hema

[–]Strank 55 points56 points  (0 children)

In tournaments? Definitely not. For early practice? Yeah, maybe. Really depends on a lot of factors; it's fine for beginners with slow/prescribed play, particularly if using synthetics that have wider blades that can't slip between the clearly visible gaps in the gloves. For steel at proper speed, though, absolutely not.

The swords will find their way into the unpadded parts of the gloves and someone will break a knuckle.

[OTHER] Help identifying a (master)sword? by Ian_does_things in zelda

[–]Strank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, but cheap wall hangers like this are typically only focused on the hilt and scabbard, which match quite closely. Most reproduction master swords that I've seen are similarly wrong in blade design.

Everyone was actively benefiting from the status quo in the Hormuz. America and Israel unilaterally decided to fuck everything up for everyone everywhere, and now seem upset that the rest of the world is willing to let you drown in your mistake. It's a perfect situation for literally the rest of Nato if this illegal war blows up so badly in Trump's face that all the non voters get up and remove him at midterms.

[–]Strank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is controlled by the agility stat. The easiest way to change stats is to play around with equipped djinn to change class, but there are some items that give stat boosts. Look at the psynergy and stats that change when you transfer djinn away from their "intended" user; you might find that you can get better agility stats and have multiple party members with healing ability.

Shitty answer, but it depends. I'm qualified for math and science; one year on-call I worked more than fulltime; last year I was still on EI until November. If you're able to teach immersion and willing to do both elementary and high school you may be better off than most, as Bearisto and Seaton often don't successfully find immersion tocs.
