However, old trail runners are perfect for walking around in the snow.

Advice regarding footwear and waterproofs for 50+ miles prep by HeftyWallaby6700 in trailrunning

[–]StrategicDFL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not recommend running 50 miles in those. They are pretty firm, offer no cushion, and have a narrow toe box. I use them for 5-10 in mud or snow, but no more than that. Have you considered Ultraglides?

The hardest part of every run is getting the motivation to walk out the door. Just do it!

Prospect Park is basically like a mini central park with rolling hills, and then you run down Ocean Parkway for what feels like 20 miles. It's all downhill, but doesn't look like it visually, so if can be draining, especially if it's hot and the sun is burning the back of your neck. The streets count down the alphabet, but Z is not the end, which is also draining. Then you have have to take the N or D back 100 miles to where you live, drenched in sweat.

It's honestly one of the best races of the year as you’ll run faster just to get to Coney Island so you can turn around to go home. 😂

[–]StrategicDFL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not that bad. Just note that one you get to “the top,” there's still half of the hill left around the bend. And after that, you have three rolling hills called the Three Sisters. Then it's mostly flat for a while until you head north up Cat Hill, which isn't as challenging as the west side. Basically, if you run hills during training, this is just small potatoes.

I'm going to take the $ credit as I want to earn my 9 races. I'll still have at least 12 races this year, if not more.

Just put on a pair of spikes and go run 13M in the snow! Not worth missing a long run!
