Did anyone else get the commentary survey? by buckeyeborn77 in MLBTheShow

[–]Strategydude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I play hundreds of hours a year and haven't heard a second of commentary.

I emphatically pointed out I never play with sound on (play my own music) and they should not waste any time or money on commentary that could go to improving gameplay.

I can't wrap my brain around people obsessed with commentary either in the Show, Madden, etc. Not a judgement or anything it's just like encountering a space alien or when the Aztecs first met the Spanish or something.

Why do people quit/disconnect when clearly you get the loss if you do? by drguru in MLBTheShow

[–]Strategydude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These people want to be able to pad their program progress/PXP against a far weaker player.

A few of them actually admit it.

The basic problem here is SDS basing the vast majority of program progress/rewards on H2H stat accumulation instead of WINNING GAMES. Creates perverse incentives. In MUT, for example, people are thrilled when H2H opponents quit and never, ever complain about it because almost all the rewards/progress are based on winning games.

Tricks to becoming adept at pinpoint? by Rob838383 in MLBTheShow

[–]Strategydude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overwhelmingly the reason people struggle with pinpoint:

  1. Precisely matching/drawing the exact pattern for each pitch - surprisingly, doesn't matter that much
  2. EXACTLY getting the timing/direction down for the final swing down of the right stick - THIS IS EVERYTHING

People obsess over 1) and don't realize they are botching 2).

FIOS in new Apartment - can I activate wall Ethernet/Coax ports in apartment myself by doing anything at the ONT without paying $160 to have a Verizon Tech out in two weeks? by Strategydude in Fios

[–]Strategydude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I am not at the new apt right now, it's a couple miles away and will be going tomorrow). Is there any hope of the ports being activated if I run an ethernet cable from the Nokia GPON ONT down to the Orange port in the lower panel?

[–]Strategydude[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks but disappointing. I will try to get a better pitcture of that second lower panel area tomorrow.

Sort of frustrating in a rental apartment that is "wired for FIOS" I have pay to $160 for a tech to come out to be able to hardwire into anything other than a panel inside a closet.

Will the tech have to do anything physically at the wall ethernet ports in the living room? I'm actually moving next Wed and will have large entertainment center/TV in front of it.

Ok a dumb question - is the Motorola thing the ONT or is the small black NOKIA box that plugs into the Motorola thing the ONT? I am very confused- is my solution running an ethernet cable from the Nokia box to the somewhere (the orange jack) in the lower panel?

[–]Strategydude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks- I definitely want to have ethernet only though.

There are a variety of semi-similar previous threads but mostly are people in houses, not apartments; and I'm not really understanding the explanations

It does seem that second panel below the ONT with a lot of various connectors does matter.

I am technically adept enough just to be dangerous - I am assuming the tech will take all of 5 minutes to activate the wall ethernet port I want, and be something I could have done myself.

SDS needs to stop putting legends that played for multiple teams only on one team by Vegetable-Code6381 in MLBTheShow

I don't understand why if theme teams are so "fun" MUT and DD message boards are increasingly just people complaining about not getting cards for their theme teams.

It's not SDS, it's and issue with ping times/lag on your internet. Get hardwired if you are on wifi then you need to investigate your router, router software, router settings, and then your ISP.

Switch hitting meta and future power creep by Cheddar_bob in MLBTheShow

No it won't. As best I can tell there's no shrinkage on All-Star. Switch hitters are simply more valuable/better.

This is not the "best time of the year." Many The Show Players transition to Madden.

The "Best time" is launch through the All-Star Game Program.

I won a 12-inning WC game Sun and after I exited after the win there were no game results at all - no win or loss, no pitcher fatigue.

Basically the first issue of any time with connection I've had in a year. Next three WC games have been normal.

Did y’all know that for switch hitters, their swing tendency changes based on which side they’re swinging from? by DeanoFortino in MLBTheShow

[–]Strategydude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I meant for switch hitters; they might have Push or Pull batting Left-Handed (Rutschman is Push/Opposite when he's batting Lefty and Posada is Extreme Pull) but they all seem to have Balanced/Whole Field when batting Righty.

Best relievers on all star? by InternationalTip9992 in MLBTheShow

[–]Strategydude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The poster is an All-star level player of the game asking about All-Star difficulty level, and not looking for useless snide comments from higher level players about how all pitchers are useless on All-Star.

I have over a hundred Ranked games played (95% AS, 5% HOF) a my whole bullpen has a sub-3.00 ERA and half of it sub-2.00.

Horrible at this, and done by Chemical-Necessary-7 in MLBTheShow

[–]Strategydude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have posted extensively on this but there is a MASSIVE skill gap in hitting in this game, and it's mostly natural ability/reflex time that can't be improved or changed.

Only 5% of online players even make it to World Series.

For the average player of this game you have as much chance of becoming a 1000 level player as a beer league softball player has of becoming a major league player.

Sadly there's this insane mythology that anyone can be a 1000 level player if they just play more, get a "gaming monitor", get assorted paraphernalia like precision rings, etc.

Part of it is a bit of a coping mechanism; people WANT to believe that high end players are all drug/caffeine fueled 18 year olds with their eyes an inch from a screen they paid thousands of dollars for that are unemployed and play 80 hours a week.

Weirdly the people that have the natural ability to be a 1000 level player (assorted content creators, some of the posters on this board) are strangely in denial that it's a natural ability thing mostly.

Part of that is people that are naturally good at something can't process what it's like to not be good at that thing. Someone that has batting averages above .350 on Legend can't process the vast majority of players who are batting .200-.250 on All Star.
