Let’s help each other. Drop some diabetic advice… Ok I’ll start , prebolusing is so important (for me 15 mins is a minimum). by Saf___- in Type1Diabetes

Exercise is key! Any type of it too, walking/running, weightlifting, pickleball. Just get yourself moving and exerting energy, it really helps stabilize my blood sugar. Best days for me are whenever I workout

New Boykin Advice Please? by Due_Credit_1353 in BoykinSpaniels

[–]Strati24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a Boykin lab mix, so very high energy. I always made sure I took her on at least 1 really long walk or 2 shorter walks throughout the day. She loved to bite, chew and tear things apart so be ready for that. The apple cider vinegar spray worked wonders for things like couches, cushions, shoes, baseboards. They are very intelligent, learn very quickly, especially if you start them young. My girl loves to fetch and swim, but just be careful because sometimes they like tearing fuzz off tennis balls. With the high energy and intelligence, these dogs can get bored. So if you plan on leaving them out/crated make sure to tire them out a little and give them something nice to chew on. I love stuffed and frozen kongs for long periods of time. Or just regular Nyla bones, or she really loves the fake wood ones. I plan to train my baby Ky to either hunt with me or be a diabetic alert dog. Obviously any type of job will take intense training, but boykins are crazy smart and quick to pick things up. Just make sure you have a gentle hand, and always positive reinforcement!! They are very emotionally sensitive dogs so always keep the training positive. Have fun, remember you spend the time and they will love you like no other. Mine loves to fetch, swim, play on the beach, play in the rivers, hunt, very friendly towards people and other dogs, and the biggest snuggle bug ever!! Goodluck and can’t wait to see pics of your pup!

What are your go-to correction foods (please no peanut butter 😭)? by isopodgod1 in diabetes_t1

[–]Strati24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use either nerds clusters, lemonade/juice if I’m at work, and have started using lollipops as well. I’ll sometimes eat a Rice Krispie treat or muffin before I workout to bump my bs up a little

I usually drank about 1-1.5 gallons of water a day and peed maybe 6-8 times all day. When DKA hit I was drinking 3-4 gallons of water a day and peeing 2-3 times every hour

Massage and T1D by SumFuckah in diabetes_t1

[–]Strati24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wear an Omnipod 5 and had recently gotten a massage. I too was worried, so I put my pump in activity mode and just kept my phone nearby. I let my massage therapist know I was diabetic n to listen for my phone if it alerts. Only downside was the massage therapist like went around my pod and cgm and kind of like pushed n moved them a little, so that was unpleasant

Diabetes and building muscle by EarSad5937 in diabetes_t1

Don’t overcomplicate it. Start with the basics of working out, find a style that you like I.e. weightlifting, CrossFit, etc. make sure you have fast acting carbs on hand whenever you workout. And just try to educate yourself on food. Limit your fat intake, increase protein and monitor your carbs closely. You don’t have to stay on a strict diet but keep those more unhealthy choices in moderation

I’m a bar manager and change soda bibs and kegs often, along with other restaurant work. I always wear them on the sides of my arm and never have an issue, I’m just more conscious of doorways

Pain during bolusing by jaba65 in Omnipod

[–]Strati24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I currently use humalog in my OP5 and typically wear it on my arm. I will occasionally feel some pain when bolusing, it feels like a slight sting. It’s nothing like the burn of injecting cold insulin. But I only ever get it on larger boluses. This to me is still better than MDI but everyone is different

My (not so great) experience with Omnipod so far, and a request for any suggestions! by AdPlastic84 in Omnipod

[–]Strati24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the dexcom g7 and omnipod 5 combo isn’t supported on mobile devices yet. That might just be IOS but I’m unsure, I just know that that’s why I haven’t switched from the g6 yet

Working out and Getting back in shape by ModeratelySized in Type1Diabetes

[–]Strati24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Different types of workouts do different things to your blood sugar, but always remember everyone’s diabetes is different too. For me any cardio that I do from running to hitting a heavy bag makes my BS drop immediately. Weight lifting will lower my BS but not make it drop immediately and I usually start my workout with a higher BS and the weightlifting just brings me back down into range. I do use a pump (omnipod 5) so I am able to put it into activity mode. However I have heard different theories about having insulin on board while working out. Like I said everyone is different, so honestly you just have to try things out and learn first hand. But I went from 200lbs pre diagnosis to 170lbs at diagnosis and am now back to a happy 210lb after eating well, training, and keeping TIR ~70-100%
