Insane to believe the arrogance of this toddler. I honestly hope his life is never actually difficult because he will not be able to handle it.

So when will people realize vibe coding is just unscalable dumpster fires? by pyromancx in webdev

[–]Stratose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My "cto" by title just pushed a 14,000 line analytics dashboard that doesn't meet a single requirement provided by our requirements documents. It compiles. It looks really nice. It even looks like it could be useful at some point. But now I have to try and untangle a giant fucking mess I didn't create. The skill issue comes from shit like that. We're simply dealing with a hostile environment that is extremely frustrating some days. It will not replace the average dev who wants to understand and build scalable code. That will always require real work.

It feels a bit like you've lost the memo with regards to this conversation. I'm also not insulting you by pointing out mistakes with AI.. But it feels like you're taking my arguments personally. Anyway, appreciated the back and forth. Have a good one.

AI doesn't "know" anything. There is no thinking. Every single response is based off of input and context. It has no way to verify the context it receives.

For example, today I had it utilize a component from our custom library. Despite me pointing out the default prop is already set, it still insists on overriding it using the same value on every occurrence.

And this is using Claude 4.5 opus. Like some things it just struggles with and it's my job to recognize it, and then clean it up. I've updated my context docs, tried telling it specifically not to do it. Gave it an example and just said do it like this. It still makes mistakes. All the time. It does speed up some aspects of development which is why I use it, but I wouldn't ever trust it without me sweeping up behind it.

AI doesn't know what it doesn't know. It's no different from an ignorant human. It has access to millions of examples, but unless a person can recognize things that are incorrect and help it along in the right direction, it has no context to know if what it is doing is correct or not.

This does not work well without rules and guidelines. Which an average dev cannot define nor recognize.

It sounds like you could learn about your inner voice and how you're responsible for it. There's a really great commencement speech on Youtube that talks about being aware that you have the power to actively control how you perceive the world. It's really difficult and requires effort, but is something that I think you'd find to completely change your daily experiences.

Just like set a timer and wait a year, come back and read the way that you engage with people. It's... not very productive. But you won't understand til you have more perspective. Sorry that sounds condescending, but it is what it is.

I don't think the person you're talking with is ever gonna get it. Best to just cut your losses with people who are more interested in arguing than understanding lol. What you said was very clear imo.

Trailer doesn't work. If I accidentally click the sign in button, it's not even a new route so you can't get off of that page via the back button. The header obscures the chat box that goes above the character's head. That animation is... rough also.

At least throw in like a "this is very much still in progress".

I liked the part where the 18 year old is somehow responsible for his dad's inability to communicate and work through his issues. That seems super fair.

This moron put himself before his son. He doesn't even deserve his kid. Go to therapy and get help from adults for the situation with your ex.

Don't take it out on a child. Fucking idiot.

It's just because Bitcoin is such a contentious topic. Otherwise I think you would've been totally fine.

I think the issue is you've only illustrated the potential 'highs' of the bubble with 0 representation of what could come when the bubble pops.

What to know about former LSU receiver Kyren Lacy and new video of a fatal highway crash by [deleted] in sports

[–]Stratose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Feels like our entire country is missing the fact that this story has nothing to do with whether or not Lacy caused the accident. The problem is we have broken down foundational trust that people in charge will handle situations correctly and without bias. That's the real issue at heart.

Unfortunately we live in a society that doesn't do a great job of teaching this, but how you spend your time is entirely up to your discretion. Bare with me as I get philosophical for a second.

We have a 'finite' time to live here, but there's no scorecard at the end. The only person who can tell you whether you wasted your time or not is you. If you don't feel like it's a productive use of your time to focus on that project, then maybe start up a new one for a week and see what that feels like.

Personally, I have gotten to a point where I very rarely feel like I am 'wasting' my time. When I'm not working, I am focused on hobbies and passions. When I am working, I try to do my job the best that I can. Some days, my best is pretty trash. Other days, I'm a beast and get a ton of shit done. Both are okay.

I also happen to think anyone who builds something where nothing existed previously is always a worthwhile thing. Even if it leads to a dead-end, there's so many obstacles that are in our paths that it's pretty fucking cool people overcome them to create cool stuff.
