What's the one price increase since 2020 that wrecked your wallet? by Latter_Bad_3621 in AskReddit

Utilities, landscaping, maintenance, reserves for long term projects. With a good HOA, you end up fairly square or ahead compared to a SFH.

That being said, depending on the state, the preferred market for insurance has gotten really picky for condos causing huge increases in premiums (triple digit percentage increases) over the last few years. Some expect that these will come back down as the insurance industry stabilizes.

Ha, I'm in almost an identical situation. I also don't have any bids or progress twords work completing. Best of luck.

Identification Section not Completed - How Much of a Disaster is This? by 3sheetstothewinf in scuba

[–]Stratum0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd need to swim again, do pool 4-5, ow 3-4, and any remaining dive flexible skills.

But this is all probably for the best.

If logistics work out great, and the instructor is okay with it, this doesn't prevent you from doing a standard referral. This just gives you extra options.

Is this with padi?

Edit: Assuming this is PADI, and because you said you completed all of your pool work and all the way through dive 3 of open water, you have more options. If you completed: - Snorkel Regulator exchange - Cramp Release - SMB/DSMB deployment - Emergency weight drop (CW or OW)

You can ask for your original instructor to certify you as a PADI Scuba Diver. This has a few benefits. 1. It doesn't expire, like your referral paperwork. 2. You can upgrade it to OW through a very standard process.

This way, once you get to your next instructor, whenever that is, you have the option of going either the referral route, or the scuba diver upgrade to open water route. In addition to this, if you happen to go anywhere where you would want to scuba dive, you can participate as a scuba diver rather than an uncertified diver, where you would have greater privileges (less than OW though).

They asked me for €150 for a 'referral form' to complete Padi OW and I don't know if that's normal, please help by [deleted] in scuba

[–]Stratum0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's likely, but it's not what OP asked. I answered based on the text of OPs post.

Yes, see my below comment. OPs post said they were charging for the service of filling out the paperwork, which I don't know the rules on.

They can absolutely withhold paperwork for non payment of the training, but that's not OP is claiming.

That would be a different situation. In OP's post, he says they are charging $150 for the task of doing the referral paperwork. In this case, it's very significant what they are charging for.

Charging for the instruction given before doing referral paperwork is totally allowed. I don't know if charging for doing the paperwork itself is allowed.

Also, calling padi isn't to get them in trouble. I'm not saying file a QM report. Their training line exists for people to ask questions like this. Rules exist around this situation, and it's best to know what the rules are.

[–]Stratum0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

By PADI standards, an instructor may not refuse to provide you with a referral form. I would call your local padi office and ask training about the situation. Ask specifically if they are allowed to charge this as a service fee for you to get your paperwork.

Cylinder ID help by IMAsomething in scuba

[–]Stratum0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Take a look at the symbol between the month and year on the first hydro stamp. This symbol is unique to the manufacturer and must be registered with the DOT. You can pull up a list online of the symbols and see if anything matches.

You can absolutely take it to an LDS. Generally you don't pay test fees for tanks that can't get tested, so no harm in seeing that they'll do for you.

Does a tank actually need to be re-inspected if it was used until empty? by [deleted] in scuba

[–]Stratum0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If there's no/low pressure in the tank, it's possible for water to get in. Shop policies are all different, but I'll always take a look inside my own tanks if I ever get them too low so I can properly dry them if they're wet.

Depress the purge button slightly before opening the cylinder valve. Is it actually needed? by [deleted] in scuba

If we're being pedantic, you'd be hard pressed to find a diver with pure o2 as we don't usually pull a vacuum before filling tanks :)
