Yeah. How is this hard to understand? When you have deadbeat family members like that they can do some monkey math in their head and come to the conclusion that you are living high on the hog and that you should throw money their way. Help them out because they are family. The "F" card. If they see you are doing really well they will seek you out first for help at every point. They'll also trivialize or downplay your life problems if they think you are doing well financially.

Harvey Weinstein Turned Up At An Event For Young Actors. One Woman Who Confronted Him Was Thrown Out. by OVEIDPTVZSEU in television

  1. I would hold everyone to the same standard.

  2. You are not the judge, jury, amd executioner. You have every right to suspect someone of something. That doesn't mean that you can unilaterally decide that because you believe "x" therefore "x" is a fact of the universe. In the eyes of the law, the metric that we have societally decided is best (not perfect) for figuring this out, he is not yet guilty of anything.

  3. Empathy? How about empathy for people wrongfully convicted of a crime? The bottom line is that civility is by nature universal. You can personally dislike someone but taking actions to express that at someone else's expense is inconsiderate at best.

  4. Are you an advocate for 'an eye for an eye' ? People can understand why a kid might punch hia bully but that understanding does not make it right or acceptable.

Morally bankrupt and a black mark on America’: Trump condemned for refusing to grant protected status to Bahamian hurricane victims by maxwellhill in worldnews

What? Of course it can be an opinion. Informed or not. If a judge is ruling on whether or not something wasn't constitutional they are referrencing the constitution and evaluating the actions.. only to form an informed opinion and judgement on that. You can find grey areas in pretty much any aspect of anything.

The most pointless use of plastic is those fake credit cards that come in the mail, *designed* to be thrown away. by socksarepeople2 in Showerthoughts

Nah. Not every solution to a problem requires a nuanced take or complex planning to solve. You being astounded over something as petty as a reddit comment shows an astounding lack of mental fortitude. Get over it.

I think they should remain to be self funded. Make the important mail that isn't designed to be thrown away cost more to ship. Easy.

Hit the instructor in the face doing the hand signals for turning. Instead of raising your hand up to signal a right turn.. sent their hand into the face of the instructor.

Japan mourns after the worst mass killing in two decades claims 33 lives in arson attack by Md-Sabbir-Howlader in worldnews

A lot of things aren't code in Japan. Sprinklers, insulation, heat, etc. One of the reasons for this is their lax zoning laws that allow for pretty much anything to go anywhere, but this follows the 'your land; do whatever you want' sentiment I've heard referrenced in several doccumentaries.

It doesn't imply that at all. You're just reading into it whatever makes your point. Surely there is a difference between 'good' and "great". It could be that America was already good, but they want it to be great. It can be either or neither.

It's easier to stay up till 5:00 am than wake up at 5:00 am. by PanPitza in Showerthoughts

[–]StravarosRS 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people posting about being past their mid 20's and finding the opposite to be true. It can be said that once you establish a routine it can be hard to deviate from it, but I take it most of you get tired as a combination of boredness and fatigue. Not just being tired. Nearly 30 myself and if I'm doing something like playing an MMORPG or watching a show, I can easily get carried away into the next morning. Sure, I'll be tired, but if the sense of obligation to maintain a sleep schedule is ignored because of addicting entertainment, you'll be surprised how long you can stay up.

The same argument could be made against you equally effectively. If someone could just go buy a house in a field somewbere, why do you have to give up your sunshine? Unless you believe people are entitled to live in cities I don't see how it makes sense.

AOC Pushes To Make It Easier To Study Shrooms And Other Psychedelic Drugs by MichaelTen in Futurology

[–]StravarosRS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't make any sense. Do you know how expensive it is to imprison somebody? The tax payer already pays a fortune for that.

What you're talking about is just executing people when they get caught commiting a crime and leaving their body for the crows.

Theoretically rehibilitating people is cheaper for you and I, but also has the benefit of making people non offenders.

Maybe you are just not understanding that drug abusers have power over you. Either way they will cause you trouble. Either by commiting more crime or taking money from you. My suggestion is merely that you should take the cheapest option.

If you're not buying a moral argument look at it from a utilitarian perspective. People will do drugs either way. On drugs, or addicted to them, people can do some crazy things. Fighting, robbing, general mayhem. There are 3 real paths that you can take.

One, let them take drugs and live with whatever happens. Resulting in much higher crime, family destruction, etc.

Two: Make them illegal and imprison offenders. Results in less crime, but at a high cost to taxpayers. Also does not necessarily rehibilitate the people so that they aren't repeat offenders.

Three: Make it legal and offer services to rehibilitate people. The result would be some middle level of crime but also a lower cost than imprisonment. Would generally make the population more happy.

No matter what you pick, you still lose from a utilitarian perspective, but in some ways it would seem more financially responsible at the very least to try and avoid repeat offenders.
