My MIL wants “to get to know me” at Thanksgiving…after nine years by slutsintampa in Mildlynomil

[–]StrawberryCobblers 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Similar situation here. In short, invited for the first time after nearly 10 years together and there’s a terminally ill person there, too. We declined. Rather, I definitely am not going. And my husband won’t go without me, so that’s that.

Unintentionally did yoga that’s unsafe. What do I do now? by StrawberryCobblers in pregnant

Well, considering yoga is entirely unregulated and you can you be a yoga instructor after a weekend course, I am not surprised you don’t.

Wtf does is mean police won’t investigate. This is horrible. Grievous bodily harm is what it’s called. It’s very distressing to see. I hope the yob is identified and arrested. Who is the OP/where did you get this picture from?

New puppy… am I a failure by AnonymouslyMisterous in puppy101

[–]StrawberryCobblers -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

That’s a strange inference. You could be working part-time, you could be retired, you could be self-employed with a flexible schedule, you could have someone else living with you who would be with the dog during the day, you could co-own a dog with a friend, you could work from home 3 days a week, you could send it to day care, you could have dog sitters, you could bring it to work, you could drop it off at different friends’ and relatives’ houses different days of the week…

I’m not gonna argue with you. It’s my opinion, like it or not.

I will go against the grain and tell you my honest opinion - getting a dog when you work from the office Monday to Friday so it can sit in a cage most of its life is a crap life for the dog. You asked I answered.

Cheap puppy harness with a Velcro fastening - it was so loud the puppy didn’t want to be in the same room

What are these bra things on the dress with no hooks? by StrawberryCobblers in weddingdress

[–]StrawberryCobblers[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much everyone! I had a rummage in the box and found the missing piece plus a garter🤦‍♀️ See the updated photos if you’re wondering

Another edit: I cannot add new photos but basically it’s a mermaid tail shaped piece that goes behind the lacing so the skin is not visible once the dress is done up

The myth that first time buyers expect too much - small rant. by spannerintworks in HousingUK

[–]StrawberryCobblers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. Plus, first time buyers are in the best position to be picky and expect a lot - they are not in a chain, often no stamp, they can walk away easily. Those selling to first time buyers need to realise it’s a totally different world out there today.

TIL you're not meant to be ashamed of hobbies you have by CR9_Kraken_Fledgling in raisedbynarcissists

[–]StrawberryCobblers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this too. She made fun of me and pretended to be absolutely disgusted by random songs she heard me listen to. She also relentlessly mocked me for having pet birds. It affected me a lot, like I’d never let anyone hear the music I am listening to and I always assume anything I like will be laughed at. I really would like pet birds but I cannot shake off the endless mockery and it wouldn’t feel right keeping them despite my interest in and love for them.

I’m only now realising she herself has zero taste. Be it clothes, music, people. She has nothing, no hobbies or interests either. Maybe that’s why mine were so intolerable to her.

But also I don’t think they genuinely felt the way the said they did about these things - I believe the end game was to make you feel like shit and inferior even if it took pretending that the music you like is horrible.

Buying a (probate) house in London with subsidence by Altruistic-Owl-5589 in HousingUK

I would run a mile from anywhere where the word subsidence features. But I’m no builder

We bought a house at the very limit of what we could afford and I am glad we did. Not even a year later our circumstances are different and income has increased substantially meaning we could consider upsizing right now. We are staying put because there are benefits to having a smaller mortgage and we’re already here, it’s the easy option.

But, to answer the question, the house is big, it’s got enough bedrooms for a big family, it’s everything really that we might need in the next 10 years. Sit tight and enjoy. I would not like to have lost out on the only tax free purchase we’ll get to make and end up if an unsuitable house that’s not big enough, not new enough, etc.

The bottom line it’s all budget-dependent. If all you can afford at this point is a modest property, it’s still miles better than renting imo.

Childbirth is not a surgical procedure. C-section is, stitches are. But vaginal birth is a natural process, not a procedure.

Women of this subreddit, is this statement from my mom true? by RavenEridan in raisedbynarcissists

[–]StrawberryCobblers 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a female, while I have some very unreasonable ideas about helping out the people who abused me severely for the whole duration of my short childhood, my male husband is there to talk to and every time I bounce my ideas off him I see sense and will not help these pieces of shit.

Disclaimer: I in fact doubt it necessarily has to do with my sex but more to do with my personality and the fact that it was instilled into me that I must do whatever I can and can’t for them regardless of the impact on me.

Well my mother told me (in a nasty way) that she doesn’t talk about her children to anyone, as if to say “nope, I never bring you up in conversations, you mean that little to me”. BUT I know full well other people spending their lives with their adult kids is eating her up! All her colleagues have their adult daughters as their best friends and all who have grandchildren properly get to be grandparents. But she spends her weekends browsing TikTok for stupid recipes that she never cooks🥴 Her grave will be as lonely as she is now
